Komet Dance Troupe: Addie-Mae Day & Emily Day.

PNG goes to a general election on 4 July, after five tumultuous years, with more than 60 candidates standing in South Fly, including two women. Familiar faces in the campaign include former Kumul player Ipisa Wanega in Delta, former Assistant Foreign Minister Sali Subam and local Councillor Faulkingham Jogo in South Fly. Papua New Guinea is one of the few countries in the world with no women in parliament. Eight women are running across Western including two in South Fly, Joy Travertz for the People’s Progress Party and Seelagh Wuatai as an independent. There are questions about how fair and free the coming poll will be due to a lack of funding for the Electoral Commission, the electoral roll allegedly not fully updated and calls for calm from Prime Minister James Marape after violence claimed a number of lives. On the weekend, ballot papers printed in Australia arrived in PNG and Daru was among the first to receive theirs ahead of polling. They were delivered by an RAAF plane provided by Australia under a multimillion dollar aid program for the election. More than 300 PNG security personnel have been deployed in Western Province for the election, the majority in Kiunga in the North Fly and at the Ok Tedi mine. There is a total liquor ban across PNG for the duration of the polls. Continued PAGE 2 
