KTF PRODUCTIONS The Wartleys

Watch “Tolerance”, a new Wartleys cartoon this month

It has been a while since I finished an episode of “The Wartleys” that was ready to post. Several months actually, but who’s counting? This month, however, I’m happy to announce the release of episode 30, “Tolerance”. Be sure to check it out Wednesday, June 8th at ktfproductions.com. “Tolerance” is written by Amy Atnip whose writing style I absolutely love. She has a sensibility that makes dialogue sound natural and authentic. The characters seem real, making the biblical principle remain powerful yet unforced. The only other finished episode that she’s written so far is “Modesty”, the first episode in season 2, addressing an issue from season 1 that I received several emails about. Each of the five writers for season 2

!

have drafted at least 4 episodes. Amy has written two additional upcoming episodes titled, “Comfort” and “Adoption”. I can’t wait to finish those as well. Our other writers, Ivin Viljoen and Kev Hill have written 5, while I wrote 6 episodes for season 2. Voice actor, Zack Lawrence, will appear in his very first Wartleys episode this month as Tony Lai. The other characters in this episode are Adam (Ian Trautman), Kelly (Jocelyn Trautman) and Abby (Holly Otis). One of the reasons this episode was delayed in it’s development is because there were several graphic elements that needed creating. Philip Stephens, designed almost every background shot that appears in this episode. If you

watch closely, you’ll also see a nice touch of movement perspective that he added. Any time the camera moves, you’ll notice that the background elements on screen adjust to add a look of more realistic perspective - or movement relative to the camera. This is the first episode to include such a look. He also finished all of the mouth articulations for the characters so that they aren’t smiling all of the time - as originally designed. A big “thank you” to all of our voice actors, writers and graphic artists for your help in making The Wartleys come to life. This 30th episode also marks the half-way point in season 2. Each episode can be seen online or downloaded through iTunes. Visit The Wartleys web site to also read online comic books, comic strips and play online puzzles. And feel free to let me know what you think by dropping me an email with your comments at writecmv@hotmail.com.

The Wartleys The strip is my mirror

It’s not as easy as you might think to write a 3-panel Christian comic strip. I have to think of a complete idea that can be explained in a short concise manor. What is even more difficult are the single panel puzzles. In many cases though, the comic strips are a reflection of what is going on in my life at the moment. Let’s take this months comic strip for example... I’m a tech geek. Not as much as some, but pretty bad. I have several gadgets and electronic toys. But when something new comes out, I have to really think about whether I should get it or not. I mean, yes it may be supercool, but can I justify it? God has been teaching me to be wise with the money he’s blessed me with. I’ve learned that just because something is the “latest and greatest” doesn’t mean that I should run out and buy it. Usually what I already have is working well and serves my needs. A new purchase would mean that I’d also have to figure out what to

!

do with the old model and I’d feel compelled to make sure I’m using the new one enough to kill any guilty feeling I might have for buying it. Anyway, you may or may not be the same. The principle of the strip is not that you shouldn’t buy new stuff, but to

really think about what you buy before you do. Being a good steward of money means that you should really weigh selfish purchases. If you can, wait a week or two for the impulse for buying to wear off. Then you

can see clearly as to whether you really want the new gadget... Something to think about anyway.

KTF begins plans for new animation project Plans are in the very beginning stages for a new 3D animated project. When I say “beginning stages”, I mean just that. Last month, KTF placed an order for a new Windows computer work station, and a 3TB hard drive primarily for this project. They recently arrived and I’m now in the process of getting everything uploaded and organized on the system for what I hope will be our next 3D animated project. At present, no concrete story elements have been established. The primary software application that will be used is Poser 7. Over the past months and years, I’ve accumulated several 3D elements for use in this new series. Since I’ve had the opportunity to use the same software for the original “Rezin Animated Series”, I plan to use what I have learned to better design a new project by creating the environments, characters and props before even writing the script and casting the voices. But first I have to re-learn the software because it has been several years since I last used it, and the software has advanced two versions since then. I am excited to embark on this new project, but it will take several months before I even get to the animation stage. Currently, I plan to create a website to post progress updates. Stay tuned.
