Maroon march vibes felt from Waiben to Suncorp A good and enthusiastic crowd turned up for this year’s “Maroon Army March” on State of Origin evening, marking 16 years since the event first started. “We started off with a minute’s silence remembering all our loved ones especially local members of our march who have gone before us,” organiser Elsie Seriat said. “This year we dedicated our march to our late Uncle Leo Brian Akee, also known as “Beziam”, one of our pioneers and long-term supporters. “Next year 2023 will be bigger and better in the lead up up to our 20 years.”

Youth Parliament under way today This week more than 80 students from across Zenadth Kes and the NPA are taking part in an interactive Youth Parliament run by the Queensland Parliament at the TI Sports Complex. Waybeni Buyway Ngurpay Mudh Head of Campus Rick Cass, who helped organisers bring the event

to the community, said whilst the students were a little nervous, they were also very excited. “We have students representing every school across the Torres Strait as well as eight students coming up from NPA,” he said. “Most are being accommodated with family here on TI, so on many

levels, this event is really bringing people together. “The students arrived earlier this week and will spend time rehearsing their prepared speeches before the big day today.” Mr Cass said he wished more people might have been able to attend the event, however with
