VidyaGyan Students Secured A Place
In The Top 15 Of The KRUU Program

Access to education is a fundamental right for all children, yet marginalized and at-risk children often face barriers to learning. Education plays a critical role in breaking the cycle of poverty, providing opportunities for marginalized children to escape deprivation and gain the skills and knowledge necessary for social and economic mobility. At-risk children, including those living in poverty, facing discrimination, or experiencing violence or exploitation, require additional support to thrive. Education can offer a safe and nurturing environment, equip children with essential life skills, and promote social inclusion, helping them grow and reach their full potential.
This is why VidyaGyan was established in 2009 by the Shiv Nadar Foundation. VidyaGyan is a unique Indian Leadership Academy that aims to recognize and cultivate talented students from economically disadvantaged rural areas in Uttar Pradesh and
empower them to become the next generation of leaders through exceptional education.
In January 2023, some of the VidyaGyan students joined 207,000 of their peers from top schools across India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and the Middle East to participate in KRUU. KRUU serves as a global platform for cultivating creative intelligence through project-based learning. By connecting young learners in South Asia with esteemed university professors, research scientists, and corporate icons from around the world, KRUU encourages students to learn by doing.
The projects assigned to the students were particularly challenging and focused on addressing social problems and community-based solutions. This year’s projects involved designing a communications policy and strategy for adult vaccinations, inspired by a lecture from Dr. Premila Webster, Dean of Public Health at Oxford University, as
well as creating a local “history of geography” map or application to encourage the power of local narratives, presented by professors from Krea and Ashoka University.
After attending lectures from these esteemed professors, the students were divided into groups and given detailed project briefs to work on. Their final submissions were then assessed using rubrics set by the professors, with final-year students from prestigious universities serving as assessors under the guidance of the professors themselves.
VidyaGyan students surpassed expectations and earned a place in the top 15 among the 480+ schools in the region, outperforming many of their peers from established institutions. Their projects were deemed among the best in the region. This is surely a commendable milestone for VidyaGyan and its management, which constantly strives to provide top-notch resources to its
high-potential students, including a school with hostel facilities.
The students residing there are given life skills’ training, leadership development, the study of ethics, and social and environmental sensitivity, among others.
