Friday 3RD October 2025
Villa Marina, Douglas
Dear Graduates,
Today is about each of you – our graduates – and the journeys you have taken to reach this point. Whether this is your first step into higher learning, a career change, or a personal ambition fulfilled, you have shown commitment, resilience and passion. You should be deeply proud of what you have achieved.
This year is also a milestone in UCM’s story – these are a reminder of how far we have come. Alongside this proud history, we continue to look forward, with exciting developments in our curriculum, our estate, and our wider offering, ensuring we remain responsive to the needs of our students and our Island.
This year, we have also launched our new Values; to Belong, Grow and Thrive. They speak to who we are and who we want to be. I hope you leave with a feeling that at UCM you truly belonged, you were each given the individual support to grow in knowledge, skills and confidence, and of course thrive.
But graduation is not the end of the road. It is a stepping stone. The world is changing rapidly, and lifelong learning has never been more important. Whether you return to study with us through our adult learning programme, pursue new skills in the workplace, or simply continue to learn through the experiences of life, I encourage you to remain curious, open, and ready to adapt.
So, to you our graduates: take pride in this achievement, carry our values with you, and never stop learning. On behalf of all of us at UCM, congratulations. We wish you every success as you go forward to belong, grow, and thrive.
Congratulations

Over the past year Dr Fox has been working with UCM and Biosphere IOM through contributing towards a research strategy for our biosphere. In particular, ideas for research that UCM students might want to consider as well as projects that would attract researchers from further afield. He will present his perspectives at this year’s UCM Reserarch Festival. Doug fell in love with the Isle of Man 25 years ago and has been spending his summers in Peel ever since. This last year has held some health challenges for Doug’s family, and he looks forward to continuing to support UCM and the Isle of Man in the coming years.
The UCM Honorary Fellow Scheme recognises individuals who have actively contributed to the work of UCM (and will continue to do so) and through their professional achievements, reflect the vision of UCM and the Isle of Man.
