MALACAÑANG:‘AWKWARD’FORPBBM

TO CALL A SPECIAL SESSION ON VP DUTERTE’S IMPEACHMENT CASE

Malacañang has responded to calls from lawmakers urging President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr to convene a special congressional session for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, stating that the President is not inclined to do so

“The way we see it, it would be an awkward position on the part of the President to voluntarily call for [a] special session considering that there is this ongoing intrigues that the President is behind the impeachment proceedings,”

Malacañang Press Officer Claire Castro said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday, February 25

“So, it is better for the Senate to request the President considering that even the President made this pronouncement that if the Senate will ask him to call for a special session, he will do so,” she added

However, Senate President Chiz Escudero has no plans to conduct a special session, including that of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.

A LEAP INTO REALITY:

How Work Immersion Transformed the Future of University of San Agustin - Senior High School Students

As the calendar flipped to December 2024, a new chapter unfolded for the 12th-grade students of the University of San Agustin On December 2, over 600 students from STEM, HUMSS, and ABM strands embarked on a journey that would forever leave an indelible mark on their Senior High School experience: the work immersion program This initiative, meticulously crafted with the guidance of their teachers, immersed students in realworld environments, aligning them with their future career aspirations

The work immersion program was more than just a graduation requirement, it was a bridge connecting the theoretical foundations learned in the classroom to the practical realities of the professional world For students like Dane Margarette Cabaluna, an aspiring medical technologist, the experience was nothing short of transformative Assigned to the hospital’s laboratory department, Dane shared, “This experience gave me a glimpse of my future career, and I hope the rest of the immersion continues to be filled with new experiences ” Such sentiments echoed across various fields as students delved into specialized areas relevant to their preferred courses

The program’s impact was multifaceted It not only enhanced students’ readiness for higher education and future employment but also instilled in them a sense of purpose and direction By completing seventy-two hours of work immersion by December 13, 2024, students gained invaluable insights into their chosen professions

This hands-on experience allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards associated with their future careers

Moreover, the work immersion program served as a catalyst for personal growth It challenged students to step out of their comfort zones and adapt to new environments, fostering resilience and adaptability essential qualities for success in any field The experience was not just about accumulating hours; it was about forging connections, building networks, and creating memories that would last a lifetime

For many, this journey was not just about professional development but also personal fulfillment It was an opportunity to explore their passions, to discover hidden strengths, and to confront doubts The program allowed students to see themselves in roles they had only imagined, giving them a tangible sense of what their future could hold As students reflect on their work immersion experiences, they will undoubtedly cherish the moments of triumph and the lessons learned This chapter in their Senior High School journey was more than just a requirement; it was a defining moment that shaped their perspectives, broadened their horizons,

and ignited a fire of ambition within each one of

them

In the end, the work immersion program at the University of San Agustin was a testament to the power of experiential learning It reminded us that education is not confined to the walls of a classroom but extends into the real world, where dreams are shaped and futures are forged As these students move forward, they carry with them not just knowledge but a sense of purpose, ready to dive into the world with confidence, passion, and a clear vision for their future

Living in a technology-driven generation has its own advantages, whether things have become more convenient or everything became an ‘easy access ’

But in a world filled with the good and, inevitably, the bad, we can’t ensure that the existence of these types of innovation are being used appropriately all the time

In the recent years where AI is popularized, it is scary to think that it is now difficult to tell whether what we see in the media is true and reliable Just as Prof Stephen Hawking warns us, Artificial Intelligence “could spell the end of the human race ”

Though I can’t deny that our phones and computers are indeed a great help, however we have to be cautious in using them As statistics say, AI-enabled sites rapidly increase fake news as it can fabricate and allow anyone to publish fake content As scary as it sounds, numerous media outlets have reported cases of ‘deepfakes’ and its cause Artificial Intelligence

CAREER DAY 2025

TEM 11 - A students Jas Jensen Defacto and Raleigh Chayxyl Reyes took the spotlight in this year’s Mr & Ms Career Day Pageant, earning the Career Ambassador titles, held on January 22 at the university auditorium

With fierce competition and expectations running high, the pair dominated the stage and swept major awards Contestants from various sections showcased their confidence, wit, and style, but Defacto and Reyes stood out, sealing their place in the history of the event

“I feel very overwhelmed since this is our first time joining a pageant,” Defacto shared in an interview

Before the glitz and glamour of the pageant, students started the morning with a career talk featuring university department representatives from CCJ, CLASE, CNND, CPMT, COC, and COT The session aimed to equip students with knowledge about future careers and academic opportunities

Deepfakes, or online harassment, pose a significant threat to society, as many victims are misled and illiterate The use of AI can further limit access to common people, potentially worsening certain situations Therefore, it is crucial to address these issues and protect vulnerable individuals How about those who use it correctly? How about the people who are using it appropriately for their daily lives?

The education sector in the Philippines is facing a dire situation, with students relying on ChatGPT and low standards The country is considered one of the countries with low-quality education, with 78% of students failing to reach minimum proficiency levels in three PISA subjects The country ranks 5-6 years behind and ranks at the bottom The abuse of AI among the younger generation is a new disaster that will take years to resolve, given the current systems.

CLASE Supervisor Ms Rhoda Campillan left students with inspiring words: “Follow your heart and choose a career you love ”

The message sparked introspection among students, who engaged with career insights, considering their aspirations and diverse pathways The atmosphere was filled with thoughtful contemplation, preparing them for their professional roles

Additionally, four Grade 12 students from STEM, ABM, and HUMSS strands shared their immersion experiences, providing a realistic understanding of career challenges and rewards, preparing younger students for the transition from academic learning to practical application

The 2025 Senior High School Career Day promoted a proactive approach to career planning, urging students to pursue their passions with confidence and clarity

Nonetheless, it will be a part of our lives now And the only thing we can do is to embrace it positively and of course educate those who advocate its improper use We can’t continue to ignore these types of ruckus as it can turn into a massive disaster that has the potential to cause a bigger commotion in our “already suffering” society We can’t add to the existing heavy economical and political problems that we are currently going through As a youth, we have to help resolve problems we caused; lessen casualties to the obstacle we began

However, many admit that the existence of Artificial Intelligence is a silver lining in the dark clouds Amidst the damage it can cause, it also helps make things more at ease if used properly Because as we can notice, various apps such as Messengers’ MetaAI and TikToks’ Tako are open for everyone to utilize The only key, once again, is to mind the things we click in and out of these softwares

As told by our teachers and mentors, we need to learn how to distinguish facts from misinformation or disinformation Even though AI makes it hard for that to happen, refraining from imposing misuse of technology and ensuring credibility must always be practiced

We have to stand for correctness, we have to stand for the truth

Blessings In Decline

The continuous decline in the birth rate of the Philippines is what other people view as a blessing, but for some, it’s a curse.

Historically, having a dozen or even more children is embedded in our culture Filipinos consider family as the primary reason for existence, this ideology encourages procreation Now that the trend of the decrease in the birth rate of the Philippines is put into the spotlight, some people have taken it as a threat But, is it really worth worrying about?

According to Macrotrends, the current birth rate for the Philippines in 2025 is 19 177 per 1,000 people, which is a 1 04% decline from 2024, whereas 2024 had also a 1 03% decline from 2023 The statistics suggest an increasing pattern of percentage, not in birth rate, but in its decline

People are choosing not to have children due to financial constraints in the current economic climate, despite various social issues “Ayaw na nila mag-anak dahil sa hirap ng buhay” is what a netizen commented about the issue As mentioned by CBS News, a quarter of millennials and Generation Z do not have plans of having children due to finances Which is beyond valid for considering one’s financial capability of raising children

While other people are smiling from ear to ear upon hearing the news, capitalists and corporations are frowning from the apparent “economic challenge” drawn from this change

The Philippines’ declining birth rate is not the only economic threat, as capitalists fear losing the opportunity to build an empire of slaves and customers Two million Filipinos work overseas, making up a significant portion of the global workforce in certain industries This poses a challenge to foreign countries, which would have to hire employees from elsewhere Structural issues like low wages and unemployment further exacerbate poverty The Philippines must focus on building a self-sufficient economy, not a swarm of economic serfs

Having a high population rate only traps the country in a state of poverty Meaning, increasing population will also increase demand in food, water, supply, etc Failure to meet these basic needs to sustain life would only result in the stripping of children’s basic needs, such as food, education, healthcare, even housing and many more, which again, brings us more reasons to be pleased with the decline in the birth rate After all, who would wish to bear children in the cruel pits of poverty?

Who wouldn’t want to live in a country where children thrive, with access to nutritious food and quality education that nourishes both body and mind? Resources are managed sustainably, in which there is a balance in resources and the environment

Opportunities abound, with a strong social safety net and a fair chance for everyone to succeed Fair wages and decent working conditions are flourishing Who wouldn’t want his prosperous vision for our nation?

This should be seen as something positive, rather than negative This is driven by the pragmatic generations who were able to open their eyes to the harsh realities of our society

Ito’y hindi isang sumpa, kundi ay isang biyaya

THEDIEISCAST, MARCOSHOLDSFAST

Rodrigo Duterte’s six-year presidency as the 16th President of the Philippines astonished the world with his ruthless stance on crime and his frequently vulgar and contentious remarks Despite assaults on human rights, the rule of law, and the media, Duterte’s popularity remains intact among impoverished populations, comparable to that of Ferdinand Marcos, the notorious dictator.

His abrupt detention, wherein he confronts allegations of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) due to his affiliations with a series of homicides, signifies a substantial transformation in the nation’s political landscape, particularly impacting activists and the left-behind families of victims of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) On top of that, this arrest propels the two most influential political dynasties in the country toward a contentious confrontation with significant and immediate ramifications for domestic politics

President Marcos Jr views Duterte’s arrest as a precarious gamble with unfavorable odds This strategic maneuver may yield benefits for Marcos Jr and his political allies, yet the risks are substantial However, his dice are loaded; he casts them most effectively while exhibiting the most unpredictability Despite his consistent denial of ICC jurisdiction since 2022, Marcos Jr cited INTERPOL cooperation and minimized the ICC warrant in his press conference after the the former president’s departure for The Hague

As the rivalry between the two most influential political dynasties intensified and the coalition disintegrated, it became evident that the ICC was a strategic advantage for Marcos Jr and his associates when the president altered his position on the matter in January By enabling the detention of his predecessor by the ICC, analysts assert that Marcos Jr has inflicted a significant setback on the Duterte family

The Marcos family understands the significance of resurgence Their reentry into politics demonstrates that Filipino voters can overlook human rights violations, and that steadfast supporters of influential dynasties remain unwavering They possess the ability to reinstate even the most disreputable politicians The Marcos family must acknowledge that this strategy may also be applicable to another political lineage, specifically their adversaries, the Dutertes

Duterte and his daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio, continue to wield significant influence from their stronghold in Davao City, located in the southern Philippines In contrast to the daily fatalities observed during the peak of extrajudicial killings in 2016 and 2017, the current figures are reduced; however, approximately 300 to 400 individuals are still murdered annually, which remains an unacceptable toll

In the Philippines, justice for past atrocities is elusive, especially with powerful accused and weak accountability Analysts say the MarcosDuterte conflict will persist until Sara Duterte’s 2028 eligibility is determined

The realm of politics resembles a game of chance, where the individual in power is the one casting the dice The current president, Marcos Jr , cannot dictate the outcome of the roll, yet he can influence his strategy in the game

In the ongoing Marcos-Duterte conflict, regardless of which family claims triumph, the Filipino populace remains the ultimate casualty

HEALTHISWEALTH

PhilHealth Zero-Subsidy, a Cut to the Wrist?

Health is wealth, and access to healthcare should be a fundamental right, not a privilege However, the approved ‘zero-subsidy’ allocation for Philippine Health Insurance Corp. threatens to collapse the healthcare system of the country.

Sen Grace Poe cited PhilHealth’s ₱600 billion in unutilized reserves as the reason for withholding funding, a stance supported by Senate President Chiz Escudero, who termed it a “wake-up call,” and aligned with by President Marcos Jr

However, will this move really serve as a ‘wake-up call’ to PhilHealth? Or a cut to the wrist for the Filipinos?

PhilHealth’s history is plagued by scandals, including corruption, fraudulent claims, extravagant spending, and billions in unsettled hospital reimbursements Despite substantial reserves, it denies numerous claims, fueling demands for transparency and accountability This mismanagement, amidst widespread substandard healthcare, reveals a deeply troubled institution

While it is undeniable that the management of PhilHealth should be corrected, it is also a matter of fact that its members must not be corrupted

The Philippine government’s zero-budget allocation for PhilHealth in 2025 contradicts the Sin Tax Law and the Universal Health Care Act, jeopardizing equitable healthcare access for millions, particularly marginalized groups like indigents and senior citizens

Relying solely on PhilHealth’s reserves risks destabilizing the healthcare system and undermining universal healthcare goals, as these funds are intended for emergencies, not routine premium payments With over 62 million Filipinos depending on PhilHealth, this decision threatens reduced coverage and increased out-of-pocket expenses, exacerbating existing health inequalities

Despite PhilHealth’s assurances of operational sustainability, they acknowledge upcoming adjustments, leaving Filipinos with limited choice With ongoing challenges, lawmakers are urged to collaboratively seek lasting solutions that prioritize public needs

While the intent to tap into PhilHealth’s reserve funds aims to enforce accountability, it is unclear whether this will provide the long-term solutions needed to improve healthcare or a deep cut to the wrist that will endanger our healthcare system

NEWS OPINION 06

BREAKING SILENCE: Why Sex Education is Vital for Filipino Youth

n the silence surrounding sex education, our children are left to piece together fragmented information from sources that may mislead or misinform them.

They are bombarded with images, videos, and stories that distort the reality of what it means to be safe in their relationships Yet, despite the undeniable presence of sexual activity in their lives, many young people are left in the dark

It’s time to break the silence and give them the education they deserve

Despite the societal taboos surrounding it, many young people today are already engaging in sexual activities, often without the necessary knowledge or guidance to make informed decisions The consequences of this lack of education are evident in the rising rates of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and teenage pregnancies This brings me to my strong position in favor of incorporating sex education into the Philippine education curriculum

It creates an accurate understanding of “sex ” As we transition into an increasingly digital world, young people are exposed to vast amounts of information, much of it unfiltered Among this information is content about sex that is often exaggerated, unrealistic, or even misleading

behavior and premature engagement in sexual activity Sex education is not about encouraging sexual activity

Instead, it provides a safe and open environment for young people to ask questions, receive accurate information, and understand the implications of sex By doing so, we help reduce the stigmatization around the topic, making it easier for young people to seek accurate answers when they are curious about sexual matters

The goal of sex education is to present a responsible, realistic, and respectful understanding of sex, teaching that it is not something to be taken lightly but to be approached with care, mutual respect, and understanding Talking about sex should not be awkward and that if they have questions, they will receive appropriate answers It prevents STI and unplanned pregnancy

Whether we like it or not, premarital sex is happening among young people in the Philippines, as it is in many parts of the world

The question is not whether this is happening but how we, as a society, can equip our young people with the tools to make informed decisions and protect themselves

Moreover, such education helps foster a culture of mutual respect and responsibility, reducing the likelihood of unplanned pregnancies and helping young people avoid lifelong consequences that could arise from unsafe sexual practices

“ iThe internet offers easy access to such material, and while it may spark curiosity, it often shapes a distorted view of what sex truly is Without proper guidance, these misconceptions can drive young people to experiment prematurely, leading to risky sexual

Without proper education, many teenagers are unaware of the risks associated with unprotected sex, including the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV/AIDS and the possibility of unplanned pregnancies

Sex education promotes safe practices, including contraception and STD prevention, empowering youth with informed choices about consent and protection

UNTYING THE KNOT

“I thought he was the one ”

A statement from Michelle Bulang who left her abusive husband six years ago In between the echoes of legal reform and societal change, the debate over the divorce bill in the Philippines reaches a pivotal juncture As the nation ponders with the ultimate question of personal freedom versus cultural tradition, this bill could redefine relationships and rights in a country where divorce has long been a contentious issue The implementation of the Divorce bill is not only a necessity but a spark that will ignite a new cultural and societal revolution in the country

The legalization of divorce in the Philippines has been long debated not only by scholars but also by ordinary citizens It is well-known that the Philippines, alongside the Vatican, is one of the few countries where a married couple cannot legally dissolve their marriage, even in cases of infidelity or domestic abuse

Currently, annulment is the sole legal solution for ending a marriage, but it is a lengthy and costly process accessible only to the wealthier segments of society For most people, the process can drag on for years or even decades and involves substantial legal fees, often amounting to hundreds of thousands of pesos

It is an empowerment tool against sexual violence

One of the most alarming statistics in the Philippines is that over seven million children are sexually abused annually, according to the Cameleon Association Many of these victims are unaware of their rights, their bodies, and what constitutes healthy boundaries They may not have the language or knowledge to recognize inappropriate behavior, which leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse

Sex education not only educates young people about their own bodies but also empowers them to protect themselves from sexual violence Through comprehensive sex education, students learn about consent, personal boundaries, and how to speak up if those boundaries are violated This knowledge fosters a generation valuing consent and autonomy, empowering them to resist abuse and seek help

It is essential that our education system empowers both girls and boys to understand their rights and to feel confident in defending them

In conclusion, sex education is a critical tool that can help shape the future of our youth by providing them with the knowledge and understanding they need to navigate a complex world

It is not about promoting sexual activity but about ensuring that young people are equipped with the right information to make informed, responsible decisions.

This bill is not only going to forever change the landscape of our society, but untie the knot that spouses and children are chained to

PHILIPPINE POLITICS:

A

Circus We Can’t Escape

Politics in the Philippines has always been a spectacle one filled with drama, broken promises, and a never-ending cycle of the same faces in power

Every election season, candidates flood the streets with posters and jingles, promising change and a better future Yet, after they win, it’s the same story Corruption scandals, unfulfilled promises, and leaders who seem more focused on their own interests than the needs of the people

One of the biggest problems in our political system is dynasty politics Many of our leaders come from the same powerful families, passing positions down like family heirlooms Instead of electing leaders based on qualifications and vision, many Filipinos vote for familiar names, often ignoring the consequences How can we expect progress if we keep choosing leaders based on popularity rather than competence?

Corruption, a widespread issue in the Philippines, has led to widespread desensitization to it, with officials often stealing millions and some politicians even re-elected, despite the fact that their crimes are considered minor mistakes rather than betrayals of public trust If our leaders are more focused on enriching themselves than serving the country, how can we ever move forward?

However, the blame does not rest solely on politicians The people play a crucial role in this system But there is still hope The rise of social media has made it easier for Filipinos to hold politicians accountable More young people are getting involved, questioning authority, and demanding transparency If we want real change, we must start by educating ourselves, choosing our leaders wisely, and refusing to accept corruption as the norm

Divorce, on the other hand, offers a quicker, more affordable solution for escaping abusive or unfulfilling relationships The Absolute Divorce Bill, which passed the House of Representatives in May 2024, has the potential to make divorce legal in our predominantly Catholic country if it also clears the Senate “It has never gone this far,” said AJ Alfafara, executive convener of the Divorce PILIPINAS Coalition “This time around, I feel like we might just have a chance ” The bill has garnered significant support in Congress, and many are hopeful that it will soon become law

Domestic abuse and infidelity are pressing issues in many Filipino marriages, deeply affecting countless individuals With approximately 1 in 4 women experiencing domestic abuse and widespread reports of infidelity straining relationships, many couples find themselves trapped in toxic and unresolvable situations

The current legal system, reliant on costly and lengthy annulments, often fails to provide a timely or accessible solution for those seeking to escape such harmful environments Legalizing divorce would offer a practical alternative, allowing individuals to leave abusive or unfaithful relationships more swiftly and affordably, thus providing them with a chance to rebuild their lives free from ongoing trauma

This country deserves a new revolution, away from the old and restrictive ties of our religion Make divorce an option, it is funny that most of those people who oppose the legalization of the divorce bill are products of successful marriages and typical Filipino family settings. Let us help those who are suffering and trapped from failed marriages decide on what is best for them

Divorce may not be the best solution, but it as an option that will give them shears to cut the knots that binds them in traumatic, toxic, and lifethreatening marriages You can still have a successful marriage while having a divorce law in our country

“Not all marriages are blissful. If it’s working for you then good. But let’s not restrict people from making a choice that could possible improve their quality of living, let us give these people the right to make a choice and a second chance in life. Divorce is there only asn an option. It’s for those who need it.

Philippine politics may seem like a circus, but we, the people, are not just the audience. We are the ones who can rewrite the script. The question is, will we continue watching the same old show, or will we finally demand something better?

The legalization of divorce in the Philippines is not just a legal reform but a crucial step towards providing relief and empowerment to those trapped in harmful relationships, offering a more accessible and timely option for ending abusive or infidelity marriages

As AJ Alfafara, executive convener of the Divorce PILIPINAS Coalition, aptly puts it:

“Divorce is not about diminishing the value of marriage but about recognizing the need for a compassionate solution for those who find themselves in unbearable situations ”

Embracing this change would not only modernize our legal system but also affirm our commitment to the wellbeing and dignity of every individual

do you cling to when change seems to be the on

Who do you cling to when change seems to be the only constant in your life? Whether it’s leaving your small hometown for college, a childhood friend moving, a new addition to the family being born, lovers getting married, or a loved one getting buried Whether we like it or not, it’s inevitable, it’s bothersome, it makes its presence known, filling in the spaces where something alive used to be What once was a room full of voices that our neighbors would always complain about was now covered in silence The walls and doors being the only witnesses to the stories we could never tell

I bask in the glory of my own melancholy, yearning for the days I could never return to I look through my windows, letting the light seep through the blinds, the bustling streets, and strangers passing by I could only hope that maybe, just maybe, one of them would be a familiar face to me I could search the whole place, ask for directions, and yet I still could not find any possible answers I’d see students wearing my high school uniform, sitting in a circle, holding a plastic of mountain dew in one hand, laughing as if there was no tomorrow I can recall how I used to be like that, too I was thirteen, carefree, with no worries in sight, and no responsibilities to attend to

They say time heals all, but I’d argue that it still leaves some scars to bleed on their own I remain tethered to these seams, with fresh stitches and still bleeding palms No amount of time passing can ever change the fact that I am now too old for bedtime stories, to be tucked in the hollows of my comfy mattress, to make fortresses with my stuffed animals, to run around with no thoughts occupying my mind, and most of all to sleep soundly, not being haunted by the past or the anxiety of the future, but to embrace the present as it is

I know for a fact that it will never be the same as it was But maybe, it doesn’t have to be the same as it was before I can skim through the chapters

?

So, to whom do you cling to when change seems to be the only constant in your life? T h e r e a l i t y i s n o o n e b u t Y O U R S E L F

Beyond academics, your friends shape some of the best memories of your teenage years The spontaneous trips after class, the inside jokes that no one else understands, the endless conversations about the future all of these moments become a part of who you are The last year of high school is a bittersweet mix of excitement and nostalgia, and having friends to share it with makes it all the more special

As the year draws to a close, you begin to understand just how much these friendships mean The reality of graduation looms ahead, and with it comes the knowledge that soon, you will all take different paths Some will move to new cities, others will pursue different careers, and the daily routine of seeing each other at school will come to an end

But true friendships are not measured by distance or time apart; they are built on a foundation of trust, shared experiences, and genuine connection among one another

On graduation day, as you throw your caps into the air, you’ll look around and realize that while the journey of high school has ended, the friendships you’ve built will remain.

You will carry these people with you in your heart the ones who stood by you, who lifted you up when you fell, and who made your last year of high school the unforgettable experience that it was Because in the end, it’s not just about the grades you earned or the awards you received, but the people who walked beside you every step of the way

So cherish every moment, laugh a little louder, and hold on to the friendships that made your high school years so special. Because years from now, when you look back

at this time, it won’t be the stress or the exams that you remember—it will be the friends who made it all worthwhile.

Laughter echoed, where her giggles were laced with joy and a smile creased her plumb cheeks whilst being embraced within the arms of those who gave her life and all She had dreams of dancing gracefully like a ballerina, where space fascinates and enthrall her, making her pearly eyes sparkle

All attention was drawn to her, brought to be a forgiving young one, but who forgives her when life starts to creep in as it slowly haunts and dwells in her dreams?

“I want this!” “Give me that ” “Give it now!” “That’s mine.”

Six was the age when she first vividly remembered her rage; it was childish, but who would expect anything less when even grown adults struggle to tame the little menace adorned in a dress? During such a period, greed were trickling down her veins, and she tried to hold everything she asked for within her stubbly tiny hands, not knowing what was best

Her pitchy voice implied a spoilt little kid, but who are we to judge when things in her life were left to be negotiated before they were granted? The sickening, childish voice ceases as it is replaced by a resounding, bombastic one Her once sparkle-filled eyes watered as if the stars that once glistened now disintegrated into tears, threatening to spill Left no choice but to seek silence Never once wished her runny mouth could’ve been sewn shut In the end, no toy was given, but only the recurring dream that haunts

Ten She is by no means a friend to all but an acquaintance to many Years passed and by now she knew what they wanted, and it was never aligned with who she would be Friends that can be counted with a single hand, a presence that’s only up to par Simple yet change was nearing

A call rang; who could it be? An invitation? From whom? Then it dawned, just like how the sun sets till the moonlight rises to govern the vast sky A bitter taste stained her mouth

Why insert herself into a space where she was clearly forgotten, only to be remembered once her absence was noticed? It was as clear as day who she was destined to become

Turning 12 to 14 swiftly went by but one thing left them scathed and vulnerable Gurling and an emotional tornado of emotions tumbled down like molten rocks as it quickly solidified

BATANG ILONGGO, ITULOY ANG ADYO

Amidst the sadness, a glimmer of hope arises as the weight of societal inequality, which is often seen as an adult burden, creeps into the innocent realm of childhood

This serves as a sobering reminder that injustices in the world are not theoretical constructs, but concrete realities that even the most vulnerable among us perceive When the youth understand what it’s like to be denied basic human necessities, what sort of world are we creating?

Their viewpoints, pure by life experiences, convey an unfiltered truth, a reflection of the influential

stories that mold their young minds. The idea of children learning empathy, promoting inclusivity, and engaging in acts of kindness no matter how small offers a delicate and lovely vision of a future where knowledge and action can end the cycle.

It stirs a profound desire to shield them from harm while giving them the tools to become changemakers, to create a world where poverty nor inequality does not cast a shadow over their optimistic outlook.

As long as tomorrow exists, hope will endure, and these children hold the key to that hope.
