Traditional adoption office opens

BY CARLI WILLIS AND JEN ENOSA Traditional cultural adoptions can be legalised in Australian law in the privacy and comfort of a newly opened office on Waiben as of last week.
Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Leeanne Enoch gave a heartfelt speech at the opening, which she helped officiate. “I want to thank every one of you who have been on this journey, creating this
story here for Torres Strait Island families, but for all First Nations peoples across this country,” she said. “You have stepped into a new space for all of us. “It is one step in a bigger journey as we continue our Path to Treaty, as
we continue our path to truth-telling.”
