The first R15 000 of the market value of all residential properties is legislatively impermissible for the charging of property rates, and a further valuation reduction of R135 000 is granted by the City for charging property rates. All residential properties are thus not charged any property rates on the first R150 000 of the value and registered indigents pay no property rates. Furthermore, the social package is extended to all properties valued at R150 000 and below. The residential tariff is the baseline tariff, which determines the ratios of some of the other tariffs. The rate ratio of residential to agricultural and public benefit organisations is legislatively determined to be 1:0,25. 2

Two nabbed with illegal firearm after committing armed robbery
Rietgat SAPS Acting Station Commander, Colonel Dinah Tabane commended the swift response of the police and expressed her gratitude to those community members who called the police. “I would like to thank our members for a swift response, otherwise we could be talking about something else. If they came a minute later the situation could have turned bad and we would be opening a murder case, hence we discourage and condemn vigilantism. I would also like to commend community members who saw it fit not to take the law into their hands but to call us as the police,” Colonel Tabane said. Colonel Tabane added that the battle of getting rid of illegal firearms continues and it can only be won through community assistance.”We can only remove illegal firearms through collaboration with the community. If you notice a suspicious-looking person carrying a firearm, inform us so that we can arrest them and make sure that we live in a safer environment without any fear,” Colonel added. We generate funds through each player’s contribution. With tournaments taking place currently, Scamlom United FC is unable to feature in most of them due to financial difficulties. “ Come and see how good we are, the potential we have is galore. There was a fire outbreak at one of the new stand houses in Stinkwater Hammanskraal. The fire took place during the day and it was loadshedding at the time the fire occurred. There was no one in the house by the time the fire started. As it is a double storey structured house the windows on the top floor started cracking and breaking.“Iwas outside of the house when I started hearing windows break, therefore I looked up as the house is a double storey structured, I saw smoke then I tried getting inside the house to try to stop the fire but it was too late”, said Guilty Mohaba The community helped to stop the fire with buckets of water until the fire extinguishers came to stop the fire. A lot of things have been damaged in the house , such as furniture but some of the possessions were restored, Said Mohaba “In terms of fire in communities, the department of community safety needs to do awareness campaigns as they used to do and work with other departments to find out what’s the cause of the fire. It will help prevent other dangerous incidents that can occur in the future, said the councillor of ward 13, Sonia Mabolawa Guilty Mohaba added that the fire had impacted them badly as they have lost a lot of possessions and they are stressed on how the house will be renovated since they had no insurance. She said she would like to be helped with the reparations of the house and the basic needs that were damaged.
