TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC. Team United Maharlika Foundation Inc., or TUMFI, was conceived and organized by a group of community leaders whose goals and objectives were to make changes and practices to reflect the ideals and true process of democracy and entrepreneurship. On its evolution, it has become one of the most active organizations in the Filipino American community in the United States of America from its inception in September 2011. In 2012, TUMFI launched a program Calamities for Charities and collaborated with other organizations and entities for its advocacy on medical, surgical and dental missions in the Philippines. It has distributed cash; relief goods and foods to those affected by calamities and conducted humanitarian and charitable works in the Philippines and in the US. In 2014, TUMFI launched another program, The Outstanding Foreign Workers Gala to recognize individuals from different countries who continue to be the movers, supporters and proponents to their originating motherland. In 2015, TUMFI added The Maharlika Award in their Gala to recognize individuals born within and outside of the United States who continue in working and helping their local communities.

MESSAGE FROM TEAM UNITED EXEC VP TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC. – SEPTEMBER 15. 2019

Friends,

Team United was created to rekindle the role and responsibility of organization to work in harmony to effectively respond to the need of the community. The officer and supporter of this organization devoted themselves tirelessly to help our fellowmen back home in the Philippines and here in the US. Since 2011 Team United has been consistently conducting medical and dental mission in the Philippines and every year the program drew more and more medical professional volunteers. Every year we delivered our landmark service through our medical professionals and young volunteers in an area were there are lots of poverty and domestic conflict and war and we served tens of thousands of patients and donated more than $30,000 extra worth of medicine to local community organizations and local government unit in the Philippines since its founding and served more than twenty thousand patients. We also had feeding and gift giving to thousands of children and families and shipping of more than 100 balikbayan boxes of goods and relief during calamity through our conduit program Charities for Calamities, which has funded worth more than $50,000 exclusive of our shipment cost and transportation fee of our volunteers which the volunteers pay on their own. The contribution of our volunteers and members was extra ordinary. We value our partnership with other organization such as the Association of Christian Evangelist and Filipino International Community of America and JCI. Tears falling from my eyes as I look at the happy faces of the Children and the happy smiles of our tens of thousand of the people that we directly extended our help. In the last 8 years of Team United existence, we recognized more than 100 outstanding individuals representing millions of OFW around the world. OFW are considered modern heroes in the Philippines due to their contribution to global economy and to make Philippine economy afloat. The bedrock rationale of Team United is rooted in service and true love for our fellowmen. Today’ s event we will feature another group of people who will receive their award as outstanding overseas worker and Maharlika award. Thank you for your unselfish support and partnership with Team United. I will pray that God will bless your family and the organizationyou represent.

TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION, INC. ANNUAL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THE SUMMER THEMED EVENTS “Touch of Gold," "White Party. Name it what you want. But, we always ask ourselves: By what method would we be able to have an incredible time while encouraging solid, real bonds between individuals who cooperate? Call it perfect spot, correct time, or perhaps simply the right blend of diligent work and good fortune; yet, things always take off pretty fun and easy once the burst of sunshine starts to paint the summer skies with its golden dusts! And our TEAM UNITED family is always ready to favor each one with the heavenly company and delicious comestibles!

CHRISTMAS CAROLING

Caroling is a big part of the Filipino Christmas celebration. Once the dawn mass known as "Misa de Gallo" or "Simbang Gabi" begins, choralists will be on their feet singing Christmas hymns from house to house, spreading the joyous spirit of the season through tunes. Here in the U.S., our TEAM UNITED family tries to emulate the same celebration. During the Yuletide season, we gather our members to avail their leisure time and indulge in singing Christmas carols. We gather the monetary donations and put to use towards our yearly activities, for Missions in the Philippines, and other charitable causes that we support. In this manner, we also engage families, especially kids, to experience "caroling" the way we do it back home. This event is a joyous occasion for both children and adults.

CHARITIES FOR CALAMITIES

KARAOKE FOR A CAUSE

Charities for Calamities is the event and arm of Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc. that is automatically activated in the event that there is a calamity, like typhoon, hurricane and the likes that create havoc in a particular community here in the US or in the Philippines. TUMFI worked silently collecting usable items including canned foods, used clothings, toiletries, furnitures and cookwares, etc. Since its inception, Charities for Calamities had facilitated more than 75 boxes to the Philippines during Sendong, Yolanda and Ondoy just to mention a few. We also organized also a caravan of 7 SUVs to bring help to those affecated by Hurrican Sandy here in New York.

The primary thing to remember is that it doesn't make a difference whether you can actually sing or not. This is not about showing one's ability, but about having utter confidence. Singing louder makes it simpler, strangely. Additionally, you can't sing karaoke incidentally. You can utilize a senseless voice all you want, yet you've picked your tune since something about it addresses you. Singing karaoke just likens one to euphoria! In any case, whether we do it for fun or not, we do it because we have goals we want to achieve--- and that's to raise funds for the causes we support. More importantly, this activity encourages each one to take part, regardless that singing is their best talent or not. The involvement is what matters, the collective effort to attain that which is for the good of humanity, the amalgamation of different individuals with a common intention.

2019 OUTSTANDING FOREIGN WORKER HONOREE TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC. – SEPTEMBER 15. 2019

Lumen Castaneda Honoree for International Community Leadership Paraluman “Lumen” Guevara Castaneda, believes that life has a purpose, not only to be happy but to be useful. She is a believer of the quotation “What LEGACY did you leave for others to grow?” The legacy she is leaving behind is founding the UNITED FEDERATION OF FIL-AM EDUCATORS, (UNIFFIED), a non-profit organization of teachers which to this time has created 15 chapters in the United States of America and about 30 chapters in the Philippines. She didn’t realize that this organization she cofounded with Ronie Mataquel will grow leaps and bounds. Tita Lumen as she is fondly called in the community retired from the NYC board of Education after teaching for 21 years in addition to 34 years in the Philippines for a total of 55. She never was interested in becoming a principal, much more a supervisor. Her devotion was to honor and recognize Filipino teachers, active or retired by giving them awards such as the: the ULIRANG GURO (Outstanding Filipino Teachers of America), GAWAD LINGKOD (for active teachers), GAWAD SINAGTALA, and GAWAD LAMPARA( for retired teachers) , GAWAD AKAY (Influential teachers), and GAWAD NATATANGING GURO NG TAON NA MAY LAYUNIN. The last one requires that the teacher has a project to benefit children, or a school or a community. The organization alternately serves the teachers in the United States of America and the Philippines. It has just finished a successful summit in General Santos in South Cotobato with about 300 participants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This was inspired by Consul General Tess de Vega, who

- 18 -

TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC.

encouraged the organization to fill up the country with chapters. “The Philippines is a big country, fill her up with chapters” This is what we are doing. She is a member of the Fil-American Press Club of New York (FAPCNY) and used to write a column in newspapers. She is one of the grandmothers featured in COOKING WITH GRANNY, a You Tube show, was featured in ASIAN COMMUNITY, A TV SERIES by Ernabel Demilo, featuring outstanding Asians in America, was appointed AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE in 2015 and recognized as Mother of the Year by FICA. Lumen is not only concern with the teachers but she can memorize dialog as shown when she was given a part in the play WOMEN OF THE BIBLE by Miguel Braganza, as the wife of Noah. At her age, she was the oldest of the women of the Bible with two pages of dialog to memorize and deliver. She has received numerous awards from different organizations the latest was the “ICON OF IMPACT” given by JCI in New York. Tita Lumen is an active member of the church from the time she arrived in the country. She is a lector, an extraordinary minister, the most notable was when she read the Tagalog petition during the mass of Pope Benedict the XVI at the Yankee Stadium in 2012 attended by about 50,000 people and watched by millions around the world. After all is said and done, she is happy with her family of five children plus her in laws and her ten beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren coupled with her dedication and service to God. 2019 OUTSTANDING FOREIGN WORKER HONOREE TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC. – SEPTEMBER 15. 2019

Fr. Robert Lamirez

Honoree for Religious Evangelization With the memo “Faith in Action Builds a Nation”, Rev. Fr. Roberto Alvin Martinez Lamirez is blazing on fire supporting pro-active charitable organizations who are helping our Philippine nation restore her glory. A humble native of Mambusao, Capiz, and born of educator parents, Fr. Robert had realized early on in life that education is one of the best means to fight poverty. Scarcity is never a block but an encouragement to strive because God helps those who help themselves and call His Holy Name. Ordained in 1995 as a Catholic priest for the Archdiocese of Capiz, he spent his ministry serving and giving sacraments to church people and building Basic Ecclesiastical Communities among them. In Tagalog, “SAMBAYANIHAN”, a composite word coined from “Sambayanan” which means community. “Bayanihan” means spirit of solidarity, cooperation, and service among the members of the community, and “Samba” refers to the worshiping and prayerful nature of the Christian Community. Migrating to the United States in 2005, he ministered to Filipino immigrants in his parishes, supported Filipino American civic and religious groups, charities, and outreaches in and outside his parishes in any ways he can. In 2014, he co-founded “Help Basic Ecclesial Communities (Charity) Organization, a non-profit 501(c)3 charity organization in the USA, helping Philippine dioceses with Basic Ecclesial Communities, whose goal is a renewed church of the poor and

- 21 -

holistic transformation of Philippine society through Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC). Fr. Robert and HELP BEC Charity, dedicated “to not only teaching people how to fish but bringing them to the rich waters to fish so that they not only eat for a day but have plenty to eat every day”, started a marine sanctuary project at NAPTI Island, Panay, Capiz, developing the sea waters to provide livelihood to fisher folks, protect the ecosystem, and help promote tourism in the province of Capiz. Reports received on July 2018 indicated that even with 30% completion of the project, fish catch has already gone up by 500% thereby increasing the income of fisherman and opening related livelihood opportunities in the area. Sending their children to school is no longer a big challenge. Wishing that all coastal municipalities in the Philippines may dedicate and declare an area of their sea water into a marine sanctuary, Fr. Robert is currently working closely with his classmate Ako Bisaya Party List Congressman Engr. Sonny Lagon to pass “Adopt a Marine Sanctuary” a law in Congress. At present, Fr. Robert is assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas More Church, 12 Hollywood Avenue Fairfiled, New Jersey organizing youth ministry, coordinating RCIA, doing bible classes and other related church ministries. Fr. Robert’s favorite Biblical quote “ … faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” (James 2:17) nourishes his charitable heart each day. As “Grace builds on nature” may our prayers bring peace and prosperity to our family, to our nation, and to the world for God’s greater glory. Amen.

KAPWA

Maharlika Honoree - Organization KAPWA is a registered non-profit organization of Filipinos and Filipino-American families and individuals that was founded in June 2003. It began as KAFWA, the acronym for “Kasamahan ng mga Filipinos sa Westchester, ATBP (Association of Filipinos in Westchester) and was later renamed KASAMAHAN ng mga PiILIPINO sa Westchester, ATBP (KAPWA). More fitting now is that acronym which, literally in Tagalog, means “country man”, a “fellow worker”, an “associate”, or a “peer”. Such key word has expanded to become the organization’s guiding principle. “Mahalin mo ang iyong kapwa”, translated as “Love your neighbor”. Since then, the organization has evolved into a beacon of hope for the community, offering exemplary model of services, charity, and many other compassionate outreach programs in the FilipinoAmerican communities in the United States, the Philippines, and in other countries. Its motto is the reverberation of Mother Teresa of Culcatta’s “It is not how much we give, but how much love we have in giving.” Its past presidents, Benito Depra and Virgilio Ceniza , and the current president Edelqueen Ilangos, have perseveringly identified and stood up for the KAPWA’s core values and motivated their members to work purposefully andthcooperatively. Now on it’s 16 year, KAPWA has consistently raised its bar to a tremendous level of being more dedicated to render assistance to members and non-

members in times of crisis, aid victims of calamities domestically and internationally by giving cash or kind, grant educational assistance through a scholarship program to impoverished but deserving students in the Philippines, offer voluntary and charity works where the need arises, act in partnership with organizations in their medical and dental missions, as well as their fundraising efforts. With all humility, KAPWA’s most notable and recent accomplishments and ongoing projects include: Partnering with the American Cancer Society in its Breast Cancer Walk since 2010, Toy Drive for children in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Feeding Program and providing relief goods to fire victims in Barangay San Juan, Molo, Iloilo, in partnership with Red Cross Panay Chapter, NIG Marketing, and Rotaract Club of Panay on March 16, 2016, Distribution of school supplies at Colambo Elementary School, Manapla, Negros Occidental on June 26, 2016, Donating to Harvey hurricane victims through the Red Cross, Ongoing “Operation Tuli” in Mandalagan National High School, Bacolod City since its partnership with Rotaract North Bacolod City on May 7,2017; Tri Health Mission (“tuli”, medical and dental assistance to cover 100 recipients) in partnership with Rotaract North Bacolod City on May 26, 2018; Now on it’s 3rd year of sponsoring six students in partnership with Answering the Needs and the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP).
