I took care of my business and washed my hands and grabbed my camera and headed outside. Somewhere in the 15 or 20 steps that I took from the bathroom to where my camera bag was stationed, I decided to change lenses so that I could catch the whole field full of graduates. I was trying to manipulate the lenses and

take the cover off of the rear part of the lense and place it onto the lense that I was trading out and was having trouble as my hands were full. About that time, I had a really stupid idea, I just let go of the camera thinking that it was around my neck and BAM. Within a split second that camera hit the floor and I was just sure that it would be in pieces whenever I reached down to pick it up. I am so used to having the camera around my

neck that I didn’t even think twice about letting go of the camera because the strap would catch it. Boy was I wrong this time. I put the two lenses down in my camera bag and reached down and picked up the camera. Miraculously, it was all in one piece and looked like it was not even scratched. My next thought was that I hoped that it hadn’t damaged any of the internal parts and more importantly the pictures that I had

already captured. The next thing that I did was to put the strap around my neck and then reached into the camera bag and pulled out the lense that I was trying to put on when all of this happened. I cautiously put the lenses on the camera and took a picture to see if the camera still worked. So far, so good. I took a few pictures with my backup camera so that the entire trip would not be lost if the card inside the dropped camera

was damaged and then proceeded to finish out the day with the dropped camera. The graduation ceremony went off without a hitch and actually worked out pretty good for this class that has had to endure a really strange year. When I got back to the office, I popped the card into the computer and there were all of my pictures....just like nothing had ever happened. So, the moral of the story is that if you are going to buy real-

ly expensive camera equipment...... buy Nikon...... they hold up really well under extreme field conditions. Either that or just use a cell phone..... that way you don’t have to change lenses. Till next time, I’m......... Wade in the Shade.

Have you ever done anything really stupid....I mean really stupid.......I have....... plenty of times, but what I did last Saturday may just be one for the record books......mine anyway. Huntsville

High School finally had their graduation last Saturday and it was at 8:00........AM...... in the Woodlands, which meant that I had to get up at 6:00 am.........I was not even sure that there was a

6:00 am. , but sure enough when the alarm went off and I verified that it was 6:00 am. I realized that it does come around in the morning as well and not just in the afternoon. Anyway, I staggered

E E R F around the bedroom and gathered up enough strength to get to the shower and was actually starting to feel pretty good as I was driving South down I-45. I had been told to not be late because the ceremony would not be long if everything went according to plan and even shorter if it looked like it was going to start raining and mirac-

ulously I made it there with time to spare. I was pretty familiar with the stadium as I have covered several football and soccer play off games there, so I made my way up to the press box and started shooting pictures. I started with my telephoto lens and was able to get some pretty good pictures and then my blood pressure pill with the

diuretic kicked in and I needed to make a trip to the little boys room. I know what you are saying about now in this part of the story......what is it about him and cameras in the bathroom.....and you would be partially right. I had the camera strap around my neck and I instinctively took the camera from around my (Cont. on pg 4)
