QRL Northern Division boss Scott Nosworthy was glowing in his praise of the running of the carnival. “My staff have advised that the weekend was a great success and ran very smoothly,” he said. “Congratulations to the committee, the volunteers and the QRL and NRL staff who assisted on the weekend to ensure this tremendous carnival at the top end of ABOVE: Mid-air, mid-try – Erub United’s Marlon Saylor in the early rounds. Queensland was another amazing event on the rugby league calendar.” Zenadth Kes Rugby League President Andrew Lui said the 25th year of the Cup carnival had been a success. “When it comes to footy carnival time, there’s a buzz and everybody goes to a different level, it brings communities together, families together, old and new player’s come together,” he said. “There’s always stories that start off with carnivals like this, such as great moments people will always remember and talk about for years to come.” He said they were mindful of COVID-19 throughout the carnival. “Considering there wasn’t a carnival last year because of COVID-19, we were mindful of the guidelines and being COVID safe,” he said. Mr Lui said there were several people to acknowledge, including Tagai Management Consultants for their sponsorship, and ZKRL committee members Melita Abednego and Rita Kebisu. “It has been a busy few months trying to get everything planned,” he said. “It’s exciting and comes with its challenges, but the team we have is very committed and we’ve managed to do a really good job getting everything together at the end of the day.”
