Corner Cafe

1-Storey Commercial Project

During my time at Sim Ateliers, I had the opportunity to contribute to the design of the Corner Cafe, a renovation project located in Quezon City. Our primary goal was to modernize the building and create an inviting space that would attract customers and increase sales for the owner. With a focus on creating visually appealing and Instagrammable interiors, we aimed to make the cafe more lively and engaging.

One of our key design elements was the marbled counter that extended from the cafe’s interior towards the take-out area, seamlessly connecting the two spaces. This functional feature not only enhanced the customer experience but also added visual interest and a sense of continuity throughout the cafe. Additionally, we incorporated fluted panels as accents, creating a dynamic and modern aesthetic that made the space visually captivating.

Throughout the project, I worked closely with the team, collaborating on the conceptualization, planning, and execution phases. We took into consideration the existing architectural elements, such as the cylindrical facade that was previously used as an interior storage room, and integrated them harmoniously with the new design elements. By combining contemporary design elements with the original features of the building, we achieved a cohesive and visually striking result.

My role in this project involved assisting in the design development, creating 3D visualizations, producing detailed drawings, and collaborating with various stakeholders. I take great pride in being part of the team that successfully transformed the Corner Cafe into a modern and visually appealing space. It now stands as an inviting destination that attracts customers and provides them with a memorable experience.

Bridging Nature and Architecture

The Orchard Dasmarinas Residence is a captivating architectural project that perfectly balances grandeur and integration with nature. Designed to meet the clients’ desire for a sense of magnificence within their home, this one-story residential showcases a soaring interior main space, reaching an impressive height of 4.5 meters.

The interior space was meticulously crafted to evoke a feeling of massiveness, offering an expansive and awe-inspiring environment. The generous ceiling height creates an ambiance of openness and freedom, allowing natural light to cascade throughout the space and accentuate its voluminous nature. This emphasis on height enhances the overall visual impact of the residence, providing an exceptional living experience for the homeowners.

In harmony with the surrounding environment, the exterior design of the building harmoniously integrates with the natural landscape and takes advantage of the site’s sloping topography. The elevation of the structure was carefully manipulated to gracefully adapt to the natural contours, resulting in a seamless integration of architecture and nature. The sloping terrain offers a dynamic and visually captivating aspect to the building, while maintaining a strong sense of unity with the surroundings.

10|

Embracing the Essence of Two Trees

An extraordinary element of the project is the inclusion of two large trees that existed on the site before construction. Rather than removing or disregarding these majestic natural features, they were meticulously incorporated into the design as integral parts of the building. These trees serve as prominent focal points, establishing a strong connection between the indoors and the outdoors. By thoughtfully integrating the trees into the architecture, the residence not only embraces its natural surroundings but also celebrates and showcases these unique elements, adding a distinctive touch to the overall design.

The Orchard Dasmarinas Residence stands as a testament to the seamless fusion of grandeur, nature, and thoughtful design. With its soaring interior space, clever elevation play, and harmonious integration of pre-existing trees, this architectural marvel creates an extraordinary living environment that inspires awe and fosters a deep connection with both the indoor and outdoor realms.

Sophisticated Fusion

The Orchard Dasmarinas Residence showcases a remarkable fusion of contemporary elegance and meticulous attention to detail in its perimeter wall and gate design. In line with the client’s vision to maintain a harmonious tone with the main building facade, the design seamlessly integrates stainless steel materials and stone tiles to create a modern and cool aesthetic.

The perimeter wall stands as an essential element of the overall architectural composition, providing security and privacy while contributing to the overall visual appeal of the residence. The stainless steel materials used in the niche design exude a sense of sophistication and durability, offering a sleek and refined appearance that complements the contemporary style of the main building.

Harmonious Integration

To infuse the fence with a modern and cool vibe, stone tiles were thoughtfully incorporated into the design. These tiles add texture and visual interest to the perimeter wall, creating a striking contrast against the stainless steel elements. The carefully selected stone tiles contribute to the overall aesthetic cohesion, enhancing the overall appeal of the residence and making a bold architectural statement.

Warm lights strategically placed along the perimeter wall serve as a captivating contrast to the rough materials, adding a touch of warmth and enhancing the visual impact of the design. These lights create a subtle interplay between light and shadow, further highlighting the textures and features of the wall, while simultaneously providing a sense of security and ambiance during the evening hours.

Project 3

Orchard 2 Project

2-Storey Residential Project

The second project in Orchard Dasmarinas is a testament to our commitment to innovation and meeting the unique desires of our clients. This endeavor began in early 2023, following the successful completion of the first Orchard Dasmarinas project, and presented us with a fresh set of challenges and opportunities to create a truly exceptional living environment.

Inspired by the client’s passion for golf, we embarked on designing a distinctive landscape that seamlessly integrates with the architecture. One of the standout features of this project is the berm, stretching from outside the perimeter walls and extending inside, connecting to an artificial slope that culminates in a breathtaking viewing deck. This carefully crafted topographical element not only adds visual interest but also provides a dynamic and engaging experience for the residents.

Taking advantage of the available space, we transformed the front and side lots into lush, grassy slopes that beautifully blend with the surrounding landscape. At the pinnacle of these slopes, a small golf area was designed, offering a private retreat for the avid golfer in the client. This dedicated space allows the clients to indulge in their passion for golf while enjoying the serene beauty of their surroundings.

To enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and ensure a harmonious integration with nature, we collaborated with a skilled landscape architect who played a vital role in designing the exterior vegetation and landscaping. Their expertise helped create a seamless transition between the built environment and the natural elements, resulting in a visually stunning and cohesive outdoor space.

At the heart of the site, a captivating water feature takes center stage. This planned water feature adds a touch of tranquility and serenity to the landscape, creating a focal point that draws the eye and provides a soothing atmosphere. The interplay between the water, lush greenery, and architectural elements creates a harmonious and inviting ambiance, further enhancing the overall appeal of the residence.

Seamless Integration

This project embraces a two-story design, with a distinctive viewing deck tower that caters to the clients’ desire for an elevated vantage point. The viewing deck tower not only offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings but also houses a bar inside, providing an ideal space for relaxation and entertainment. This architectural element adds a touch of luxury and exclusivity to the residence, elevating the living experience for the clients.

In response to the growing demand for unique accommodation experiences, this project also incorporates guest houses designed specifically for short-term rentals through platforms like Airbnb. These guest houses offer a separate and private space for visitors, providing a comfortable and stylish retreat while generating additional income for the clients.

Embracing Natural Ventilation

To enhance the circulation of fresh air and promote a comfortable living environment, multiple sliding doors have been incorporated into the design. These sliding doors allow for easy access to outdoor areas while facilitating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. By opening these doors, the residents can invite refreshing breezes to flow through the interiors, creating a pleasant and airy atmosphere.

Complementing the sliding doors, clerestory windows have been strategically placed throughout the space. These high-set windows invite an abundance of natural light to flood the interior, creating a bright and welcoming ambiance. The placement of these windows ensures that natural light penetrates deep into the room, eliminating the need for excessive artificial lighting during the day and reducing energy consumption.

Project 4 Acacia Estates Project

Ambassadors Residential Project

The Acacia Estates Project presented a unique challenge as we designed a residential rest house for our distinguished client, an ambassador. Striking the balance between a high-end aesthetic and a design that wasn’t overly modern was crucial. Thus, we embraced a neo-classical approach, infusing timeless elegance into every detail.

One of the client’s passions lay in collecting art, and he desired the residential rest house to accommodate his impressive collection. To meet this request, we integrated private art galleries throughout the main house, providing ample space to showcase his treasured artworks. Each gallery was thoughtfully designed to create an atmosphere that enhances the visual impact of the art pieces, ensuring a harmonious union between the architectural design and the artistic expression.

Elegant Granduer

In addition to the private art galleries within the main house, the client also requested a dedicated museum to display his broader art collection. This connecting museum serves as a separate space, providing a curated setting to appreciate and engage with the wider range of artworks. The design of the museum complements the neo-classical style of the main house, establishing a cohesive and captivating experience for visitors.

To embrace the natural beauty of the surroundings, a long veranda was designed, adjacent to a landscaped area. This outdoor space provides an inviting retreat for residents and guests, allowing them to sit outside and immerse themselves in the picturesque views. The veranda serves as a seamless extension of the interior living areas, creating a harmonious connection between the indoor and outdoor realms.

22|

Timeless Opulence

A pool, positioned adjacent to the family area of the main house, further enhances the luxurious living experience. Connected through the aforementioned veranda, the pool area offers a refreshing oasis where residents can relax, unwind, and enjoy quality time with their loved ones.

The Acacia Estates Project represents the epitome of elegant grandeur, combining a neo-classical design approach with curated art galleries. By integrating private art spaces, connecting museums, a long veranda with captivating views, and a luxurious pool area, we have created a residential rest house that exceeds the client’s expectations. This project stands as a testament to our ability to deliver exceptional designs tailored to our clients’ unique desires and passions.

Project 5 Baguio Residential Project

4-Storey Residential Project

The Baguio Residential Project presents a unique opportunity as we embark on demolishing the existing residential building to construct a new, four-story dwelling. Situated in Baguio, known for its cooler climate compared to the rest of the Philippines, this project required careful consideration of the region’s distinct environmental factors.

The clients expressed a desire for a brutalist architectural style, which posed an interesting challenge in balancing the raw and striking nature of brutalism with a warm and inviting ambiance. Our aim was to create a harmonious fusion of these contrasting elements, resulting in a home that seamlessly blends robustness with a homely atmosphere.

To achieve this balance, we incorporated concrete textures throughout the facade, highlighting the rugged beauty inherent in brutalism. Warm lights were strategically placed to create a contrast in tones, softening the overall aesthetic and infusing a sense of coziness. Wooden finishes were introduced to further enhance the warmth and provide a tactile and inviting feel to the residence.

In addition to the exterior design, special attention was given to the staircase, which serves as a prominent feature within the building. To bring in more natural lighting and a touch of nature, we integrated a landscape feature that covers multiple levels of the staircase. This innovative approach not only adds visual interest but also creates a connection with the outdoors, infusing the interior with an abundance of natural light and a refreshing ambiance.

The Baguio Residential Project showcases our ability to navigate the unique challenges posed by climate and architectural style. By carefully balancing the roughness and striking facade of brutalism with warm lighting, wooden finishes, and integrating landscape features, we have created a residence that harmoniously blends the best of both worlds. This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering exceptional designs that cater to our clients’ specific desires while maintaining a sense of comfort and homeliness.

Balancing Brutalism and Homeliness

Designed to accommodate the clients’ desire for additional guest accommodations, the lowest part of the building serves as a guest room for Airbnb, complete with a separate access point to ensure privacy and convenience for its users.

Within the residence itself, careful consideration was given to the layout to ensure optimal functionality and comfort. The ground floor houses a master bedroom designed specifically for the parents, providing easy accessibility and convenience. On the second floor, a second master bedroom awaits the son and his wife, providing a private sanctuary for their retreat.

To maximize the available space, a mezzanine level was incorporated above the master bedroom on the second floor. This additional level serves as a recreational area, offering a dedicated space for leisure activities and relaxation. Whether used as a hobby area, home office, or a space for entertainment, the mezzanine level enhances the functionality of the residence, adding an extra dimension to its versatility.

Seamless Versatility

To maximize the available space, a mezzanine level was incorporated above the master bedroom on the second floor. This additional level serves as a recreational area, offering a dedicated space for leisure activities and relaxation. Whether used as a hobby area, home office, or a space for entertainment, the mezzanine level enhances the functionality of the residence, adding an extra dimension to its versatility.

The Baguio Residential Project showcases our commitment to creating homes that seamlessly adapt to the evolving needs of its occupants. The integration of guest accommodations, master bedrooms on different levels, and the addition of a mezzanine level demonstrates our dedication to providing flexible and dynamic spaces that cater to the unique preferences and lifestyle of the residents.

Project 6 Filinvest Residential Project

2-Storey Residential Project

Nestled in the heart of Quezon City, the Filinvest Residential Project is a two-story dwelling that beautifully combines elements of wood, concrete, and natural light. The client’s vision for their space emphasized a seamless integration of these materials to create a harmonious and soothing atmosphere.

One of the standout features of this project is the corner glass window that stretches from the ground floor to the second floor. This architectural highlight was achieved through collaboration with our skilled structural engineer, ensuring the connection of the corner glasses to create a sense of continuity and provide stunning panoramic views. The expansive glass panels invite abundant natural light into the interiors, further enhancing the overall ambiance.

To bring the client’s taste for openness and tranquility to life, we opted for a design inspired by the minimalist aesthetic of Muji. The spaces within the residence feature vast white areas, promoting a sense of openness and simplicity. By incorporating wood and concrete accents, we introduced warm and earthy elements that add depth and a soothing touch to the overall design.

The Filinvest Residential Project is a testament to our commitment to creating spaces that blend aesthetics and functionality seamlessly. The combination of wood, concrete, and light not only creates a visually appealing environment but also cultivates a serene and calming atmosphere for the inhabitants. This project showcases our ability to transform a vision into reality, crafting a modern sanctuary that truly reflects the client’s desires and enhances their living experience.

Modern Serenity

The Filinvest Residential Project was thoughtfully designed to accommodate the needs of the wife, her two children, and the dedicated helpers who assist with everyday tasks. The residence prioritizes both functionality and aesthetics, incorporating various features to enhance comfort, safety, and the overall living experience.

Safety considerations were paramount in the design process. To ensure emergency preparedness, fire exit access points were strategically allocated throughout the residence. These access points are equipped with drop-down ladders, providing a secure means of escape in case of emergencies. The inclusion of these features demonstrates our commitment to creating spaces that prioritize the well-being and security of the occupants.

Stairways, ceilings, and hallways were carefully designed to incorporate accent lighting, adding a touch of sophistication and creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The accent lighting not only serves a functional purpose by illuminating the spaces but also serves as a design element, highlighting the architectural features and materials used in the structure.

In the Filinvest Residential Project, attention to detail was paramount, particularly in the design of the master bathrooms and bedroom. The master bathrooms were crafted with a focus on creating a comforting space, achieved through the careful selection of materials and color schemes.

Machuca tiles were chosen to adorn the floors of the master bathrooms, adding a touch of timeless elegance. Their intricate patterns and textures create a visual interest that complements the overall design. To further enhance the soothing atmosphere, bright-colored teal cabinetry was incorporated, offering a refreshing contrast to the white marbled walls. The combination of these elements creates a harmonious and comforting environment within the bathrooms.

The master bedroom underwent several revisions to ensure the utmost satisfaction of the client. Ultimately, fluted panels were chosen to align with the adjacent concrete wall, adding a sense of texture and depth to the space. These panels create a striking visual feature while maintaining a seamless connection with the overall design concept. The interplay of fluted panels and concrete accents establishes a modern and sophisticated ambiance within the master bedroom.

In addition, a common office space on the second floor, strategically positioned adjacent to the captivating corner glass window. This thoughtful inclusion provides the users with not only a dedicated workspace but also access to breathtaking views and abundant natural lighting, creating a serene and inspiring environment for work.

Project 8 Avenida Renovation Project

Mixed-used Project

The Avenida Renovation Project is a transformative endeavor aimed at revitalizing an old dormitory building located in the bustling Rizal Avenue. Tasked with breathing new life into the structure, our goal was to give the building a fresh facade while completely renovating its interiors to meet the standards of contemporary dormitory living. This mixed-use building not only incorporates modern living spaces but also features commercial areas, along with the addition of a rooftop deck that serves as a vibrant common space for the building’s occupants.

The facade of the building underwent a remarkable facelift, rejuvenating its appearance and bringing it in line with the surrounding urban landscape. Our design team skillfully integrated modern architectural elements, utilizing a harmonious blend of materials, textures, and colors to create a visually striking and contemporary exterior. The revamped facade not only enhances the building’s aesthetics but also provides a welcoming and inviting impression to both residents and passersby.

Internally, the Avenida Renovation Project transformed the interiors into functional and stylish living spaces that cater to the needs and preferences of modern dormitory living. The renovation process encompassed reimagining the layout, optimizing the use of space, and incorporating the latest trends in interior design. The result is a harmonious fusion of comfort, practicality, and aesthetics, providing a conducive environment for residents to study, relax, and interact with one another.

Adding to the appeal of the building, the introduction of commercial spaces creates a vibrant atmosphere and fosters a sense of community engagement. These spaces offer convenience and accessibility to the residents, while also contributing to the overall vitality of the building.

The crowning jewel of the Avenida Renovation Project is the newly added rooftop deck, which serves as a dynamic common space for the building’s inhabitants. This versatile area provides a panoramic view of the surroundings, offering a serene oasis amidst the urban landscape. The rooftop deck serves as a gathering spot, allowing residents to socialize, unwind, and enjoy the outdoor ambiance in a vibrant and communal setting.
