CMV VJ, Surgeon discusses his new ministry opportunity

Also Included “The Wartleys” Page 3 “Rezin Dramatic Audio” Page 5

Surgeon conducts his first VOM presentation As of late, God has laid a new ministry on my heart in the form of “Voice of the Martyrs”. For the past several weeks, I have been in “training” for a volunteer position at VOM (www.persecution.com) as a “Voice Volunteer Network Volunteer”. This new opportunity would mean that I would be an area representative for VOM, speaking to churches, youth groups, small groups, schools, or anyone willing to listen about the persecuted church around the world. But first I had to go through 8 weeks of training, learning more about the ministry as well as

!

designing and recording my first practice presentation. On August 11th, I invited a hand full of friends to my house to listen to me speak for the recording. At the time of this writing, I’m preparing to send it off to the regional directors. And once I am approved, I’ll be eligible to officially speak on behalf of the organization.

About a half hour before my presentation, I recorded

an episode of “Christian Music Videos” highlighting VOM and talking about the events that were to occur later that evening. You’ll be able to see that episode the week of October 3rd. Also on October 3rd, I’ll post a short clip from my presentation on facebook, so you can see a little of how it went. Incidentally, you can also catch other episodes of CMV later this month that highlight the ministry opportunity as well. The first can bee seen the week of September 19th. For this episode, I record while preparing for my VOM practice presentation. And the week of September 26th, I am on location in Zeeland, Michigan volunteering and attending a VOM day-long conference. Though I don’t have any footage that I can show you of the conference, I can say that I heard from several ministers of the gospel who are persecuted for sharing the gospel in the respective nations. I also heard from VOM volunteers and their experiences working with the persecuted church.

The Wartleys New this month

STRIP - “RESPONSIBILITY” This months comic strip represents the first in a series of 10 that I am creating. The next 10 strips will roll out a full story when read all together, though when read individually, the reader can still gleam a biblical principle from the material. Not only is this months strip the first in a series of 10, but it is also the 30th Wartleys strip that I’ve made to date. My goal is to wrap up the entire Wartleys collection of strips, cartoons and single frame puzzles by creating 40 of each. That said, these next 10 strips will be the final 10 comic strips that I’ll create for The Wartleys. I named the strip for this month, “Responsibility”. If you’ve kept up with the comic strips series, you may remember Abby mentioning that she’d like to get a job so that she can participate in giving her tithe every Sunday. But as you can see in this months strip, saying you want

to take on more responsibility and actually doing it are two different things. I hope you stick around each month and follow the remaining 9 strips to get the full story.

As the months pass, I plan to release more than one puzzle or strip in a given month so that the cartoons, puzzles and strips all end at the same time. Lately, I’ve released one of each. So visit the KTF site often, and make sure you don’t miss a single strip, cartoon or puzzle!

bible daily just as we should eat food daily. This month, I thought it would be a neat idea to illustrate that through our characters. About a year ago, I began keeping track of how I spend my time, making sure that - among other things - I read the bible and pray to God daily. “Give us this day, our

CARTOON - “HEALING” I’m happy to announce a new cartoon posting this month, called “Healing”. This is the first in a 3-part arc written by Ivin Viljoen. The episode includes voice performances by David Sullivan (Pastor Swartz), Keegan Cox (Will), Tom Cox (Jerry), Jessica Cox (Judy) and Holly Otis (Abby) with additional graphics by Stephen Philips and Paul Wycliffe.

the one receiving that spurs the Holy Spirit to heal someone? What does it mean when someone is prayed for a miracle and they are not healed? I believe that God still heals today, but I’m often perplexed at the specifics that prompt the Holy Spirit to grant a healing. In any event, I look forward to releasing these next 3 episodes. I hope you find them thought provoking and encouraging.

NEW GRAPHIC

Does God heal today? That is one of the questions explored in this episode of The Wartleys as well as the next two that will Graphic artist, Philip follow. I’ve often had questions Stephens is at it again. For an about spiritual healings. Is it the faith of the one praying or upcoming episode of The

Wartleys, I was in need of a waiting room area. And as always, Philip answered my request. I’m always amazed at the kind of talent God sends our way, and their willingness to volunteer them in our ministry endeavors. If you’ve been following the newsletters of the months, you’ll know that Philip has created several environments for our characters to interact. He has also provided us the capability to make our characters express different emotions more clearly. As such, I just wanted to extend a special thanks to Philip for all of his hard work. • Read the comic strip today, Thursday, Sept. 1st, above. • Watch the cartoon, Wednesday, Sept. 7th • Play the online puzzle, Wednesday, Sept. 28th

Rezin Dramatic Audio Series Workshops shorten webisode postings this month

Due to my upcoming twoweek absence away from highspeed internet, there will only be two Rezin webisodes uploaded this month. The weekly posting schedule will resume in October. For two weeks this month, I’ll be in Rockport, Maine studying different aspects of video production and animation from Hollywood professionals. The first class that I’m scheduled for is “Introductory 3D Animation”. You might be wondering why I would look into an introductory class since I’ve spent a good amount of time working with 3D animation for Rezin and Joy (for Christian Music Videos). Well, one reason I want to take this class is because they’ll be teaching in Cinema 4D, a software that I’ve never used, and they’ll show how to “model” objects. So I’d be able to create props and buildings from scratch to use in future projects. As it is now, I

!

purchase each of our items online, unless I can find them for free. Customization will help me save money and allow me to tell a broader range of stories. If you’ve been following our newsletters, you may be aware that I’m planning to create a new 3D animated project soon. This class will certainly help. However, I just learned that the 3D class may not happen because of low enrollment. If that happens, I’m planning to take a “Visual Effects” class in its place. I’ll learn from the professionals how to do complex special effects for live action storytelling. I don’t have any movie-style projects planned right now, but if I take this class, I might begin to write one or two. Another reason why I may work on a live-action project is because the second week I’m in Maine, I’ll be taking a class called, “Production Sound

Mixing”. I’ve always wondered how the professionals are able to get such great sound in challenging audio situations. This class will help me to broaden my shot selection when making a live-action production. (When I say “liveaction”, I’m only referring to a project with real people in it as opposed to cartoon people). So, I’m very excited about the opportunities that God has given me to learn more about my craft. I’m always reminded that there is so much that I still don’t know. I always look forward to growing, and it looks like I’ll get that opportunity. Unfortunately, that means that I’ll only be able to post two Rezin webisodes this month. While in Maine, I don’t think I’ll have access to high-speed internet, which is what I’d need to upload the webisodes. So, instead of making a promise that I might not be able to deliver on, I decided to postpone them until I get back. The two webisodes for this month are as follows: • Tuesday, September 6th, download webisode 77, “Two Minds Are Better Than One” featuring the voices of Shawna Smith (Mariah) and Trevor (James Hickey). • Tuesday, September 27th, listen to webisode 78, “Glacus” starring Debbi Heiser (Shanara), Rick Chambers (Glacus), Larry Foster-Goodrich (Harrack), Larry Long (Harwin), Terri Brogan (Sylvia) and Tom Chalker (Harwick).
