Type of Degree
Students who elect to study the Degree in Health Biology should have an interest in biology disciplines associated with the Health Sciences, such as Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Physiology, Immunology, Parasitology, etc. Similarly, they should understand the principle contributions made by the various life forms to human health and well-being. It is, furthermore, an objective of this Degree that students should understand the methodology and techniques associated with biomedical research and biohealth analysis and control.
This is an officially recognised University Degree, valid throughout the European Higher Education Area.

Career opportunities The Degree in Health Biology has been specifically designed to enable graduates to undertake professional practice in the following areas: biomedical research, clinical laboratories, the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agro-food industries, nutrition and dietetics, health care and human welfare. Graduates can also orientate their education to the field of academic teaching, if this is their aim or vocation. Course contents Graduates in Health Biology will have a basic, applied and broad-based scientific education in biology disciplines related to the Health Sciences, providing them with an understanding of how the human body works and the ability to study and manage health and illness. This degree covers state-of-the-art aspects of biomedicine, in particular, cancer, stem cells, assisted reproduction, the human genome, genomics and proteomics, neurobiology, etc. In addition, given the application of these and other related course contents in biotechnology, the pharmaceutical and agrofood industries, clinical analysis, environmental analyses, epidemiological studies, etc., students will learn the most useful laboratory methods and techniques employed in these kinds of studies.
