Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU).

PAASCU re-accreditation

The PAASCU granted re-accreditation to three of USL’s higher education programs, consisting of Nursing, Computer Sciences (CS), and Information Technology (IT).

Through a virtual resurvey held on November 11-12, 2021, four areas, namely, College Community Involvement, Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, and Laboratories, of the Nursing program were vetted to ensure its quality.

It was accredited by Dr. Ma. Encarnacion Dychangco (St. Paul University Manila), Mr. Roy Cresencio Linao Jr. (Ateneo de Davao University), Dr. John Michael Lorena (Trinity University of Asia), and Dr. Jocelyn Cadena (University of Saint La Salle).

The CS and IT programs were also resurveyed on March 3-4, 2022 on the following areas: Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, and Laboratories. These areas were accredited by the team of Sr. Marivic Galamay, SFIC (St. Joseph’s College of Rodriguez), Dr. Gregg Victor Gabison (University of San Jose-Recoletos), and Engr. Gerardo Doroja (Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan).

As a result, these three programs are now eligible to apply for Level III PAASCU accreditation.

PAASCU formal survey

The university’s Pharmacy program is now eligible for Formal Survey upon compliance with certain accreditation requirements, as a result of the PAASCU virtual preliminary survey visit held on November 11-12, 2021.

The survey’s accreditors, namely, Dr. Ma. Encarnacion Dychangco (St. Paul University Manila), Ms. Fatima May Tesoro (San Pedro College, Davao City), and Dr. Ma. Eva San Juan and Ms. Kathleen Olaño of the University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao City, evaluated three areas: Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, and Laboratories.

Good news was also received by the Senior High School program as it is eligible to apply for a Formal Survey in one year after receiving the PAASCU report on the virtual preliminary visit conducted on February 2-3, 2022.

The USL-SHS is one of the first batches of private schools in the country that have subjected the new high school program to PAASCU preliminary visits. The visit would have been made last March, 2020, if not for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seven areas were evaluated by the accreditors: Leadership and Governance; Faculty; Curriculum and Instruction; Library and Audio-visual Resources; Laboratories/Facilities; Student Services; and School and Community.

The team of accreditors was composed of Dr. Heidi Marie

Padua (De La Salle Santiago Zobel School), Fr. Stephen Abuan, SJ (Ateneo de Naga University), Mr. Wilfredo Abrillo (San Beda CollegeAlabang), Ms. Angelita Bisares (Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc.), Dr. Ronald Santos (St. Paul College Pasig), Ms. Anna Cecilia Alvarez (St. Scholastica’s College), and Ms. Cheryl Villanueva (La Salle Green Hills), with Ms. Jane Martinez as the PAASCU representative.

The preliminary visit is the first step a program undergoes before the progressive levels of accreditation, while the formal survey cites the action taken by the school on the recommendations given by the preliminary survey team, and identifies the areas’ best features, and makes necessary recommendations.

Accreditation, according to PAASCU, “is a means of selfregulation which focuses on the evaluation and the continuous improvement of educational quality.” USLWB
