Boigu’s Paga Panthers win Origin Paga Panthers are the toast of regional footy after winning the 2024 Island of Origin series at the Joe Mairu Oval at Wakaid on Badu Island last weekend. The men from Boigu won 36-12 over NPA side, the Cape Stallions, while in the women’s comp, NQ Sistas United won 16-6 over Arkai Sisters. In the picture Paga Panthers are taking their trophy home.

Freight subsidy raised to 20 per cent Queensland Premier Steven Miles has lifted the discount on essential goods in remote communities from 5.2 per cent to 20 per cent in a move local MP Cynthia Lui says is fantastic news for residents. “By increasing the subsidy

to 20 per cent, residents will receive even more cost of living relief at local shops,” she said. “The cost of freight to these communities means the cost of everyday, essential items is far more than comparable items in larger cities and towns.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said Ms Lui advocated strongly for the increase. “This increase to 20 per cent will have a big impact for locals,” he said. “By applying an increased discount percentage at the
