Erub, Poruma and Warraber communities will benefit when important infrastructure is built by Australian Army personnel in the coming months, as part of an ongoing commitment to First Nations people under AACAP (Army Ailan Community Assistance Program). Between May and September 2025, Australian Army members from 17th Sustainment Brigade, will live and work alongside the community to deliver community-driven infrastructure projects, flood management upgrades, vocational training to support employment pathways and wellbeing and lifestyle initiatives as part of the program. The infrastructure will include a community hall and carriage way culvert on Erub, a sports facility on Poruma Island and

facility refurbishments and road paving on Warraber. Sixth Engineer Support Regiment (6SER) Captain Ji-Sang Yu said AACAP provided unique benefits for the community. “Over the next five months, 6th Engineer Support Regiment, 19th Chief Engineer Works and supporting units will live and work alongside the community,” he said. “It ultimately connects the people from each island with our soldiers during the program through various community engagement activities.” AACAP aimed to improve infrastructure and health in remote Indigenous communities and provided an opportunity for engineers from the 6ESR and other Army elements to enhance foundation trade skills required for expeditionary basing and construction tasks.
