By Wade Thibodeaux   The Chambers County Commissioners Court last met on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 beginning at 9:30 am. in the County Courtroom of the Courthouse in Anahuac, Texas. The agenda was a long one with almost four pages of single spaced lines of agenda items and lasting well into the afternoon. Some of the highlights of the days activities included the court accepting a petition for the creation of a new drainage district on the West side of the County. This was the first step in the process of the creation of a new district and the court also approved the second step which was the setting of a public hearing at 10:00 am. on March 24, 2020 for public comments about the district. However, since no court was held on the 24th of March due to the Corona Virus Pandemic that issue will have to be revisited and advise sought on how to proceed with a public hearing at a later date. The court also approved the issuance of some $9,760,000.00 in Texas Pass-Through Toll Revenue and Limited Tax Bonds for the construction of a bridge in connection with the new
Fm 1409 project. The County received a 1.866% rate on the 25 year bonds. Commissioners also approved the installation of a 20KW generator at the Lilton Sonnier Arena in the Winnie Stowell Park to assist with lighting for crowd removal in the event of a power outage. This installation was part of a larger up to $108,828.00 change order for some changes to finish the final touches of the newly built arena. The court retired to executive session at 1:25 pm. to take up 9 agenda items requiring discussion behind closed doors. The next regular meeting of the court was scheduled for March 24, 2020, but that meeting did not happen due to the Virus and plans are being discussed about exactly which type of meeting (video, telephone, or in person) should take place on the 14th of April and just exactly who will be included and how they will be included for attendance. The Hometown Press will continue to monitor the situation and will report here in our print version and/ or online on our Facebook page The Hometown Press if warranted.
By Wade Thibodeaux  Chambers County has 17 cases of the Corona Virus or Covid-19 Virus as of Monday evening when this article was written. Three of the cases have recovered or "Graduated out" as DSHS(Department of State
Health Services) likes to call it when they report their latest information. East Chambers County is holding at 2 cases, Mid Chambers County has increased to 4 cases, and West Chambers County is leading the numbers with 11 cases. County officials
remind everyone to wash their hands and follow the social distancing guidelines as well as simply stay home if at all possible and venture out as little as possible and only when needing groceries or essential supplies. The Hometown Press will
continue to monitor and report on the situation here weekly in our print version and online on our Facebook page, The Hometown Press as conditions warrant.
By Wade Thibodeaux  Chambers County Sheriff's Office has received numerous calls about businesses not complying with the Governor's orders to close certain business locations. All hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, gyms, and other non
essential businesses were ordered closed during the disaster declarations issued by the Governor's office. The Chambers County Sheriff's Office has been responding to these calls and checking on the locations where claims about non compliance were
received. This local barber shop misunderstood the orders and thought that it was okay to be open as long as no more than 10 people were in the shop at one time. Once the CCSO officer explained the situation and the emergency order to this business own-
er, the location was closed immediately. The Chambers County Sheriff's Office is working diligently to ensure that all businesses comply, but they are doing so with a compassionate heart and a reasonably understanding attitude.
