Stinkwater residents refuse Hammanskraal water, demand Soshanguve pipes instead!

R

esidents of Ward 95 in Stinkwater are up in arms refusing water from Hammanskraal reservoir and demanding to be taken back to Soshanguve pipes, this after the water from Hammanskraal reservoir allegedly made them sick and was not safe

to drink.

According to the community Spokesperson, Zanele Ngcobo, the community’s water crisis dates back to August 31st 2020, with the community having exhausted all the possible steps in trying to get an amicable solution to their water woes.

“We asked for answers from our ‘community leader which led to excuses’ LEADING STORY so we decided to gather the community for a meeting to find the solution. We then got the information that the pipes where ruined

“Until I called a community meeting to boycott those water issues. But then we were promised water trucks but even today we are forced to drink the water cause those trucks don’t deliver,” explained Ngcobo.

When asked what the community would like the local government to do for them, Ngcobo emphasized, “We want them to remember the Batho Pele Principles. We have a right to clean, drinkable water”.

She said this before adding, “We ask to be taken back to Soshanguve reservoir.

This issue of them saying that in November it won’t work with us. People are getting sick each and everyday. We need clean water”.

Ngcobo further vowed that the current ruling party will not accumulate any votes in Ward 95 Stinkwater in the upcoming elections due to their poor service delivery.

She continued, “This shows that when the ruling party starts to get comfortable then they forget those people who voted news for them. I don’t think the currently ruling party will have any votes in this community.

esidents of Hammanskraal, who receive their water supply from the Babelegi Reservoir, are informed about a planned seven-day water supply interruption due to sealing repairs to be carried-out on the leaking reservoir structure.

According to Mbekwa’s statement, the ANC took to social media to request Mmakaunyane residents who were in desperate need of Smart Card IDs to converge at Mmakaunyane Disable Center where many people heeded to that call hoping to get their Smart Card IDs, however it turned out that all was just a lie.

Mbekwa recalled receiving lots of phone calls from desperate people who were promised Smart ID Cards by the ANC. “In my respond to a clarity seeking phone call from the

confused residents, arriving at the centre I met with the organiser who confirmed to me that there won’t be any process of IDs applications. It was a pity of sadness to see amongst attendees many elders who patiently waited for two consecutive days to process their Smart ID Cards applications.

“After learning that it was just a simple data collection exercise, I felt so offended by their irregular action of wasting our elder’s time by undermining our capabilities as public representatives,” said Mbekwa.

He further blasted both the local Councillors as well as Ward Committees for deploying the worst strategy of campaigning for the votes of the people of Mmakaunyane.

“With four local Councillors and two sets of Ward Committees as well as the Community Development politics Worker in the area, who could have employ door to door and social media communication system to Agenda to Citizenry Governors (ACG) Chief Governor, collect required data, but they chose Banganovha Mbekwa.

Mbekwa continued, “ACG strongly condemn this uncalled for behavior of fruitless and wasteful expenditure eminenting from using public resources for political activities, we are viewing this as much tantamount to power abuse”. Mbekwa confirmed that the ACG is going to file a case against ANC with the public protector to investigate and recommend.

A

fatal head-on collision accident with an A Re Yeng bus recently killed a TMPD officer, this was confirmed by The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) communication unit.

The accident occurred in the afternoon on the corner of Paul Kruger Street and Mansfield Avenue and claimed the life of

an off-duty officer who was deployed at special operations. This was according to Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba who is TMPD Spokesperson.

In a statement released by Mahamba, it was revealed that the officer passed away at the scene while the driver of the bus as well as four passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital.

Mahamba said the cause of the accident remained unknown at this stage.

“A case of culpable homicide was

opened and will be investigated further by the local South African Police Service (SAPS),” he said.

Mahamba further pleaded with anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact TMPD on 012 358 7095/6 or visit the nearest South African Police Service.

“TMPD is very saddened to lose one of its hard-working members. We would like to send heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

May his soul rest in peace,” concluded Mahamba.

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za Hercules police are calling on the public to avoid the Theo Martins Gateway near the Mabopane Highway, this plea by the police comes after two people were attacked in the area, where one of them was killed.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Captain

Bonginkosi Msimango.

Criminals are targeting unsuspecting Christians who use The gateway at a mountain pass, as a prayer location.

Msimango confirmed that a 57-year-old man was found dead on the mountain According to a witness, who wished to remain anonymous, the 57-year-old man was discovered at around 13:30.

“I was going to get things from the mountain for the church when I saw a body on the ground about 40m from me. I immediately went to the police station. Police arrived and declared the man dead”.

Msimango said the man seemed to have bled to death as he only suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

He said the man’s belongings, including his driver’s license and car keys were found several metres from the body.

“We found the man’s car, a white Fiat, parked on the side of the Mabopane highway. A murder case is being investigated,” said Msimango.

Last Thursday night, a 51-year-

old VIP protection officer was shot at the gateway after attending a prayer session with two women.

“They were approached by three men who then shot the man. The two women fled. The man is currently in ICU at Akasia Hospital,” Msimango said.

His brother, who asked not to be named, said the victim was shot as he refused to hand over his belongings.

“My brother was trying to hide his belongings from the three men. A fight ensued and that was when they shot him.

He is recovering well. He will be released from ICU soon,” he said.

Msimango warned the public of the mountain pass, as he said several murder cases have been reported.

“People should avoid going to that mountain or stopping on the Mabopane Highway. It seems many victims are shot but without any of their belongings being stolen. We have declared that area as very dangerous,” Msimango warned.

Makapanstad police is calling on members of the community to help in locating two missing men who were reported missing in two separate incidents.

The missing man in the first incident is 38-year-old Mojalefa Moleme who was reported missing on Tuesday, 29 September 2020, this after he failed to report for work since Monday, 28 September 2020.

Mojalefa was last seen on Sunday, 27 September 2020, wearing grey tekkies/ sneakers, a blue jean and t-shirt. He is of medium build and length, with brown eyes and a shaven head. He is driving a red UNO with registration number DGC 210 L.

local news Missing: Frans Letsholo Moima (45) Upon visiting his house in New stand, Swartdam, police found it unlocked and his cellular phone on his bed, while his vehicle was missing.

In the second incident, Frans Letsholo Moima (45), was reported missing on Wednesday, 30 September 2020. His last contact was telephonically with his nephew at 06:00 on Tuesday morning, 29 September 2020.

Moima’s cellular phone has been off since after the call. He is slender with brown eyes, black hair and of medium length. It is not certain what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed to The City Star that all gentlemen were still missing, however she revealed that Moima was reportedly spotted in the area the following day after being reported missing but his whereabouts are still unknown at the moment.

TUT students protest over accommodation allowances

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) students with the backing of Soshanguve landlords have embarked on a week-long protest over outstanding accommodation allowances as well as demanding the university to pay offcampus accommodations for students.

The protest which started the same day which students were supposed to attend face-to-face lectures for the first time since lockdown has escalated from Soshanguve to TUT Pretoria West campus with the students crying foul over the same demands.

The protest is led by students who despite coming from different political structures joined forces with the common agenda and interest.

According to Albert Myza Baloyi who is the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) Secretary, the students will not rest until their demands are met by the university management.

“Currently the demand is that we want the university to issue out accommodation allowance which was due from February, March, April and until now. That is the students’ demands. And also our students at Telkom Residence do not want to be moved out as the university wants them out so that the residence can be renovated, but the problem is that the accredited accommodation that the university wants to move the students to is not suitable for them. So as student leaders we do not want that to happen,” he explained.

Baloi further revealed that they had a meeting with the Student Representative Council (SRC) on Monday with the effort to find amicable solutions to their ongoing woes, however the meeting did not yield any desirable results.

“We have met with them but they want us to fill up those accredited residences first, but students are more concerned with who has been paying

education Currently the demand is that we want the university to issue out accommodation allowance which was due from February, March, April and until now. for accommodation fees before this notion of accredited residence. We want accommodation money from February until now, then from then onwards, we will decide on whether we will go to their accredited residences or not.

“We had a meeting with them on Monday and in that meeting they delayed with the response, saying they will reply us within two hours, but they never responded which leaves us no choice but to continue with the revolution until our demands are met,” added Baloi.

Language Practice student, Phinah Marotola lamented the protests for hindering the academic progress as all her classes had to be cancelled as a result of continued protests at the campus.

“Firstly I was supposed to start with my classes on Monday but I couldn’t attend because of the strike and all my classes were cancelled for the whole week.

Secondly, this thing is very bad because,

I’m doing advanced diploma and this is new in our course, as there’s no previous question paper and no notes at all.

“I don’t even have mark 1, so how am I going to get to mark 4 if there’s always strike at campus. This is delaying our plans. Not this after Covid-19. We have no time to lose. NSFAS should just provide students with those allowances like previous years,” she said.

Willa de Ruyter who is the TUT Spokesperson stressed out that it was widely communicated to students and the community at large that universityowned, leased and accredited residences should be occupied before private accommodation would be considered for allowances She said this before emphasizing that it was still realistic for last year students to use private accommodation, however due to sufficient space at TUT-owned, leased and accredited accommodation, students

have to fill them up first before opting for private off-campus accommodation.

She also confirmed that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will not pay for private accommodation for students who did not follow the prescribed processes to apply for private accommodation.

“Payment will remain their own responsibility. Private residences meant facilities where students stayed without involvement of the university,” she concluded.

On behalf of the landlords, Local Residential Student Association chairman, Nchawe Mutloane who was in support of the students’ protests said that students who were supposed to rent from them were now living in other places, further elaborating that as landlords, they renovated their homes to accommodate students and now they do not have any income.

Court rules in favour of SMU in land invasion case

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za ollowing people illegally occupying the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University land, the university has sought a court interdict to stop them from accessing the land it has plans to develop in the future.

In an effort to stop people from occupying its land, the university put up signs as well as demarcations on its private property which is along the Molotlegi Street in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 1, however all these efforts came to nothing as people continued to illegally occupy this land, leaving the university with no choice but to seek a Court Interdict to come to its rescue against illegal occupants.

The statement by the university’s ViceChancellor, Professor Peter Mbati read, “The university land situated on Molotlegi Street, Ga-rankuwa (Zone 1) has been illegally occupied by individuals who have allocated themselves portions thereof (plots). The private property boards mounted by the University were illegally removed, and during the end of June 2020, a number 9f structures were illegally on the SMU Land without the University’s consent”.

After structures were illegally erected on the SMU Land, the University quickly initiated an urgent application in the High Court to, amongst others, interdict illegal occupants from accessing SMU Land as well as ordering them to vacate from the same land.

“Following finalization of all the court papers, the case was set-down for hearing on 14th July 2020. A court order has been granted in favour of the university and is attached hereto for your information,” the statement continued.

With this massive court victory for the university, it was then decided that the university would secure the services of an eviction company which would help to remove both the temporary shelters and dwellers from

It was also decided that a security company would be appointed to guard the land, erect disclaimer signs and private property (No Trespassing) sign boards as well as to fence the piece of the land urgently.

In an interview with The City Star, University spokesperson Dr Eric Pule confirmed that the majority of the illegal occupants of the SMU land have vacated the area, further adding that only a handful of dwellers were still to vacate the land.

“After the court order, a lot of people who were illegally occupying the SMU land had vacated the area however there are only a few that are still left, they still need to remove their shacks and other structures at the land as it belongs to the university and the

university as you know, has plans such as building Accommodation residences for our students in that area because the university is growing,” said Pule.

Asked whether the university has managed to establish the people who were responsible for issuing out permits for people to occupy the land, Dr Pule said, “You know, in a community set-up it is never easy to find out the culprits, so in our engagements with the community we were unable to establish who was responsible for giving permission for people to occupy that private property, however if people paid those particular people or person any money to occupy the land, then they probably lost”.

Pule further thanked the community of Ga-rankuwa for their understanding as well as cooperation in finding

solutions pertaining to that piece of land.

“We are glad that the community understands that the university has plans for that land, we have been in engagements with them about our plans and we are looking at all possible means of living together because a university is not a university on its own, it is a university because of them, the people. So we have to engage and work together,” he concluded.

Some homeowners said they were fearful of losing their homes, as they had forked out close to R75 000 for pieces of land and built houses with money they had saved.

“It’s scary to hear about the demolitions. What makes us feel secure are the officials who assured us all is above board.”

New vehicle fleet to boost service delivery in Tshwane

These new vehicles, which are part of the City of Tshwane’s strategic Fleet Management Division replacement programme, have stateof- the-art equipment and the latest professional’s tools on the market.

Tshwane Head Administrator Mpho Nawa said during the launch of fleet that the vehicles were purchased so that the City can continue providing effective and efficient services unabated.

“As we take possession of this fleet, we want to give our communities an undertaking that these vehicles will be put to good use and for purposes of providing effective and efficient services.

I want to also urge our employees to treat these vehicles with utmost care as our resources are already overstretched.

State Theatre reopens doors in Heritage fashion SOSHTIMES

T

he South African State Theatre (SAST) announced recently that it was ready to welcome back audiences after the long halt by the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent national lockdown in the country.

To welcome back its audiences, the Theatre is set to host a ‘Live in An Evening of Folklore’ concert which will run for two nights, starting on the night of 30 and ending on the night of 31 October 2020, where audiences would be dazzled by performances by the Heritage enthusiast and revered musician Mbuso Khoza and band amongst others.

The theatre’s decision to reopen doors follows the easing of the COVID-19 National Lockdown Regulations to Alert Level 1 by government.

Like any other industries in the country, the SAST has had its doors closed to audiences since government imposed a national lockdown back in March. The result saw the theatre resort to taking its theatre programme online to not only entertain its audiences but to also offer relief to artists.

The project which boasts over 50

Erick Ndala, PR and Marketing Manager at The South African State Theatre told The City Star about the theatre’s state of readiness in regards to the upcoming concert.

“We are ready. Everything is coming together so well at the moment. All Covid-19 regulations would be followed

and adhered to at the concert. People will wear masks, there will be a certain number of people allowed in the theatre and there will be sanitizing and screening at the door before entering,” said Ndala.

He also shed some light on the progress relating to ticket sales, before assuring potential attendees that they will have the time of their lives on the day of the concert.

“So far so good in terms of tickets

sale, they are selling fast and there’s only a limited number of them left for the concert. People have been waiting for so long to be in the theatre and witness live performances and other breathtaking activities, so we are still promising them an experience like no other on the day of the concert. They must come and enjoy themselves while being caution and adhering to all Covid-19 regulations,” he concluded.

Stinkwater residents destroy crime hotspots SOSHTIMES

Criminals hide behind the bushes and rob them of their belongings and kill them

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za n an effort to curb the alarming and increasing number of criminal activities in Stinkwater, residents took it upon themselves, embarking on a mission to clear and destroy bushes where they believe criminals hide and prey on vulnerable and unsuspecting residents.

The initiative was started in the wake of finding two dead male bodies in Six Bridge on the 31 August 2020 and 11 September 2020 respectively.

After these gruesome discoveries by community members, former councillor, Aaron Maluleka also joined hands and supported the initiative to cut the bushes near the dam so that it can be in the open for everyone to see what was happening around them at all times.

In their desperate quest to combat the criminal activities in the area, community members also came up with the idea of establishing a soccer field just near the dam so that it can remain in the open, it was also decided that residents would spend day cutting and clearing the bushes around the dam.

In another similar incident, community members were crying foul of increased criminal activities taking place in Hammanskraal just between Jubilee Mall and Hammanskraal train station where vulnerable people fall victims of crimes as and when they make their way through the bushes from various destinations such as work and school.

Willy Kgopa who is one of the organizers of the initiative, bemoaned the bushes for sheltering the criminals and by cutting them, he believed would contribute to

“The similar exercise of cutting the bushes is in Hammanskraal between Jubilee mall and Hammanskraal station, members of the community come back from work through the bushes that crosses the railway line of Hammanskraal, on that road the criminals hide behind the bushes and rob them of their belongings and kill them.

“One woman lost her life and the community of Hammanskraal decided to clean the bushes in that area and when they were busy cleaning, they picked up an Identity Document and a wrist watch,” he said.

Kgopa also shed some light on what the police had to say in relation to all the bodies that were found in those bushy crime hotspots.

“The information we have at the

moment from the police is that the first body that was found in the river was from a local guy.

They told us that he was from one of our local areas here. But the other one who was found on the 11th of September, we haven’t heard anything about his details,” he said this before revealing that they have established various Community Policing Forums in communities in an effort to combat crimes in the area.

Kgopa further urged the local government to also assist them in the fight against crime and their quest to keep residents safe in various communities.

“We would really appreciate the support from the City in this fight, we do most of the things from our own pockets.

For instance, when we were cleaning the bushes recently, people like former councillor Maluleka and I had to contribute our own money to buy food, water and

cigarettes for those who are smokers to get cigarettes while working.

“So what we really need from the City of Tshwane is to get a TLB that will help us destroy the Bush because we don’t have protecticve gear to work there, so you find that a woman is trying to cut a tree and in the process she gets injured,” he explained.

Kgopa also called on all community members to come in numbers on the Day to ensure that all the crime hotspots were destroyed for the benefit of the residents as a whole.

“Our message to our residents is that our safety in the community is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone should be responsible for each and every community member’s safety in the community. If we have to work for our own safety in the community on while others would be rejoicing and celebrating the day, then so be it,” he concluded.

Mogajane takes Art industry by storm despite disability

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za Despite being blind, Calvin Mogajane from Soshanguve is making strides in the creative art industry, having three books to his name and producing documentaries that are aired on SABC 2.

The 22-year old who was born with glaucoma which caused him to lose his sight at birth has managed against all odds to publish his first book at the tender age of 16.

On the motivation behind writing, Mogajane revealed that his love for radio led him to uncovering the possibility of becoming an author through radio presenter Happiness Maake of Thobela FM on one of his show.

He explained that Maake at the time was reading an extract from the book called ‘Down Second Avenue’ which planted the seed and a strong desire to become an author.

Mogajane said, “After that show, the writing was all I could think about”.

Shortly after listening to that lifechanging motivational topic by Maake,

Mogajane did not waste any time, putting pen to paper, writing a short story immediately at school and later taking it to the publisher who loved the piece and went on and published it.

“I wrote a story at school and when I got home I read it to my twin brother and he re-wrote the story with a pen and paper and we later took the book to a publisher who loved it and published it,” said Mogajane.

He emphasised that writing books turned his life around, further adding that he would one day like to open the first blind person publishing company where every blind person would be able to express themselves through writing without fears of being discouraged nor judged.

I had my fair share of disappoints and discouragements in my writing journey but I believe that the only true disability in the world, is a bad attitude,” he added.

Mogajane was also invited to Thobela Fm’s Ditlalemeso program recently to share his journey of writing and his disability in the time of the Coronavirus pandemic.

LOCAL NEWS Calvin Mogajane from Soshanguve Many listeners were touched and encouraged by Mogajane’s story, with many calling him a true definition of persevering against all odds.

Pebetsi Malatji who was listening to the interview took to the station’s Facebook page under the Ditlalemeso program and wrote, “This young lad is lively and has a bright future ahead. He must keep up

the good work and continue encouraging others that disability is not an inability”.

Peter Madibela said, “I would like to wish Calvin everything of the best, he is a real inspiration, he has got talent and abilities. He must keep up the good work he is doing”.

Sosh FM presenter confident of next breakthrough

He shaped our current affairs content in a way that when you are listening, you would feel that you are listening to mainstream radio

hen the name ‘ M o s e s Moonwe’ comes up, radio listeners in and around Soshanguve remember their vibrant and analytical Talk show host whose thought-provoking and unique take on burning issues kept them glued to their radio sets since last year.

After joining the TUT Fm team as an intern from the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) in 2019, the ‘King of Airwaves’ as he is affectionately known to his listeners, bossed the 18h00 – 19h00 weekdays slots as the host of Live at 6, bringing his interrogative, diverse and unique analysis to critical issues affecting community members on a daily basis.

The 26-year-old has been dubbed the next big thing in the Media Industry specifically radio broadcasting due to his calmness and ability to maneuver his way to the root of critical issues with ease, once more serving as the voice of the listeners and representing the interests of the masses.

During his tenure at the station, the Giyani-born has managed to hold powerful officials to account, punching above weight, with the best interest of the masses listening at home being top of the agenda at all times.

“In my radio journey I have done various stories and interviews, I have interviewed leaders such as Gauteng MEC Dr Bandile Masuku, the Gauteng Premier David Makhura and his Spokesperson Vuyo

His former boss and mentor at the TUT Radio station, Kedibone Mahapa, spoke highly of Moonwe’s work ethics as well praising his contribution to the station’s current affairs show.

“He has been well groomed and I can confidently say he is ready for the big challenge. He had passed the test. Out of 100, I give him 90%. When we talk ethics he was already competent when he joined the station. He has contributed immensely on our current affairs content and he was willing to listen when he was being guided.

“He shaped our current affairs content in a way that when you are listening, you would feel that you are listening

to mainstream radio. It is sad that he is leaving but I would advice him to continue practising radio until his skills get noticed,” said Mahapa, before wishing Moonwe well in his future endeavors.

His former Radio Production lecturer, Vukosi Baloyi also shared his observation and opinion of Moonwe in the radio journey.

“As a former mentor, I am very proud of him. Of all the things we did in class, I think he has gone all out to do more research about the radio industry. He has grown tremendously confident behind the mic. Or for a lack of a better word, he is maturing very well.

“Any future employer would be happy to work with him, because of his dedication.

He can make a meaningful growth to any radio station that he can join,” said Baloyi.

Proteas wrap up Diamond Challenge title defence

The SPAR Proteas sealed the defence of their Diamond Challenge netball tournament title in style this weekend with a 73-44 victory over Zimbabwe at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex.

The week-long tournament witnessed the Proteas dominate the tournament from start to finish. Despite being given a tough challenge by Zambia on Friday and Zimbabwe on Saturday, the Proteas managed to win all their matches by more than 20 goals.

In Saturday’s encounter, Zimbabwe fought hard from the start and put up some decent defence, but the Proteas still managed to notch up a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Zim defence stood solid throughout the game, but mistakes started creeping into their mid-court play, meaning that the turnover count kept rising thanks to an outstanding performance

At half-time, on 34-18 after a repeat of the first quarter scores, and while the third period was a far closer one –17 goals to 15 – the Proteas ran away with it in the final 15 minutes. They earned turnovers with regularity and were too quick on the counterattack for the Zimbabweans, opening up the winning margin to 29 goals.

‘It’s such a good feeling. I think the scoreline doesn’t really mean much. What’s means much is what we put on court today,’ said SA captain Bongi Msomi, who was later named Player of the Tournament. ‘On Friday we weren’t satisfied with what we did, so today the plan was to go out hard and implement our strategies.

It’s been really amazing. As usual, there’s always room to grow, but this was a great performance. I’m really proud of the girls.’

Proteas head coach Norma Plummer was happy with the strong finish, with the Proteas using this tournament to prepare for next year’s Quad series, where they will face opposition such as New Zealand and England.

‘I put the girls under a lot of pressure because I was introducing different strategies and tactics for them, and I wanted them to implement them on court. Some of it came off really well, some struggled a bit.

Mashiane who is currently doing trade at the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy is one of the few youngers who are flying the Soshanguve flag high on a national football stage.

"Laliga" as he is affectionately referred to by football fanatics in and around Soshanguve, the midfield maestro has impressed in the Brazilian colours in the highly competitive MultiChoice Diski Challenge League before the abrupt disruption of the novel Coronavirus which has seen all sporting activities coming to an end across the globe.

Known for his calmness on the ball, Mashiane has become

an instrumental part of the Masandawana Reserve side, with the youngster's ability to cool down the tempo of the game when oppositions look to attack.

Mashiane's hardwork and dedication at club level did not go unrecognized, this after the 19-year old bagged a national team call-up to represent the Amajita in the COSAFA All Africa Games tournament in Rabat, Morocco.

As one of his highlights, Mashiane managed to score his first ever goal in the national team set-up on his debut, when the South African u20 side was battling it out against Nigeria, an encounter which ended 2-1 in favour of Nigeria on the day.

"It is absolutely unexplainable. It was just pure happiness. It was my first time playing outside the country, my first ever national team callup and I managed to score an equalizing goal. The feeling was just too much. I was

overwhelmed with emotions," Mashiane recounted.

He also added that playing outside the country for the first time was a bit scary at first for him however he managed to gather the courage as time went on.

"I was scared, I don't want to lie. But at the same time I was happy and excited for the opportunity to represent my country and to showcase my talent on a national level.

The call-up really helped me to challenge myself beyond measures. I learned a lot from the tournament as well as Morocco as a country. The people there help one another and are always united which is something I feel we can learn from them as a country. To be helpful to one another at all times," he added.

Mashiane also highlighted one of the challenges he is facing at the academy as adapting to the style of play.

"The thing is I am naturally an attacking midfielder, but at

the academy I play defensive midfield and sometimes centre back. I still have to adjust to these positions and improve on them. As a footballer you must be versatile and coachable so that you can be able to execute any role given to you in the field," he said.

With Covid-19 taking centre stage and disrupting lower-tier divisions, Mashiane revealed to our sister paper The City Star how the pandemic affected him as a footballer.

He said, "Covid-19 has really affected me a lot especially in terms of fitness. I was used to training from Monday to Friday and playing games on weekends but since this pandemic all that set-up has changed. We are required to train on our own and it is not easy. Personally, I like to train with the ball and not just by running. So it is a major challenge but we were given a training program that we have to follow while we are at home and we are following it to keep fit".

Mashiane whose dream is to one day play for FC Barcelona in Spain is currently doing his second year in Coaching Science, proving once again that football as a career needs to be backed with education.

On the standard of football in Soshanguve, Mashiane said that there were a lot of quality players however he felt that most of the good players have turned to drugs and alcohol, which set them back in terms of achieving their goals.

He also had some words of wisdom for young players who look up to him and would also want to play football professionally one day in their lives.

"My advice to them is, just because you are not playing for any academy, it does not mean your life is over. Just keep working hard wherever you are, be it during practice sessions or match day, you will never know who is watching you.
