The discipline we know today as Nursing is the result of the evolution within society of a basic activity: providing care. The nursing care approach considers the person as an integrated whole in all respects, including biological, psychological, spiritual and social dimensions, and professional practice includes the promotion and protection of health, disease prevention, health recovery, rehabilitation and social reintegration. As the core of the discipline of Nursing, care also includes teaching, managing health resources and research, in addition to direct provision of care to individuals, families and the community.
