While confirming that no suspects have been arrested as yet, Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele detailed the moments leading up to the fatal attack of the six suspects in Ga-rankuwa where they were called about vigilantism which was said to be happening at the house around 22:00.

According to Makhubela, there were about 300 community members from Garankuwa gathered just outside the house where the suspects were said to be hiding.

Devastated mother of a 19 year old who died at the hands of the community narrated the ordeal, emphasizing that no mother deserved to see her child dying in such a cruel manner.

“These children were staying in phase 1 and I decided to get them this house because they were being accused of criminal activities. The people he was with inside the house were his cousins. I am not OK, no mother deserves to see her child die like that,” said the grieving mother.

he Tshwane Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu introduced the new Station Commander of Rietgat Police Station Brigadier Molatelo Albert Maphoto at Rietgat .

During the introduction of the new sheriff in town, Brigadier Nkhwashu told the Rietgat's Management that the new Commander is a foot soldier who has been in the game for a while and occupies the position with a wealth of experience.

three decades in the South African Police Service. He cut his teeth in the ruthless streets of Johannesburg and Soweto where he started his policing career back in 1992 as a student Constable and worked his way up through different ranks to the level of a Brigadier.

He is passionate about crime prevention and a people-centric commander who puts the interests of the community before his own. He is very meticulous,

dedicated and determined to combat crime within the Rietgat's precinct.

The Brigadier unequivocally promises the community of Rietgat that his mission is to fight crime.

He succinctly indicated his intentions and said: "My mandate is clear... Is to combat crime and nothing else," said Brigadier Maphoto.

The Vispol Commander, Brigadier Thine thanked Colonel Stephina Nkosi for the job well done during her tenure as the Station Commander of Rietgat.

He expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Colonel who has been at the helm of the station and said: "You have steered the Rietgat's ship under difficult conditions and we thank you very much for everything you have done for the police station, " Said Thine.

The Community Policing Forum's Chairperson Mr Molefe Tau was also present with his executive committee and welcomed the new Station Commander and vowed to support him on his new journey.

MEC Faith Mazibuko engages Ga-Rankuwa residents

By Tebogo Senosha In her quest to ensure safety, MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko who was accompanied by local police, met with stakeholders from GaRankuwa, to discuss safety issues which were affecting them in the community.

Mazibuko’s visit sought to allow community representatives as well as stakeholders an opportunity to raise their safety concerns in their respective areas as well as coming up with possible interventions to maintain safety and order in various communities.

With drugs in GaRankuwa being on top of the charts, Mazibuko demanded that all addresses of the houses which were known to be selling drugs to be written down on a piece of paper so that proper actions could be taken against them.

Members of the community used the opportunity to voice their concerns to the MEC about the alarming number of criminal activities which had taken place consistently since April this year.

Various stakeholders and representatives also blasted the local police for not acting swiftly to their complaints and demanded a change in attitude from the men and women in blue.

After getting blueticked by the police while marching to the local police station to hand over their memorandum of grievances earlier this year, Ga-Rankuwa residents escalated their complaints to MEC Mazibuko in writing, requesting an urgent meeting to discuss their issues and coming up with solutions to their problems.

Acting police district commissioner, Brigadier Mabangwa Nkwashu who was also part of the MEC’s intervention applauded members of the community for standing for their rights and ensuring that members of law enforcement were held accountable for their actions.

“The communication officer also needs to communicate more with residents so they are aware of the operations happening in the station.

“This would ensure residents knew that the police were actively combating crime. Police operations have increased since residents delivered their memorandum in May,” said Nkwashu.

Residents were also not happy with the services of Ga-Rankuwa station commander Brigadier Junior Lehabe-Metsi and complained to Nkwashu about his competence.

However, Nkwashu assured unhappy residents that they had measures in place to monitor the performance of the police through a performance enhancement plan and members of the community should not be worried.

Also in attendance was Ward 30 councillor Violet Phalwane who emphasized that crime was on a high in Ga-Rankuwa and needed urgent intervention.

She said, “We need to take charge as the community to make sure we combat crime which affects all of us, so we need to stand up as the community and stop it”.

In conclusion, Phalwane welcomed all the recommendations made by the MEC, further dubbing the meeting fruitful with the hope that crime would decrease significantly in the area after the MEC’s intervention.

The City of Tshwane Mayor Cllr Randall Williams, alongside Community and Development Services MMC Thabisile Vilakazi, visited region 1 for an oversight visit.

Klipgat Waste Water Treatment Plant was one of the areas the officials paid a visit.

“It is part of the whole plan with the Mayor to conduct oversight visits to all seven regions in Tshwane. “Region 1 is the biggest region in Tshwane when it comes to km, naturally there are more challenges in this region." said Vilakazi.

The Klipgat Waste Water project started in January 2021. Vilakazi said the purpose of the project is to restore the vandalised wastewater treatment plant to its wastewater treatment capacity. She said the project will be completed in July 2022, and the wastewater discharged from the plant into the Tolwane River should improve upon completion.

The local councilors and community members joined the MMC'S and Mayor in the oversight visit.

Community members told the Tshwane officials their grievances.

The community showed them where they would like them to also fix and look into in the area. They were very happy that the officials intervened and they are hands on in the area.

Some of the community members were worried that their taps will run dry during the whole project.

By Tebogo Senosha editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has heeded the call to educate people and create awareness especially in townships about burning issues such as Gender-based Violence, alcohol and substance abuse, road safety as well as #Covid-19 awareness.

The outreach program which recently took place in Garankuwa mall and Zone 16 was spearheaded

by Gauteng Community Safety officials as well as the members of the local police station.

According to Hlulani Mashaba, who is the Acting Deputy Director for Media Relations at the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, the outreach program was a success and it has achieved the intended outcome.

"The area is rife with the use of alcohol and substance abuse, gender based violence incidents and lack of adherence to Covid-19 health protocols. We managed to make the community aware of the dangers of not adhering to the Covid-19 health protocols and lockdown regulations.

We also handed safety pamphlets for ease of reference and urged them to report any form of criminality to the police," said Mashaba.

Mashaba further indicated that through the outreach program in Ga-Rankuwa, the community was empowered and delighted to see government in action.

"It is through these programs that we can make an impact in our communities".

Despite the outreach program's plausible success and impact, Mashaba also elaborated on some challenges that they encountered in Ga-Rankuwa.

"We have noticed that there are few people who still disregard the Disaster Management Act regulations, and therefore from time to time, it is critical that we educate them on such issues," he added.

Mashaba spoke strongly against Gender Based Violence in townships and highlighted the need for government to take awareness to townships and educate communities

about the importance of protecting women and children.

He said, "It is important because women's rights have been violated for by their loved ones and strangers alike. Therefore it is important that we educate our communities to be protectors of women and children in their respective spaces. Gender based violence cannot continue unabated.

Together, we can put an end to this scourge and demon that is terrorising our communities.

"We have in recent times enlisted Gender-Based Violence Brigades to ensure they conduct door to door to create awareness on the impact of gender-based violence. These Brigades are also there in Ga-Rankuwa. This is one of our concerted efforts to fight the scourge of gender-based violence.

Also worth noting, the Department is currently rolling out Green Doors in most communities. Green Doors are safe sites that are situated within five kilometres to the local police station. They assist with emotional containment, trauma debriefing and referral to the nearest police station".

Asked whether the Criminal Justice System was doing enough to punish perpetrators of Gender Based Violence, Mashaba responded, "The Criminal Justice System is doing something, however there is more work that still needs to be done to rid our communities of crime. It is important that harsher sentences are given to perpetrators of GBV, that will send a strong message that Gauteng has no place for perpetrators of violence against women and children".

Mashaba also urged men who were victims of Gender Based Violence to speak up just like their female counterparts.

"Men must also speak up as well.

I urge them to join safety structures such as Men As Safety Promoters at their local police stations to ensure that they join a social movement in the fight against crime. Men are also within their right to report any element of abuse to their local police station," he concluded.

Police have issued a warning about the dangers of sexting

Hammanskraal water woes deepens ActionSA blasted the City of Tshwane Mayor, Councillor Randall Williams for not taking the water crisis issue seriously and not treating it as a priority

eople of Hammanskraal have been crying foul of being subjected to dirty and unsafe water for close to two decades now and their woes seem far from being over.

This after residents complained of the water coming out of taps with human faeces in it. Traumatized residents feared for their lives as the water was clearly not safe for human consumption and are pleading with the government to hear their outcry and solve this water crisis that has been going on for a long time.

In the absence of City of Tshwane administration, ActionSA under the leadership of Abel Tau, has taken once again a step forward to visit the community Hammanskraal, after the renewed reports of the worsening water crisis in the area.

ActionSA blasted the City of Tshwane Major, Councillor Randall Williams for not taking

ActionSA continued to emphasize that Williams is not taking the people of Hammanskraal seriously. the water crisis issue seriously and not treating it as a priority.

In a statement, ActionSA said, “As the people of Hammanskraal continue to suffer, the “Ghost Mayor” is nowhere to be found, ensuring access to quality service delivery to this community, and others like it, is not high on his agenda. In April this year, ActionSA commissioned an independent community-led inquiry into the Hammanskraal water crisis.

“In its report, the Commission of Inquiry found that the City of Tshwane was insensitive and irresponsive to the plight of the community. Further, Cllr Williams and his administration were marked by delinquent inertia on this 16-year-old water crisis.

Indeed, Williams refused to even meet with the community on the issue”.

ActionSA continued to emphasize that Williams did not take the people of Hammanskraal

seriously and will try to spindoctor his way out of the worsening situation that they are faced with everyday.

Trying to come up with solutions for the people of Hammanskraal, ActionSA has suggested that an immediate plan must be implemented that will provide safe and drinkable water to residents.

According to ActionSA, the implementation of this plan, needs to be done through the urgent

provision of additional water tankers to the area, providing free access to water. They suggested that the city must also clearly communicate a crisis management plan that would allow residents to get access reliably, safely, and urgently to water.

The party expressed its concerns over Williams’ continuous response to the plight of Hammanskraal in a casual manner, while the health and wellbeing of residents were at stake.

They provide City of Tshwane Major with 90 days to meaningfully respond to the findings from the Commission of Inquiry report.

“Should he fail to provide a clear solution for the crisis in the stated timeframe, we will not hesitate to pursue available legal avenues to force the City to execute its mandate to promote and protect residents’ Constitutional rights to clean, safe drinking water,” concluded ActionSA in a statement.

Winterveldt councillor urges locals to vaccinate

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za Following numerous reports of low and unsatisfactory attendance from Winterveldt residents in vaccination sites, ward 24 councillor, Chris Masia has urged people in townships to take advantage of the vaccination sites opened in their areas and ensure that they get the jab.

Masia revealed to Tshwane Bulletin that it has been a while since they have started with the vaccination rollout in Winterveldt, having started in Thulahanyo Middle School as well as at Dube Clinic.

However, despite having brought vaccination sites closer to the people, Masia expressed concerns over the low number of people of Winterveldt who go to the sites to get vaccinated.

“The numbers are very low.

We are not happy with the number of people who voluntarily go to our vaccination sites to get the jab. It is very disappointing, it’s like you are expecting 50 people and only 20 people show up. It’s unsatisfactory,” said Masia.

Asked what may be the cause of people being reluctant to go to vaccination sites to get vaccinated, Masia blamed fake rumours that were making rounds on social media, claiming that vaccines were not safe and that people would die in the next two years due to the vaccines.

“There are fake news circulating around, scaring our people not to take the vaccines.

Some people are claiming that the vaccines will reduce one’s lifespan to just 2 years. All these rumours are not true as the vaccines are

One of the people who already managed to vaccinate, Frans Moabelo recalled how difficult it was for him to finally take the bold decision to get the jab.

“It is not easy to just decide to vaccinate. Especially with all the rumours we hear about the vaccines. They can make you change your mind even when you wanted to vaccinate. We hear of stories of people who died immediately after coming back from vaccinations.

Some according to these rumours, became extremely sick after getting the jab. So with such news making rounds, one can become uncomfortable with the idea of vaccinating, “ he said.

However, Moabelo urged people to follow their instincts and do what was right both for themselves and their loved ones.

“We all know these vaccines are not compulsory, however people must remember that they are our only known and proven weapons against Covid-19.

So to protect ourselves and our loved ones, the best thing to do, no matter how uncomfortable it may be, it is to get the jab. In this way, you will be contributing towards curbing the spread of this highly infectious virus,” added Moabelo.

In an effort to change the negative perspective on vaccines, Masia has called on all leaders to take the vaccines themselves and lead by example to ordinary citizens who look up to them.

Since the government has given a green light to young people aged 18 and above to take the vaccine, the councillor also had some words of encouragement for them.

“Young people must understand that taking the vaccine is the only way to save lives at the moment and the future is in their hands. They must take responsibility to protect themselves and others as well,” said Masia.

He further reminded people that the only requirement to get vaccinated was an Identity Document, then the officials would profile you on the site to ensure that you get the jab.

By Kelebogile Rakgolela Kgaugelo Mohlala, is a community builder from Soshanguve Block K, and is taking a giant leap big to bring change in her community of Ward-34.

She has been volunteering and lending a helping hand in the community for over 10 years.

Mohlala is a member of newly formed ActionSA Political Party and she is also the Campaign Manager.

She said it is time for change and the community needs a party and a ward councillor that will prioritise the community.

“ActionSA has plans to make sure that our people get service delivery by focusing on the 7 pillars. Being a Ward councillor would enable me to make a big impact in the community. I am a hands-on leader and have a proactive approach to my work.

embers of Gender Based Violence Brigade marched to the Temba Magistrate Court demanding justice for slain 22 year-old teen Mpho Mahlangu Members of Gender Based Violence Brigade were up in arms over the tragic death of Mpho Jane Mahlangu (22) and held a protest outside the Themba magistrate court near Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria recently demanding successful prosecution of murder accused Joshua Baloi.

Mpho Jane Mahlangu died after allegedly being brutally beaten by Joshua Baloi during the 21st of May 2021.

The accused was released with a bail amount of R1000; the Mahlangu family was deeply disappointed and never at peace. They were hoping that justice will take place; instead they went back home with tears and less of hope. The case was postponed to the 19th of October 2021 reason being that the court is still waiting for the postmortem results.

One of her strategies in bringing change in her community is to prioritise and invest in the youth. She said many young people sit at spaza shop corners and are not employed thus affecting their daily lives. Mohlala

believes that she can be able to partner with different stakeholders and help the youth not only of Ward34 but many people.

“Through capacitating the youth, Ward-34 in Soshanguve will have better infrastructure, better schools, better access to technology

and a great future. I am fully motivated and eager to serve in the big role of ward councillor in my community.

I will always be transparent and make sure decisions are taken together through constant engagements with the people of Ward-34,” said Mohlala.

By Tebogo Senosha Mabopane Block E outfit, Maa Waa Football Club have gained promotion to the SAFA Tshwane SAB Regional League, this after dismantling Winterveldt’s City Rocks Football Club in the highly contested Promotional Playoffs held at Mamelodi recently.

Reflecting on the team’s journey building up to their ultimate triumph, Deputy Chairman, Letlhogonolo Mokoena indicated that it was not an easy journey as there were challenges that they needed to overcome.

“The journey was very tough I must say, from the beginning of the season we fought very hard until the end. One of the challenges that we faced was the issue with transport when coming to attend away games, it was a bit hard since 80% of the team members are unemployed but we managed to be on time always. Our LFA is the best LFA in Pta in terms of support. They try very hard in developing local teams,” said Mokoena.

He further praised players for their hard work and for remaining united throughout the season, also adding that their promotion

to SAB League will impact positively on the standard of football in their community.

Strong relationships can evolve when coaches, managers and players spend a lot of time together and work toward a common goal,” he added.

Mokoena also revealed their intentions to maintain their status in the SAB League, this he said, by being competitive and bolstering their squad with the best players around.

He said, “SAB is a very competitive league and we going to give our all. Through financial support we plan to get the best players all around, so transport remains the biggest issue but we will do fine. By strengthening our squad to be better

than before surely that will ensure that we maintain our status”.

Speaking on behalf of the Champions, Maa Waa Football Club, Mokoena thanked the community for their unwavering support throughout the season, further committing to empower young people in the community through sports.

“Our first and foremost important word that the community should be most aware of, is that we are in the process of recruiting new players which will be first preference from mabopane, before seeking else where to strengthen our team for the regional league ahead of us.

“We also intend on using this platform granted to us to empower the youth to take part in sports and know that with great determination and hardwork, dreams do come true.

We intend to keep our status and work our way up to the top. We have already adopted a netball club in which we wish to see grow impeccably over the

next year,” he continued.

Mokoena also conceded that since it would be their first season in the SAB League, the team’s priority will not be to win the league instantly, but only to adapt and gain the necessary experience, however, he assured that in their second season, they would be looking to clinch the league and gain promotion to ABC Motsepe League.

He also pleaded with people, businesses and potential sponsors to come forward and help the team financially as they struggle with transportation at the moment.

“Yes, we have already started with the process of inquiring, sending email and personally visit the relate sites to ask for help. Though we would appreciate this opportunity of exposure, to reach out to a wider audience,” Mokoena concluded.
