Bumper year for ships ahead Torres Shire Council Mayor Elsie Seriat welcomed cruise ship Viking Venus Master Captain Tony Fast (left) and his passengers to the Torres Strait last month. The ship was the last for 2024, but 2025 is already shaping up to be a bumper year for locals and tourists alike, with a massive 17 ships planning to make their stops here on Waiben. Council CEO Dalassa Yorkston said the forthcoming Tourism and Business Centre would further enhance the region’s appeal as a hub for economic activity and community events for the passing trade.
