Torres Shire Council (TSC) was scheduled to hold their swearing-in ceremony for their new Mayor and Councillors tomorrow. At the time of printing 25 Queensland councils were fully declared, which

amounted to 226 declarations out of the 343 electoral contests for the local government elections, with counting continuing to finalise those outstanding. Preference distribution counts were being undertaken to determine final results after the deadline for postal votes for all regions, including the Torres Strait Island Regional Council, closed by Tuesday this week. Counting continued on Sunday.

Preference counts could only commence once all available ballot papers were on hand, including all postal ballots. Notification of declarations and declaration notices were available on the ECQ’s election results website at: http://results.elections.qld.gov.au/2024QLGE
