Chambers County Emergency Services District No. 1 Buys Bunker Gear By Wade Thibodeaux   The Chambers County Emergency Services District No. 1 Board of Commissioners held their regular meeting via teleconference on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 6:00 pm. The short meeting was mostly a bill paying meeting but the Commissioners did have an action item to buy two sets of bunker gear for a total of $4,437.70 which was approved. The board also approved the financial report which showed a balance of $1,081,855.55 as well an item to approve the general council to submit an extension request to Chambers County

Commissioners Court for the submittal of the ESD's annual audit report. This years audit is running just a little behind schedule because the accountant hasn't been able to access the files in the ESD office due to Covid-19. The call report showed 27 calls for April and 126 total for the year. Fire Chief Brent Potier reported that the department currently has 12 volunteer firemen. The meeting was adjourned at 6:29 pm. and the next regular meeting of the Chambers County Emergency Services District No. 1 Board of Commissioners will be Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 6:00 pm.

Winnie Stowell EMS Has Short Meeting By Wade Thibodeaux  The Winnie Stowell Emergency Medical Service Board of Directors held a short meeting last Wednesday, May 18, 2020. The meeting began at 7:00 pm. and is one of the few in person meetings that has occurred over the last couple of months. Directors approved the bills to be payed which amounted to $10,798.28 for the month of April and then went right into the EMS Coordinator's report. He reported 85 calls for assistance in April of which 51 were transports, 28 refusals, 2 standby calls, and 4 cancelled. The department has received

324 calls for the year. The board did have an action item of renewing the Lucas device service agreement which they approved at a rate of $3,900.00 per year for a three year period. By Wade Thibodeaux  The Trinity Bay Conservation District Board of Directors held a special meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 9:00 am via teleconference for the purpose of reorganizing the Board by electing officers. This action was prompted by the sudden passing of Board President Mike Winzer earlier in the year and then the subsequent appointment of Cody Bauer to fill the vacancy. Board Vice President Gregg Turner had been conducting meetings until the board could reorganize. Director Dorothy Hamilton made

a motion to nominate Director Jeffrey Jenkins as President, Gregg Turner as Vice President, and Tommy Gilbert as Secretary -Treasurer. The motion was approved and the board was reorganized. The only other action item was to go out for request for proposals for legal services which passed 4-0 with Director Turner abstaining. The next regular meeting of the Trinity Bay Conservation District Board of Directors will be Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 9:00 am. and will more than likely be held once again by teleconference.

Commissioners Have Virtual Moment of Silence

Tr i n i t y B a y R e o r g a n i z e s Board of Directors

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, Commissioners Court was not able to hold their annual Moment at the Memorial and instead offer a virtual moment of silence as well as approving a resolution to honor the fallen officers of Chambers County. This picture is a screen shot of the entire Court observing the moment of silence.

By Wade Thibodeaux  The Chambers County Commissioners Court met in regular session Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 9:30 am. via a computer aided You Tube channel on the County's website. The annual Moment at the Memorial was not held this year due to the current Covid-19 situation, but the Court did approve the resolution to pay tribute to the fallen officers and they held a moment of silence

during the meeting from each of their respected offices. This agenda like the previous couple had a very heavy section on the consent agenda and very little on the department portion of the agenda. One item that generated quite a bit of discussion was the deferment of the Hotel Occupancy Tax payments for 90 days. After going back and forth with many questions, the Commissioners

finally approved a 90 day deferment on the payment of the tax from March 12, 2020 for all businesses in good standing with the County. Agenda items dealing with the agreement with Trinity Bay Conservation District for the construction of a new sewer plant in Hankamer were tabled pending the outcome of the TBCD meeting the next day. The consent agenda was next and the

Commissioners pulled several items for discussion including an update on Chambers County EMS, job descriptions, and a Memorandum of Understanding with Ameriport, LLC. concerning the proposed East -West -4 corridor and the future acceptance of Ameriport roads into the County system. Eventually, the entire consent agenda was approved and the Court retired to executive session at 10:32 am. After a lengthy executive session, the Court returned at 1:06 pm. to approve an inter local agreement with Liberty County for the funding of an employee for the Community Supervised Corrections Department with a proposed September 1, 2020 creation date. The Court was adjourned at 1:08 pm. with the next regular court to be Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 9:30 am. Unfortunately, that court was after The Hometown Press's deadline and a report will have to occur in a future edition.
