MAKING AN IMPACT The 31st Annual Alumni and Student Recognition Luncheon was held on April 27, 2018, in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). The luncheon focused on the impact that alumni, students, and friends of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Department have had on their communities. Following in line with the latest UCA Magazine and the 2017-2018 FACS Academic Newsletter, this Alumni Luncheon Newsletter highlights the success stories, scholarship, and impact that alumni are making in many people’s lives.

UCA BEAR ESSENTIALS FOOD PANTRY Attendees at the 31st Annual luncheon were given the opportunity to make an impact within the UCA campus. The Planning Committee partnered with the UCA Bear Essentials Food Pantry and invited FACS Department members, students and student-led organizations, alumni, and friends to donate food and supplies. We impacted UCA by supplying 100 pounds of food to the campus food pantry this Spring. The food pantry was established in 2014 to serve the students, staff, and faculty who need their services and is organized and run by UCA Employees and student volunteers. The UCA Food Pantry is a member of the College and University Food Bank Alliance (CUFBA), which is a professional organization consisting of campus-based programs focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger, and poverty among college and university students in the United States. Thank you for helping to impact the campus food pantry!

MAKING AN IMPACT IN DESIGN Kim Prescott is the Design Manager for Arkansas Children’s Hospital Planning, Design, and Construction. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and is National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certified. Kim shared about the impact she is able to make at Arkansas Children’s Hospital with the luncheon attendees. Kim creates thoughtful design standards that translate the organization branding into the built environment. She has a special interest in healthcare interiors and is dedicated to creating healing environments that enhance the human experience. Kim’s role has been to direct and define the organization’s brand and personality in the design of their facilities throughout their organization system. Their facilities are full of learning through health environments. Kim shared, “Beyond company logos the brand includes graphics, materials, products, and much more to form an experience. Branding is very important to companies like Arkansas Children's that rely on customer experience, and the healthcare industry is beginning to implement this strategy into design. This is changing the architecture and design for healthcare facilities and it is an important business concept for designers to understand.”
