President's Message
December
Dear Fellow Members,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Lynne and I loved having our three children home—it gets harder as they grow busier. Connections with family and friends are so important, and our club strives to make them easier. Whether spending time on the golf course, the courts, or enjoying a drink or dinner, Vicmead's intimate size brings us together. It's a place where we know one another and appreciate that our club is truly unique in today’s world.
Our membership wants to expand these opportunities for social connections, as voiced in surveys, interviews, conversations, and emails over the past few years. We all love being together, getting a bite at the Bidermann bunker, going to St. Nick at the Vic, or playing the sports we love, surrounded by friends and family.
You've requested improved casual dining and a pub to enhance these social interactions. We’ve asked for a casual place we all look forward to—eating, enjoying a drink, or watching the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, Flyers (and some of us the Buckeyes), surrounded by friends and family. A place that feels great whether we come alone or with a group, compelling with cozy fireplaces and intimate spaces, purposefully designed to draw us together without changing Vicmead's laid-back, country-casual atmosphere. We want a place we're proud to bring friends, where we choose to be, continuing to be the club of choice for those who value Vicmead's intimate setting.
With this in mind, the Development Ad-Hoc Committee has worked tirelessly to develop a fiscally and operationally responsible plan that fulfills the membership's requests. Tours and articles have showcased the kitchen’s challenges and infrastructure needs. The committee is refining a plan that addresses these concerns and allows the Club to scale services
and offer an expanded, consistent dining schedule as usage grows. Comprised of industry professionals, we're beyond lucky to have dedicated members focused on a project so important to our club's future.
We've seen how investments strengthen our club's position. Not too long ago, attracting members to Bidermann was challenging. Golf membership was down, tournaments barely met minimum players, and everyone complained about limited opportunities for friendly play due to low course utilization. After developing a master plan and investing in infrastructure and member-facing spaces, the results are astounding. The course is in spectacular condition, tournaments fill up annually, the initiation fee has increased, and people are willing to join while waiting to become golf members. These results occurred before COVID and have continued. We expect the proposed project will deliver similar results by increasing utilization and energy at the Vicmead Clubhouse.
As we enjoy holiday gatherings over the next month, let's remember how important these interactions are and how great it would be to have more throughout the year. Vicmead is our home away from home—a place where members truly know and are friends with each other. In the new year, the Development Ad-Hoc Committee will present the proposed project along with the Board of Governors' funding presentation. We hope to announce the exact date soon. These are exciting times at Vicmead!
Warm regards,
David Solacoff, M.D. President

The registration window for Derby Day, the H.F. du Pont, and the Weymouth Cup will be open for seven days. If the events are sold out after seven days, a lottery will be held. Lottery details, including registration windows, field sizes, etc., will be released via the weekly email. Please keep your eyes peeled for a brief video in the weekly golf email reviewing registration windows and the lottery process for events.
On behalf of our team, we hope you and your loved ones have a healthy and memorable holiday season!
