Roseman University Roadmap 2025-2026

Page 1

HISTORY

It started with a need. In 1999, a shortage of Pharmacists in Nevada was occurring at the very same time that a groundswell of demand for pharmacy education was growing. So, our three founders, each coming from healthcare, contributed $5,000 to start what is now Roseman University of Health Sciences. With this need came a desire to educate and train differently. To consider the varying learning styles adult learners have. To develop content mastery and excellence. And so, the Roseman Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® was born. And graduates went on to exceed standards. To get excellent jobs. To see a return on their investment. To become compassionate and skilled caregivers. With our 25th anniversary behind us, we look back on more than two and a half decades of applying this foundation to a broad universe of healthcare education, developing innovative programs that train a diverse student body to be exceptional leaders in their chosen fields. We look ahead to the limitless promise of the future, in providing our communities unparalleled patient care, scientific discovery and commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in our region and beyond.

This is the Roseman Story of Success.

WHAT MAKES ROSEMAN DIFFERENT?

Our founders approached learning in a different way. They recognized that every student has a different learning style and that adult learners may need to be engaged differently. They also believed that every student can succeed and compete at a very high level if given the right tools and training to do so.

Breaking down barriers and increasing communication and partnership between student and teacher are at the core of success, proficiency and content mastery. Student-to-student collaboration develops healthcare professionals that work in teams so that the patient has the very best chance of a good outcome.

The core principles behind this difference are:

An educational system in which all students can realistically attain high levels of achievement. We do not place emphasis on grades, rather on achievement of curricular outcomes.

A system of assessment designed to “detect and correct” problems, thus ensuring achievement of high expectations by all students. We are committed to an assessment system that encourages and gauges progress toward the accomplishment of high academic standards by all students.

An educational experience that goes beyond memorization of facts. We believe in the concept of deep learning and mastery of content that leads to understanding and the ability to apply knowledge and make wise decisions.

An educational system that makes better use of time. We utilize the “block system” of curricular design, which provides students with the opportunity to study one content area intensely and master it without distractions from other subjects.

A curriculum that utilizes and is supported by technology. We believe that technology holds a remarkable potential to stimulate thinking and learning, as well as being an effective tool for acquiring, evaluating and utilizing new knowledge.

An educational experience that values and responds to the needs of students and encourages teamwork and communication. Our curriculum places a premium on active learning in a noncompetitive, collaborative environment.

A curricular design that stresses the importance of early exposure to the profession. We believe in building basic skills early by exposing students to early practice experiences.

What is the

ROSEMAN UNIVERSITY SIX-POINT

MASTERY LEARNING MODEL® ?

CLASSROOM AS TEACHER

Classroom design and layout assures that every student is in close proximity to the instructor, to facilitate learning and encourage student participation.

BLOCK CURRICULUM

Students focus on one academic subject at a time, and must demonstrate competency at 90% or higher to pass.

EARLY EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Early exposure to clinical experiences enhances and supports learning in the classroom by providing students the opportunity to see, feel and understand what is taught in the classroom in an actual healthcare setting.

ASSESSMENT LEARNING

Learning, assessment, feedback and re-assessment are ongoing and continuous, allowing students to gauge their learning and detect areas of misunderstanding early

ACTIVE & COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

Class time incorporates a variety of activities to encourage participation and foster student interest, including discussions, case presentations, simulations, debates, group projects, role-playing, seminars, workshops and more

COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION

Students are measured on criterion-referenced test achievement, not against the performance of others.

INSIDE the HEXAGON

Student Perspectives of the Roseman Six-Point Mastery Learning Model®

CLASSROOM AS TEACHER

“I appreciated the layout of the classroom set-up and felt that I personally benefitted from being in the presence of each professor.” – Savannah Flores, PharmD Class of 2022

“My favorite facet of the model is Classroom as Teacher because the unique layout has made approaching the professors easier. This has helped me build some strong relationships with each of my professors and it has positively affected the way I learn and the way I have been performing academically.”

–Mehreen Hasan, PharmD Class of 2024

BLOCK CURRICULUM

“I love the Block Curriculum because I get to focus on one block at a time and learn everything about one subject instead of juggling multiple courses at a time as I have done before. Achieving 90 percent on assessments is challenging but attainable. I am less stressed about organizing my schedule every week and know what to expect when it comes to my day-to-day life. I love that I get to focus on one subject at a time and feel like I retain the information better this way.” – Ivan Lopez, PharmD Class of 2025

“The Block Curriculum allows for deep focus on one subject at a time, which has strengthened both my retention and confidence. It’s shaped how I approach challenges both in and out of the classroom. I find myself more disciplined, better at managing my time, and more collaborative. It has taught me to seek clarity, ask questions, and be accountable for fully understanding the material before moving forward. All skills I know will carry over into future clinical practice.” – Paige Holloway, DNPNA Class of 2027

“The Block Curriculum allowed me, as a student, to completely master a subject before moving on. I find it a lot more difficult to juggle multiple subjects or concepts at once. Focusing on that one subject and achieving a high score in assessment gave me confidence in the knowledge that I have and will apply in my future career.” – Anonymous, PharmD Class of 2023

ACTIVE & COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

“Active & Collaborative Learning was my favorite because so much was learned from my colleagues taking the same class! Everyone learns differently, and it helped me to be able to fill in the spaces of my learning by talking to fellow colleagues! This learning style has helped me to grow more as a person and to become my best self! I’ve learned so much about those around me and how much of an impact other people can have on your life!”

2023

“Active & Collaborative Learning has been one of my favorite facets of the Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® because it allows me to collaborate with my peers, use critical thinking skills, and apply lessons from lectures on how to solve real patient cases that our professors bring to class.” – Kianna Boc, PharmD Class of 2023

COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION

“I liked not competing with my colleagues. Since everyone had their own strengths, I think it made my class closer because we were able to help each other without the stress.” –Ella Cruz, DMD Class of 2023

“Removing traditional grades so that students focus on competency has made a more collaborative environment, where we would help each other with one goal: for all to be successful in the academics.” –Jun-Hong (Daniel) Yang, PharmD Class of 2024

ASSESSMENT LEARNING

“Assessment Learning encourages true learning and provides students feedback and an opportunity to improve.” – Will Sutherland, DMD Class of 2024

“Assessment Learning profoundly influences my learning journey and goal attainment. While initially challenging, the drive to meet high assessment standards has motivated me to excel. Embracing continuous assessment has enhanced my efficiency in mastering the material, as I’ve realized that seizing more learning opportunities leads to better comprehension. Moreover, the feedback and reassessment process play a crucial role in promptly identifying and addressing areas of weakness. Ultimately, the emphasis on Assessment Learning has not only boosted my confidence but also ensured ongoing improvement as I advance toward my goals.” – Robin Reed, PharmD Class of 2025

EARLY EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

“My favorite facet of the Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® is Early Experiential Learning. This component stands out because it bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, allowing students to see, feel, and understand the relevance of classroom teachings in real-world healthcare settings. Early exposure to clinical environments not only enhances learning but also builds confidence, hones clinical skills, and prepares students for the complexities of their future careers. This hands-on experience is invaluable, as it ensures that students are not just academically prepared but also practically competent, making them more effective and empathetic healthcare professionals.” – Urvi Patel, PharmD Class of 2025

SIX-POINT MASTERY LEARNING®

“I really enjoy Roseman’s Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® and the way faculty are dedicated to helping students understand and truly learn the material. I also like the length of the program." –MaraLee Egan, DMD Class of 2028

“As a student, I’ve found the Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® reinforces a strong foundation. It encourages me to approach each block with intention and depth, which is essential in a high-stakes profession like a certified registered nurse anesthetist. I find that it not only improves my academic performance but also enhances my ability to apply knowledge clinically.” –Harleen Sidhu, DNPNA Class of 2027
