ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE DE VANCOUVER

BROCHURE 2011-2012

WHAT IS THE ALLIANCE FRANCAISE? A Worldwide Network of over 1200 independently run committees established in 138 countries. Alliance Française is the first cultural network in the world. From Brazil to China (where Alliance is established in already 15 cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Canton, Dalian, Tianjin, Jinan, Qingdao, Xian, Nanking, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Macao and Hong Kong), and Taiwan, India, Russia and USA, Alliance Française counts each year more than 450,000 students. In Canada: From Vancouver to Halifax, more than 9,000 students per year attend courses in our schools. In Vancouver: The Alliance Francaise of Vancouver has been actively promoting interest in the French language and culture since 1904. We are a non-profit cultural and educational association managed by a board of directors elected by its members. It is our goal to foster the appreciation of French culture through cultural events and to encourage the study of the French language. OUR MISSIONS - To offer French courses to all audiences - To raise awareness of French and French-speaking world cultures, in all of their dimensions - To promote cultural diversity by highlighting all cultures WHY LEARNING FRENCH? To start learning French at an early age is a wise choice, either to prepare admission to the high quality immersion program, or to obtain French credits more easily and then prepare and facilitate the admission to the best universities in the country and abroad. The French language provides tools to function in social and professional life, as Canada’s official language and access to government jobs and public service. Fluency in French is essential to advance in your career or in the government. French is important for a good international projection: whether in Europe, where French is spoken in Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and France, where it is a working language in the European Union, it is also the second language most studied in school after English in Africa, land of opportunity where it is the most common vernacular language, after English. French is important in the Middle East, Lebanon, or even in many in-

At Alliance Franรงaise, we are specialized in children classes. We prepare kids to follow French programs, to acquire the basis for entering the best programs, and to progress steadily. We also propose those classes to prepare the A1 diploma that can be passed after 2 years of French at our school. For that purpose, we use Ludo et ses amis, editions Didier, a textbook with a playful approach which allows the development of communicative skills. This method is thought out to catch the attention of children and fits their needs, concentrate on oral expression via the active listening, and allow the children to write in French whenever they have acquired written skills in their first language.
