The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Kenya marked 204 years of the Solemn Declaration of the Independence of the homeland of Bolívar As part of the 204 years of the solemn declaration of the independence of the homeland, the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Kenya celebrated on 3rd July, 2015, one more year of the nation of Bolivar with a diplomatic reception at Nairobi. The celebration was attended by members of various sectors of society, Honorable David Pkosing, the MP for Pokot South,was the guest of honor on behalf of the Government of Kenya. It was also attended by various officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, members of the diplomatic corps in Nairobi, the community of Venezuelans living in Kenya and members of the Committee of Friendship and Solidarity Venezuela-Kenya. Ambassador Jhony Balza Arismendi in his speech said that thanks to the participation of the people in the struggle for independence, they managed to overturn 300 years of colonization, it was not easy, it demanded sacrifices, the price of a confrontation was paid, but our people, with courage, determination and strategic capacity, achieved victory. These ideas, at that time, personified by Simon Bolivar, were a historic landmark and today, when we review reality with the required cleanliness, we know that those ideas remain our roadmap in consolidating the Bolivarian process.

The Ambassador also said that today the Venezuelan people are proud of having had President Hugo Chavez, who encouraged conversion of the concept of independence as part of a strategic project that should consolidate and secure, and with President Nicolas Maduro it behooves us to make it happen for future generations. Finally, Ambassador Balza said that Africa is no stranger to the process of independence of Venezuela, thanks to slave uprisings that shaped a historic precedent, and now materialize with the relations between Venezuela and Kenya through a profound respect for the framework of an open and friendly dialogue process to build additional links needed to crystallize cooperation projects in the South-South perspective. Then the MP for South Pokot County, Pkosing David said in his speech that relations between the two countries have been cordial and friendly since 1982, and have been strengthened with the signing of cultural agreements in 2007 and energy cooperation in 2009. He stressed the mutual support between Kenya and Venezuela in international forums in order to achieve common solutions to the challenges affecting the welfare of our people. The event was enlivened with Venezuelan music and the presentation of a Kenyan cultural group, besides tasting typical sweets made by members of our people living in this country.
