About Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc. Many years of observations and experiences among Filipino Organizations here and abroad, TUMFI was conceived and organized by a few community leaders whose goals and objectives are to make changes and practices. These leaders formulated their mission statements and created their organizational chart that would reflect the ideals and true process of democracy and entrepreneurship. Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc. has evolved to become one of the most active organizations in the Filipino American community here in the United States of America. It started in September 2011, it has worked to collaborate with other organizations and party to several medical, surgical and dental missions in the Philippines. It has distributed cash and relief goods and foods to those affected by calamities and conducted humanitarian and charitable works in the Philippines and here in the US. TUMFI also recognized and continue on recognizing the vital contribution of the Overseas Foreign Workers who continue to be the movers, supporters and donors to the indigents in the Philippines. Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc. will continue to collaborate with other organizations and to become a helping hand and feet to those who are in need of help.

The Overseas Foreign Workers Award The Most Outstanding Overseas Foreign Workers Award was launched in 2014 with the purpose of recognizing the people who were born outside the United States of America, excel in their fields of endeavor and has made vital contribution to their country of origin and the United States of America by their charitable and humanitarian works. In selecting the awardees, there is a nomination process, discussion by the awards committee, and selection of an individual per category. After which, the awards committee chairman will make proper endorsements to the executive board for final approval. Thus, the Most Outstanding Overseas Foreign Workers Awardees.

Rene Ballenas Founder/President

In September 2011, a small group of determined individuals have come together to form a political party for the Philippine Independence Day Council, Incorporated’s elections with the purpose of change for that organization and enhance collaboration with other organizations. That party was TEAM UNITED. The rest was history. Team United has evolved so much and as an organization that was starting, we did everything to make things happen and collaborate with so many organizations so we can unite and strengthen the Filipino-American community in this part of the globe. It has become a Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc., registered in the state of New York. This is our Fourth Anniversary Gala and we celebrate the people who had made vital contribution to their community. Last year we launched the search for Most Outstanding Overseas Foreign Workers Award to honor and celebrate people who were born outside the United States of America and have done charitable and humanitarian services here and in their homeland while excelling in their fields of endeavors. This year we are launching the Maharlika Award for individuals, couples and organizations that had done their humanitarian and charitable works to their community with no limit on their birthplaces. These are the “noble” people and organizations who had contributed to the welfare of those who are in need. These are those who have done so much for their fellow men regardless of their color, race and orientation. Team United Maharlika Foundation, Inc., its officers and supporter salute this year’s awardees. We are proud of you and the whole world should be proud of all of you. My heartfelt and sincerest congratulations! God bless you and families.

Greg Agulan EVP/COO

First of all, I deeply thank you all for coming to honor these champions in the service to the community and applaud these individuals for their outstanding accomplishment in their chosen profession. On this occasion, I invite each of you to reflect deeply so we can fully recognize the enormous pride that these individuals have done to make us proud. They represent the millions of OFW (overseas foreign workers) who are working hard with sweat, tears and blood. Today we have to check ourselves if we have accomplished our mission of immigrating to this land which we call our second home. The first indication of whether we have accomplished our mission as OFW is by determining if we have more than what we need and begin to share these fruits of our labor to others beyond our families. If we aren’t able to make this measure, then we should strive to redefine our goals and purpose; ask ourselves why we left our country. Wasn’t it to achieve a better life? Those who successfully fulfilled the purpose of their journey and has continued to be closely connected to their original homeland are truly the champions. And some of these individuals are those whom we are honoring today. A hero is one who is living a sacrificial life. Sacrifice means a life of service. Only through life of service can we become true champions or modern day heroes. They represent the Modern heroes that is our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), simply because their tears, sweat and blood keep the Philippine economy afloat. The economic impact of money OFWs remittances is such that without it our First home economic capability will continuously dwindle in the face of global recession. Today we salute them as outstanding overseas foreign worker representing millions of OFWs around the world. Mabuhay ang OFWs and congratulations to all our honorees for tonight!

With utmost respect and sincerity, Rene D. Ballenas TEAM UNITED MAHARLIKA FOUNDATION INC. | 2nd OVERSEAS FOREIGN WORKERS AWARDS NIGHT| 4

Nida Cortez SVP/Corporate Secretary Chair Awards Committee

There are different perspectives for giving awards and recognition, common to others but to us it is SPECIAL because the recipients of the OFW and Maharlika Awards are extraordinary people for they are referred to as the “Heroes of the 21st Century.” As the chair of the Search for Awardees 2015, I am so impressed with their resumes. They possess strong leadership, management skill, dynamic communication from the top down and from the bottom up, and countless humanitarian services. These awardees have my admiration for what they have accomplished and for their commitment that lead to such accomplishments. We are celebrating some of the very qualities that make us human-our abilities to reason, to discover, to learn, to pass on knowledge and to make differences in the lives of so many here and abroad. I commend all of you present today for being an inspiration to one another. Your presence, support and effort are signs of encouragement, satisfaction and you have identified yourself as part of a group that will make things happen. To all our supporters and sponsors, I value your concepts of volunteerism and charity which are firmly rooted in our national heritage. I hope you will also regard the awards as symbols of our gratitude for illuminating the darkness of those individuals your programs have touched. The TUMFI, though how small it is has also shown concerns about purpose and people. Let’s celebrate our achievements! Mabuhay tayong lahat!

Rick Respicio SVP/CFO

I am honored to be with you today in celebrating Team United’s Fourth Year Anniversary. Four years ago, Team United celebrated its first anniversary. Since then, Team United has grown and matured into an effective organization fulfilling its mission and purpose each year. The team responds to the unending health care needs of people in the Philippines who have virtually no medical resources by providing medical missions to the hardest hit regions of the Philippines. We also created Charities for Calamities, to provide relief for calamity-stricken areas in the Philippines and around the world. Its mission is to help severely stricken areas caused by natural disasters. Being the 12th most populous nation in the world with 98 million people, the Philippines rank in the top five countries in the world for natural disasters, therefore, it has suffered several major disasters and Team United is always there to provide assistance and relief. As part of the Filipino-American community, we also take part in Filipino-American events and give our support to help them in their cause. Finally, we create various fundraising events in the Tri-State Area to reach our goals and to make our projects a success. I am also excited in recognizing the contribution of Overseas Foreign Workers who excel in their fields of endeavor and has made vital contributions to their country of origin and in the United States by their charitable and humanitarian works as we present them with the Award for the Most Outstanding Foreign Worker for 2015 and also with the inauguration of the Maharlika Award which is being awarded for the first time this year for individuals, couples or organizations who do not stop to display the capacity to help to those who are in need of help the most. I am thrilled as we honor these outstanding and noble individuals. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your contributions and continued support. Without you, all of this would not have been possible.

Cynthia Ballenas SVP/Human Resources 2015 Ball Chair

Ria Serrano SVP Operations

As chairman of this year’s celebration, it is with great enthusiasm to welcome you to Team United Maharlika Foundation’s 4th Anniversary Gala. TUMFI is a family that works together and love to be of service to others as shown with the great humanitarian outreaches this organization has already done.

I am thrilled to welcome each and everyone one of you who have given up your Sunday afternoon to join us on this occasion as Team United Maharlika Foundation Inc. celebrate its 4th year anniversary. Same big thanks as well to those who have continuously supported our projects throughout the years so that our organization can fulfill its advocacies.

This reminds of the parable of the star fish.

For the past 3 years, we have raised funds through entertainment events and Christmas carol singing in order to have immediate funds that can readily be deployed for townships stricken with calamities.

One day an old man was walking along the beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked, he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one. Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing. Without looking up from his task, the boy simply replied, “I’m saving these starfish, Sir.” The old man chuckled aloud, “Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?” The boy picked a starfish, gently tossed it into the water and turning to the man, said, “It made a difference to that one.” So many of us lose sight of the fact that WE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS. IT ALL STARTS WITH ONE. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE WHAT YOU CAN DO. We all have the power within us. When we all help ONE life, collectively, as a team, WE CAN change the world. I urge you to pick your starfish, and begin to make a difference. It all starts with THE POWER OF ONE, and the Power of NOW.

Last year, we introduced our first OFW awards as an additional event to celebrate and recognize outstanding individuals in the community. It is very encouraging to see how many individuals go out of their way on top of their regular day job to help other people and this is what the Overseas Foreign Worker’s Award is about. It is truly an admirable nature. While we continuously raised funds throughout the year, the proceeds from last year's events went towards the February 2015 medical mission in La Castellana. This incoming year will be an exciting one for me as I join my colleagues in Team United's for their medical mission in Iloilo. This will be my first ever medical mission and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with these selfless individuals who comprise the Team United Maharlika Foundation Inc. Thank you once again for joinining us today and we look forward to meeting you again for our future events.

Congratulations to all the officers and members of TUMFI and to all the awardees and our supporters, thank you all for throwing as many starfishes as you did, back to the ocean, through your incredible contribution.

Sahid Syed is a well-respected community leader and a former local Union and Government official, who for the past twenty years has been actively involved in civic, community, political, labor, and human rights issues on Long Island and New York City. He is the founder and the Chairman of the South Asian-American Political Action Committee Long Island (SAPAC) which proactively helps the South -Asian community be integrated into the mainstream American society.

Hailed from Pangasinan, born, raised and acquired early education in Lingayen. Architect Jesse Tomelden obtained both his B.S. in Fine Arts and B.S. in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas. For twelve years in the Philippines he was affiliated with several architectural firms preparing landscape designs for parks, supervised the development of national parks all of these are still existing now.

Mr. Syed made history by being the first ever Asian American to be appointed as the Chairman/ Commissioner of the Nassau County Commission on Human Rights which is dedicated to improving the relations and insuring equality of opportunity in Nassau County. The Commissioner has several positions such as Co-chairman of the Nassau County Anti-Bias Crime Task Force, Board Member of the Community Advisory Board of Nassau University Medical Center, Nassau County Executive Asian- American Advisory Board, the Nassau County Jail Advisory Committee, the Nassau County Holocaust Memorial Center, the North Shore Children and Family Guidance Center, and Vice chair for the Hofstra University Diversity Banquet.

Here in USA he had worked in several firms involving planning, designing and drafting in major government projects like the Port Newark Marine Terminal, Coney Island Water Pollution Control Plant Project, North River Water Pollution Control Plant, New York State Thruway, nine Bridges Rehabilitation project including the Tri-Borough Bridge and upgrading the Amawalk Water Filtration Plant. His accomplishments related to his job are so enormous that even he is already retired some firms and private individuals still seek his specialty as an architect that he is now designing the construction of a resort and children's park in Camiguin Island

His community services have been too extensive and noteworthy. Among these are: Asian- American Heritage Month celebration, Leadership Breakfast, After party , organized seminars for English as a Second Language, computer literacy, health education and awareness on immigration issues. He lobbied for the increase of wages and benefits for the working class especially the limousine drivers throughout NYS Attorney General’s offices.

To his fellow Pangasinenses, he is always considered an asset to their organizations because he is so unselfish when it comes to charitable and humanitarian reasons. He contributes to the best of his ability, supports financially, morally and socially any project he gets involved in, he promotes awareness to arts and beautiful spots in Pangasinan by supporting small artists to do their craft in order to become professional in their work. Jess as he is fondly called by his friends, has a very positive outlook in life, and has strong faith in God.

Mr. Syed accomplishments are so evident that he received countless awards and recognitions from the United States Senate, Governor's Office, Mayor's Office, New York State Assembly, Nassau County, Union Officials, School Offices, Media Organizations and civic organizations. And today from a Filipino- American organization he is recognized as the Most Outstanding Foreign Worker in Government Service.

Thirty one years of existence originally called Pangasinan Association in USA, but assumed the name APAFI three years ago, when Nida Cortez a retired special education teacher became the president. Changes have been made, young faces from different walks of life became officers and members, projects have been lined up ready for implementation, fund raising events were planned carefully and financial condition improved with accurate transparency. Relief goods were sent to victims of calamities. The medical and dental mission is now on its fourth year with Mr. Bayani Lapena as the president expanding it to the distribution of medical hygiene facilities for day care centers and next year surgical will be done at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City. Mr. Lapena continues the platform of Nida, maintaining the positive atmosphere and outlook of all members and outlook of all members and officers, more networking and outreaching not only to the members but to different organizations here and abroad. Membership has increased tremendously and younger generation of Pangasinenses are ready to assume the leadership as the older officers are about to retire. Four years under Cortez and Lapena's administration has been a reality, an inspiration and a contribution to mankind as APAFI has already served about 15, 000 Pangasinenses through the medical and dental missions and 15 Day Care Centers have been helped by donating school supplies, water basins dental hygiene facilities and instructional materials. Their motto “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is a progress and working together is a success.' has been an inspiration to them.

One of the global problems we are facing now is the rapid increase of obese people. The reasons are so varied but the principal one is people are not conscious of what exercise can do or physical activities must not be ignored all the time or the lack of personnel to lead them. One of the awardees is an expertise of physical activities which are needed to make a difference in the lives of those who are in need. James Zourzoukis is a holder of Bachelor of Arts in Community Parks and Recreation from Kean University and graduated as Cum Laude Honors in 2000. He joined the NJ Physical Therapy Assistant Program in Union County College. He has work experiences as YMCA Swim Instructor. Pool Manager, Recreation Center Director and Parks and Recreation Specialist. He holds certifications as professional rescuer, certified pool operator, lifeguard, and personal trainer. James, during his off time from his job, gathers young boys and coaches them in swimming, basketball and other outdoor activities. He also encourages elderly to do some jogging around the neighborhood and manages some camping projects during summer time. If there will be more James then obesity will not be a problem anymore.

Roberto and Teresa Denosta have been quite the busy couple despite the fact that their children have left their nests almost a decade ago. The dynamic duo have been involved with spreading knowledge of health care based on practices by the Seventh-Day Adventist church, as well as organizing various community and outreach events. Roberto graduated from Central Philippine University while Teresa is an Alumni of AUP. She is also currently serving as the President of the EASNAC New York Chapter. The couple are very passionate about being able to organize an annual health expo held in Ocean City, NJ under the Philippine Consulate in which many people have benefited from free health care services and consultations. They have also facilitated a health expo in local areas such as the PAFCOM Independence Parade in Lion Park, Jersey City and at Fiesta in Meadowlands, Secaucus, NJ. They have been instrumental in coordinating the AUP Alumni to join the Philippine Independence Day parade held in New York City. Recently, they participated in the Medical Mission in La Castellana Negros OCC, along with their esteemed colleague, Rene Ballenas. The duo has no plans of stopping with their activities. It is what they are passionate about and are very happy just to be able to assist with each events success.

You can't judge a book by its own cover, this phrase refers to Mr. John Gadia, “a small but terrible young man whose passion and hobbies combine together make him a man of action. His experiences during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo which destroyed their house gave him the inspiration to hold and organize fundraising events to help the victims of natural calamities. He hosted concerts to raise funds for the victims of typhoons Ondoy in 2009, Sendong in 2011 and the Yolanda/ Haiyan in the Visayas Region. He also organized a feeding program for the volunteers who helped 2012 during the attack of typhoon Sandy. Little John, as he is fondly called, strongly believes on giving back some of the blessings he has to his fellow kababayans by helping newly arrived Filipinos in America get jobs so they can later support their family way back home and in return these individuals show their gratitude to him by supporting his charitable projects. For more of his goals and missions in life see him on Facebook with his F.A.T.H.E.R

Do you believe in miracles? If not then you must know this individual, Miss April Talangbayan. She was born in November 10 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, barely alive. The doctor transported her by helicopter to a more equipped hospital, stayed there for a period of time supported by her family with the greatest passion and dedication especially her siblings and dad who are in the medical fields. The Talangbayans are believers in the power of prayers and their friends as well including her in their prayers on their trips to holy places. April got well and gradually grew up as a very gorgeous lady with so many talents defeating all odds that her doctors could not believe her achievements. From a very frail and sickly girl she became a sprinter for the school's tract team, qualified to join the deep water swim team. Her thirst to know the Philippine culture satisfies her when she became a member of the Philippine Dance Company, her favorite one is the Singkil Royal Dance. She attended the Russian Ballet School and became a solo performer. The concert of the Galway and Rampal inspired her to be a flutist. April is not only an ordinary performer but a perfect one and was able to transform herself into an extraordinary achiever in all her endeavors. Miss Talangbayan divides her honorarium as the co-owner of a medical clinic and as Physician Assistant in Philadelphia to different charities here and abroad. Her time is also well allocated to her job and to the music ministry of her church.

. When Michelle was young and just came over to America to join her parents, she has been already a church goer and active in the church, leading the younger generation in church activities. She participated in events sponsored by the San Lorenzo Ruiz Group to raise funds for projects in St Francis de Sales Church and several parishes in the Philippines, the Child Missionaries in Manila, the Quezon Institute and financing some missionaries aside from her greatly involvement in her mother's project, the Perpetual Help at the Holy Child Jesus. Now Michelle is a young mother of three, the wife of David Liang and becoming a great achiever in her line of specialty. She is a dynamic, people-person business professional with unique talents in formulating ideas, sparking interest, and seamless execution. She is keen on organization, detail and time management, versatile, solution- driven and also focused as a mentor or as a team player. Her strong relationship enables her to maintain cohesion and attain desired outcomes. She has occupied different positions such as: Senior Associate, Program Manager at the MERCER, New York, Assistant Vice President, Global Project Quality Manager of the MARSH, New York, and Operations Manager of the Princeton Review, Inc. New York and Accounts Receivables Manager at the Saint David School, New York City. Mrs. Liang has BA and MA in Economics magna cum Laude from the City University of New York and has been affiliated in different business entities. Michelle represents the younger generation of the Filipino-Americans. Hopefully she will also contributes to the Filipino- American organizations especially the APAFI where she belongs, who is in dire need of a leader like her, financially and morally. Western Union honors twenty-five Filipino migrants as Heroes for Better MANILA, Philippines, August 31, 2015 – After months of searching for Filipino migrants who have made a positive impact in the community, The Western Union Company (NYSE:WU), a leader in global payment services, announced today the top 25 Filipino migrants who are living proof that Filipino migrants are indeed our modern day heroes. Western Union wishes to recognize the heroic efforts of Filipino migrants, especially during Filipino Heroes Day, and affirm their invaluable contribution to their families, communities and the country. The migrants did not just send money back home; they have also given pride to the Filipino community with their successful missions. “The Heroes for Better campaign celebrates the lives of migrant Filipinos, their work and their personal advocacies because they were the ones who were courageous enough to run after their dreams and in fact, they even took it further by fulfilling other people’s dreams,” shares Patricia Riingen, Senior Vice President, South East Asia & Oceania, Western Union. “The campaign does not just recognize and tell their stories; it also provides a platform to inspire others to pay it forward.” Present in last Monday’s Heroes for Better press conference were three heroes – Nilo Beltran, founder of the Skills Caravan – a non-profit organization which provides free technical skills workshops to jail inmates, out of school youth and unemployed members of underprivileged communities in the Philippines; Edmond Corpuz, founder of the “Black Pencil” advocacy project which helped bring school supplies to 1,200 school children in rural areas; and Nestor Puno, a missionary who teaches a small school in Japan for Filipino and Filipino-Japanese children who cannot enter regular schools due to their residency status. “I guess it holds true for all of us, that it started with an issue that has affected us and it simply compelled us to take action. It’s not that we wanted to change the world, we just wanted to help in our own way,” says Nestor Puno. “This recognition given to us by Western Union inspires us to continue and even extend the reach of our advocacies, involve more people, and hopefully influence other migrants to start their own missions too,” adds Nilo Beltran. Learn more about inspiring stories of the top 25 Filipino migrants by visiting wuheroesforbetter.org. About Western Union The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU) is a leader in global payment services.
