Drug bust with street value of more than R500 000

LEADING STORY

An extensive drug bust was made by the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s (TMPD) Drug Unit in Hammanskraal. There were four suspects between the ages of 35 and 50 arrested for allegedly possessing crystal meth, heroin, and cat worth an estimated R550 000. At the moment, the suspects are being held at Hammanskraal and Temba police stations.

After receiving a tipoff, the Drug Unit conducted an operation and went to the reported address. They found a bakery that was being used as a front to package drugs. While they were there, the owner arrived with crystal meth that needed to be packaged. The

Drug Unit members searched him and found more drugs in his vehicle.

As the MMC for Community Safety, I want to thank and applaud the members of the Drug Unit for their continued efforts to rid our streets of the scourge of drugs. Many communities in Tshwane face a daily struggle with the crippling effects that these substances have on their users, who are often young and

vulnerable. Those who are either directly or indirectly affected by drug and substance abuse, kindly note that the City runs a 24-hour toll-free helpline to provide support for matters related to substance abuse. This helpline can be contacted at 0800 611 197 or 0800 467 347.

“I also want to issue a strong warning to drug dealers that the TMPD Drug Unit is taking the battle head-on and we will not rest

Suspects arrested for allegedly possessing Crystal meth, Heroin, and a Cat.

until we get rid of this scourge,” Said MMC.

“ Residents who want to report drug-related crime can contact the South African Police Service at 10111 or the TMPD on 012 358 709517096,” Added MMC.

NGO’s build house for Winterveldt family

The Collen Mashawana and Mampeule Foundation have partnered in building a home for a family of 22 members in Winterveldt. The Ngomeni family live in an unsafe dilapidated structure situated in Ward 9 for many years and had lost all hope. The family depends on SASSA grants for survival as there is no one working, and both the mother and grandmother need to provide for all nine children and seven grandchildren. All the children do not go to school.

Identifying the family is Tshwane Social Development MMC Peggy De Bruin, who called on businesspeople to partner in building a home for the family.

The family survives on Social Grant and all the kids do not go to school. Accompanied by City of Tshwane Social Development MMC Peggy De Bruin, we had lunch with the family, helped the construction team and gave the family comfort.

Visiting the family is Motshabi Ntsoelengo head of marketing at Collen Mashawana foundation who described the situation as one terrible living conditions.

The state of the house shows that it has been damaged by the heavy rains. “The old structure the family stayed in has been demolished because the structure was not too strong,” said Ntsoelengo

We have done a partnership to assist the family, the foundations immediately moved the family to a safer place so that they can start the project of building a safe, welcoming house for them. “The family was happy and will be able to express their full emotions on the day the house is handed over to them” added Ntsoelengo.
