Academic Support If you’re looking for some extra support with academic work, our team in the Academic Support Centre (ASC) is here to help. Our team is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. We offer one-to-one or small group support in a relaxed environment in areas such as: • revision sessions for students re-taking English and/or maths • study skills (essay planning and research techniques) • skills building in areas such as spelling, algebra, percentages and punctuation • personal statements for UCAS applications • guidance for students working towards higher education qualifications Our supportive staff work flexibly, arranging appointments at times to suit you, and if required we’ll work closely with your tutors to ensure that your individual needs are met.

If you are under the age of 18 on the 1st of September preceding the start of a full-time course, you will be funded by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture and you will not be charged the fees. Tyler Livesey’s Success Story

Guided by his recipe for success: passion, determination and a positive work ethic, Head Chef Tyler Livesey started out in the kitchen as a kitchen porter. After picking up some basic food preparation skills by watching chefs at work, he decided to formally learn and gain the qualifications he needed to become a chef by undertaking the Catering & Hospitality course (Level 1, 2 and 3) at University College Isle of Man (UCM).

Level 1 NVQ 1 year, full time This course is designed to develop all the skills you will require to enable you to become a ’salon assistant’ and gain a basic knowledge of hairdressing.

Level 3 2 years, full time This qualification will develop skills and knowledge for those wishing to find employment in the Island’s engineering industries or for progression on to a degree in higher education. The 18-unit qualification is delivered over two years which is equivalent to 3 A Levels (UCAS points 48-168). Core subjects include Maths, Science and Mechanical design.
