embers of the Forum 4 Service Delivery Youth brought proceedings at the Dikwena Funeral Parlour to a standstill, this after the parlour allegedly delivered a decomposed body of the late Mr Oupa Ngobeni with maggots for burial.

In an attempt to get Dikwena Funeral Parlour to apologize to the Ngobeni family, members of the Forum 4 Service Delivery Youth protested outside the Soshanguve offices in Block AA, ensuring that people do not enter nor exit the parlour’s premises.

During an interview with Tshwane

Bulletin, Forum 4 Service Delivery Youth President, Kgothatso Ramautswa revealed that they tried by all means to engage with Dikwena Funeral Parlour representatives, however they were unsuccessful.

“We tried to exhaust all the relevant channels before anything but the parlour became arrogant and threatened the family with lawyers. The family wanted him to apologize and assist them with a ceremony, also they were disappointed as they believed in the dignity Dikwena spoke about,” said Ramautswa.

Meanwhile, Kelebogile Dikoba who was speaking on behalf of Dikwena Funeral Parlour said that she wanted to explain to the protesters that the business did the best it could do with the body and the Department of Health was also aware of the situation.

“We cannot say much at this stage to either the media or the community. We are actually waiting for the officials from the department to come and explain what happened. That’s what I wanted to tell them. The department knows about this matter,” said Dikoba.

Should there be no consensus, members of the Forum 4 Service Delivery Youth vowed to shutdown operations at all branches of the funeral parlour in the townships.

Tshwane suspends bus operations due to the taxi strike

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za fter careful assessment of the tense situation, the City of Tshwane management has resolved to suspend the Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) and A Re Yeng operations for the remainder of the day, due to the strike action by members affiliated to the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) which was characterised by violence, intimidation and threats directed towards the bus drivers and the commuters.

A female driver was hijacked in the Orchards area, north of the City and was later released, while another driver was assaulted in front of the C De Wet Depot, in the CBD, this

morning. The driver sustained internal injuries and was rushed to the Belle Ombre Clinic for treatment. A decision was taken to recall all the buses back to the depot for the protection of the City’s assets as well the safety of both the drivers and the commuters.

The MMC for Roads and Transport, Cllr Dikeledi Selowa, said the City had intended to resume bus operations this afternoon, but after careful assessment of the situation and taking into account the violent nature of the strike, it was cautiously resolved that buses would resume operations tomorrow morning.

“This was a very difficult decision to take, however, we had to take into consideration the safety of our drivers as well as that of our valued commuters, and also the protection of our assets. We wish to apologise profusely to our commuters for the inconvenience caused and urge them to make alternative travel arrangements”.

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za he Rietgat SAPS in conjunction with the City of Tshwane embarked on yet another community outreach campaign at the City of Tshwane building in Block KK, Soshanguve this morning.

The purpose of the campaign was to sensitize the community about the escalating number of cases on assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and rape cases that are busy eating away at the moral fibre of the society.

The recent spate of these offences

plaguing the community nudged the station to double the efforts in spreading the message.

About 80 men and women were challenged by the police to become anti crime ambassadors and report criminal behaviour in the community.

They were further implored to teach their children to speak out on things that they feel uncomfortable about, especially girl children.

Meshack Matsimela vowed to help the police to fight crime by blowing the whistle. “I have learned a lot from the presentation and from now going forward, i will become an agent of change and fight crime by speaking out against any form of criminality,” said Matsimela.

An elderly woman from Block JJ, Emma Skhosana extended her gratitude to the men and women in blue for their efforts in meeting them half way to issue affidavits and certifying their documents for the Poorest of the Poor (POP) Programme run by the Tshwane Municipality.

The Station Commander of the Rietgat SAPS, Colonel Stephina Nkosi assured the public that the station will continue to serve them by all means possible.

“It is incumbent on us as the police to share the crime patterns with all the community members, so that they aware of everything happening in their surroundings, we also assure them that their safety is our priority,” said Colonel Nkosi.

The City of Tshwane will implement the new application fees/ tariffs to the categories of properties that qualify for applications according to the land management policy.

The new tariffs were approved in June 2020 during the 2020/21 budget approval. This follows the City’s comparative analysis with the other Metropolitan Municipalities as part of driving efficiency in the management of the application process.

Some of the glaring gaps identified during the process was the absence of an administrative fee system for processing applications and managing contracts. This shortcoming resulted in loss of revenue for the City as it carried the costs associated with processing the applications.

The new application fees will be applicable to categories of properties that qualify for applications according to the Land Management Policy.

ammanskraal born Mpho Paul Moroe has his sight closely fixed on clinching the Mr & Miss Albinism pageant, the first of its kind on the South African soil.

The 21-year-old Moroe who is also a UNISA Youth Jazz Orchestra musical trombonist, a drum player and a producer shed some light to The City Star on the motivation behind entering the Mr & Miss Albinism pageant.

“I entered the pageant because I wanted to create awareness about the condition and to educate people about albinism in general.

Most of us people who live with albinism are rejected by society and we are not being given opportunities to shine as well. I am hoping to go all the way to the semifinals, hopefully some other opportunities to educate people about albinism will come out of this pageant,” said Moroe.

He also thanked the founder and CEO of the pageant, Godfrey Mphatswe for coming up with the idea which seeks to embrace and dignify people living with albinism.

“This pegeant is very important for us

people living with albinism because it is a platform for us to shine and to show the whole world that we are capable of doing and achieving anything just like anyone else,” he added.

In an effort to encourage people living with albinism, Moroe continued,”I would like to let them know that it all starts at home with the parents. They must start showing love and affection to their kids and by frequently telling and reminding their kids that they are beautiful. This will help build their confidence as and when they grow up”.

Founder and CEO of the pageant, Godfrey Mphatswe explained during an interview with the SABC the reasons that compelled him to establish the pageant.

“I was invited to Mr & Miss Albinism Zimbabwe to judge them and I as well went to the Malawi one and I was like you know, I need to incorporate this when I am back home,” said Mphatswe.

He went on to say, “People with albinism are marginalized, they are not recognized and they are killed. In South Africa it’s a little bit better but if you go to other African countries like Malawi, we

experience a lot of killing around them.

People are having superstitions around them, like they can do muthi with their body parts and so on.

“They think there is luck around them, so we are trying to address that and to show them that these are normal people and like anyone carries those genes, it can be you tomorrow having a kid with albinism, it can affect anyone. So we are bringing it in a pageant format in order to show people that these people have skills, they can be lawyers, they can be everything that anyone else can be”.

Mphatswe also added that, “At the time I didn’t see a lot of fashion shows representing albinism models. It was necessary to break boundaries and stereotypes. It became a unique fashion show during that time as it was the only show that had albinism models on the runway”.

Calls for the removal of Ward 76 councillor mount SOSHTIMES

alls for the current councillor of Ward 76 in Lephengville, Hammanskraal, Jonty Baloyi to be removed from his position are gathering momentum, the brewing storm is allegedly orchestrated by members from different political parties as well as some members within his own party, the African National Congress (ANC).

According to comrade Eugene Modise, who is the ANC Tshwane Regional Secretary, calls for Baloyi to be removed were made by people from opposition parties as well as members within their own party and not by community members.

He further added that all these calls for Baloyi’s head were common especially as the time for 2021 local government elections was drawing closer.

“All these calls are fuelled by the fact that we are going for the 2021 local government elections, so they are just preparing themselves, but they will never succeed because Jonty Baloyi is the humblest councillor you can ever get. He is down-to-earth and hardworking.

“We all know when this time for elections comes, there would be turmoil, dust, there would be so many things where others would be trying to paint others black and stuff like that. All these are in the process of advancing their own interests. But we are aware of this and we will be handling them within the organization with due processes,” said Modise.

He also revealed that they already identified people within their own party who were trying to bring down councillor Baloyi, but refused to divulge their names and more details.

“We already identified them but unfortunately we are not privileged to divulge more details now because we

In an effort to hear it from the horse’s mouth, Tshwane Bulletin was able to get hold of Ward 76 councillor, Jonty Baloyi, who revealed that there has never been formal calls for him to be removed, further adding that those who were calling for his removal were crooks who were trying to position themselves for upcoming local government elections using his name.

“There has never been formal request for me to be removed as the councillor but there has been some protests here

by crooks from the community as well as some members within our own part.

We all know some people will come up with some things just because we are approaching the next local elections. In this political space, you will find that there are people fighting with you for no apparent reason. It is how it is,” he explained.

Baloyi also had some advice for those who were inflicting conflicts within their own party in an effort to get certain political positions.

He advised, “People need to understand that you get elected for positions, you do not just put yourself there, so I am encouraging people to be patient and wait for whoever is elected to serve their period and it is then that if you also want a position, you can put your name up for nomination and be elected in a right way.

“People must also remember that we

are not permanent in these positions, there will be a time when there will be elections for others to take up these roles and serve the people. So let us all just wait for the right time to contest for these positions rightfully so”.

Baloyi also took the opportunity to alleviate any fears within community members who were also surprised by calls for his removal.

“My message to community members who had faith in me and elected me to serve them is they must not fear anything. I will not be removed by anyone before my term comes to an end. The community knows my work, the region knows my work and the Chief Whip also knows my work so I am not shaken, even the community members should not worry about anything. I am still going to serve them without any fears,” Baloyi concluded.

Youth Development Initiative empowers communities SOSHTIMES

The initiative which is in partnership with SAAAC Prestige College, Dinokeng and the Department of Tourism provides various training opportunities

ased in Hammanskraal, Youth Development Initiative is making strides in its pursuit to empower and uplift the youth of Hammanskraal and the surrounding communities with information, programs as well as projects that aim to better the standard of living in the various communities.

The initiative which is in partnership with SAAAC Prestige College, Dinokeng and the Department of Tourism provides various training opportunities as well as motivation and information on a lot of subjects including Business Management and Events Management.

The initiative once fully operational, aims to help the youths with Parent and Toddler groups, Health and Well-being Activities, Employment Support, Library Services, Advanced and Information, Skills Development and Training, Information Desk as well as Club Tutoring Services.

Among other areas, the initiative will also be helping the youths with internet café services such as Printing Works, Internet Use, Graphic Design, Business Consultation, Software Updates and Computer Parts.

In an interview with Tshwane Bulletin recently, Founder and Chairperson of the Initiative, Solly Mapoga revealed that the motivation behind the initiative was to uplift the community and areas in and around Hammanskraal.

“The initiative started in 2015, the motivation was a bridge of information and opportunities to the youth. I once worked at Tshwane North College as a volunteer and I

Mapoga further rued financial support as one of the stumbling blocks at the beginning of the initiative.

“After realizing the need for a centre that would provide information and programmes to the youth, I sat down and started a group, but unfortunately as you know, running an NPO is a problem, we had to struggle with the funds but

when you are doing something because of passion, you never give up. I went on and last year I did a program called Club Tutoring where we were assisting school children from foundation phase to Grade 12 with extra classes,” he added.

The initiative recently hosted a free workshop which lasted for four days where Dinokeng was giving training and insights into Events Management while the Department of Tourism was handling Business Management training.

Mapoga was happy with the overall turn-out and how the workshop was run from the beginning to the end.

He said, “The turn-out was nice,

those students attended for free, it’s a free course. They got certificates, recognized certificates which they can use to go and open their businesses, however most of the people who had attended the workshop already owned their small businesses, so they got the training and motivation as well as information that will really help them in their various businesses”.

The musical group pays tribute to Umkhondo Wesiswe soldiers by telling their stories of human rights violation that took place in the African National Congress (ANC) camps in Angola during the liberation struggle.

“Angola Camp 13” stole the show at the prestigious awards ceremony, winning six accolades in different categories on the night. The awards they bagged included: Best Director in a musical which was scooped by Sello Maseko, Best Choreography which was won by Mduduzi Vincent Nhlapo, Best Musical Original Score

by Cromwell Modungwa, Best Song Design by Blessing Jiyane and last but not least, the crew bagged Best Musical Original Score award.

The outstanding production crew of “Angola Camp 13” was lauded by the media, receiving an overwhelming

support and praise from powerhouses such as The Daily Maverick and Mail & Guardian.

The journey of the now award-winning production started back in 2016 when the multi-talented director Maseko began putting pen to paper, scripting the play before it was selected to be developed by the State Theatre’s Incubator programme a year later in 2018.

Once the State Theatre was done developing the production, it began making its presence felt across the country, achieving sold out feats with their incredible performances at several festivals which opened doors for them in the mainstream theatre in 2019.

The renowned director Maseko’s hardwork which dates back to 2011 when he was involved in the Ishashalazi development programme finally yielded some well-deserved positives.

Ishashalazi is part of the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation creative arts programme and Maseko was part of the programme participating in the training workshops for writing and directing where under his leadership and guidance in the programme managed to create award-winning theatre productions which included A Moment

When Love Hurts and Apprehension The Musical respectively.

Among many people who congratulated Maseko and his production team, was the Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mbali Hlope.

Hlope said, “A massive congratulations to Mr Maseko and his entire cast and crew for creating an incredible piece of work that has been recognized for its excellence. It is an honour to see a beneficiary of the department’s programme achieve such great success and we hope to see many more of Gauteng’s creative talents continue on this trajectory in the future”.

The MEC went on to say, ”It is a testament to hard work and dedication and with development of talent through training and education, growth to mainstream success within the creative industries is possible”.

In an interview with Tshwane Bulletin, Maseko expressed his gratitude to Naledi Awards for recognizing the efforts and hardwork they put in that saw “Angola Camp 13” dominate theatres across the country.

“It feels great because to be recognized by the industry itself,

Karabo Ralepoma details his love for farming SOSHTIMES

The 34-year-old has been in the farming business for seven years now

ailing from Hans Kekana View in Hammanskraal, Karabo Ralepoma has heeded the Vuk’uzenzele call, venturing into crop farming business and creating employment for himself in the process.

The 34-year-old has been in the farming business for seven years now, with his business expanding to places outside Hammanskraal and making its mark as far as Thule in the North West.

In an interview with The City Star, Ralepoma commended his mother for instilling the love and passion for farming in him from an early age as she was also a farmer.

“My mother used to be in farming when I was still in school and she would plant some crops in our yard and I fell in love with that since as we were able to get food from our own yard without having to go and buy in the shops,” said Ralepoma.

He also revealed some of the challenges and setbacks that he and other local farmers and entrepreneurs face with

businesses without the financial backing from the government.

“It is difficult for us as local farmers because our government does not really cater nor support us at the grassroots level.

Sometimes it hurts because for example, with me here, we struggle with water and since this is sandy soil and is very difficult to work with especially in summer as it dries up very quickly.

And now with the Covid-19 pandemic, things are even worse because due to the market, we are not able to reach our targets in terms of the sales and the government is not even willing to at least meet us halfway,” he added.

Despite the challenges he has to endure on a daily basis in his business, Ralepoma revealed that the warm reception and overwhelming support he continues to receive from the people is the one that encourages him and keeps him going.

In his attempt to encourage and motivate young and aspiring local entrepreneurs, Ralepoma emphasised that anyone who wanted to venture into entrepreneurship must first find a mentor who will guide them through every step of the way, further adding that a lot of workshops will also be imperative if a person wants to explore entrepreneurship.

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za he Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University School of Oral Health Care Sciences in conjunction with the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) hosted the first of its kind, innovative and futuristic Scientific Online Conference which took place at the Fire and Ice Protea Hotel near Menlyn in Pretoria from Thursday 12 to Friday 13 November 2020.

The highly informative conference which was facilitated by legendary radio host, Tim Modise, is an annual event hosted by different dental schools, on a rotational basis.

It has been exactly five years since this year’s proud host of the conference, SMU, last hosted this innovative event back in 2015.

This year’s edition was a hybrid conference which was broadcasted live from the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice in Menlyn for delegates across the country and the world to be part of.

IADR which was the important member of the conference, is a professional body of oral health practitioners with over 10 000 members worldwide, with its mission being to drive dental, oral and craniofacial research to advance health and well-being worldwide, while its vision is to provide access to oral health services for the world through discovery and dissemination.

This year’s conference which was dubbed a huge success by organizers and delegates, was graced by the presence of prominent figures whom among others included, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela, University of Johannnesburg Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla as well as SMU Deputy

Delivering his key note address at the conference, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Mr Buti Manamela, heaped praise on SMU for managing against all odds to successfully host an event of such magnitude despite challenges posed by the Coronavirus.

After praising the university, Manamela further lauded SMU and the organisers for choosing to shine the spotlight on the 4th Industrial Revolution and how the higher education sector needed to adapt and hit the ground running.

Manamela recalled how universities had to quickly adapt to snippets of the 4th Industrial Revolution during the hard national lockdown back in March, “When we asked universities to go for an early recess, some of the things we had to look at was how we abandon the traditional ways of teaching and learning”.

He further outlined some of the challenges and discoveries that came along when the system shifted to remote learning, “The shift to remote learning during the lockdown laid bare the inequalities

that existed between institutions and the students from different backgrounds,” he said this before revealing that, “The government has made huge interventions and investments on online learning including blended learning methods”.

Shortly after the Deputy Minister’s powerful address, University of Johannnesburg’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala took to the podium and stressed out how the 4th Industrial Revolution was about the convergence of technology and human resources, which therefore required Doctors of the future to be technologists and look at how best artificial intelligence could be deployed in medical space in order to embrace technology.

After the lively address and presentation by Professor Marwala, it was time for Deputy Minster of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla to deliver his address at the conference and he said, “We need to use science and research to find better ways of improving our health and well-being.

There is a need to promote oral health and prevent oral health diseases”.

He said this in an effort to encourage professionals to breach the gap between

those who have resources and those who do not have resources, particularly those in deep rural communities.

Professor Lekan Ayo-Yusuf who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, postgraduate studies and innovation at SMU emphasised the need to invest time and attention on the 4th Industrial Revolution especially when dealing with oral health issues.

“South Africa should not undermine itself in the area of oral health as it can be a leader in this field,” he said this while also inviting delegates to come to SMU School of Oral health to witness the resources and intellectual capacity available to drive the 4th Industrial Revolution.

“When we treat patients, it puts us in proximity with the virus. We had to look more on the provision of PPEs for the oral health personnel and exercise protocols in line with the guidelines promulgated by government,” these were the words of Professor Stephen Hendricks, who is the Dean for the School of Oral Health at SMU, who was stressing out how risky it is for oral health practitioners to contract Covid-19.

n an absolute act of humanity and selflessness, the DMRN (Dimpho, Mashubathele, Rolihlahla and Nomzamo) Maepa Education Trust took it upon themselves to come to the aid of destitute schools. The trust recently donated 8000 sanitary pads to young girls in “No fees public schools” as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

The recipients of the sanitary pads and PPEs were schools in Atteridgeville and Olivenhoutbosch (Centurion) respectively.

Schools that received donations in Atteridgeville were Matseke Primary school in Ward 62, Motsweding Primary school, Makgwaraneng Primary school as well as Banareng Primary school, all based in Ward 72.

There was only one school in Olivenhoutbosch (Centurion) which received the donation and the name of the school is Orefile Primary school which is based in Ward 77.

In a statement, Chairperson of the trust, Dr Kgosi Maepa thanked all the partners and sponsors as well as schools and SGB for working tirelessly in making the project a success.

The statement read, “We want to send a special thank you to all our sponsors and donors; including School Management and SGB. Let us all look after the Youth, they are the future.

“We call upon more selfless sponsors and donors to partner with DMRN Maepa Trust to do more in communities. We remain truly humbled, thankful and grounded”.

hroughout November 2020, Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide will distribute the issue of the Watchtower magazine entitled “What Is God’s Kingdom?”

The answer to that question has captivated the attention of people from many different faiths for centuries.

Jehovah’s Witnesses will distribute the magazine to the general public, business owners, local and national government officials, as well as court officials.

The campaign will proceed using methods in accordance with local health protocols. This may include distributing the magazine and making visits via electronic means.

Many people pray for God’s Kingdom to come.

But they often wonder what that Kingdom is, when it will come, and what it will do.

Gogos show their skills on soccer field

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za The love of the beautiful game amongst the elderly women in Lephengville, Hammanskraal is growing by the day and the old ladies are elated that they can stay healthy.

One team which is becoming popular is Rekgonne Gogos FC which started playing in 2017.

Everyday the old women put on their soccer boots, shorts and

head for the dusty Selemela Ground to show off their skills.

Two of their star players are making an impact on the international stage. Gogo Marinkie ‘Shoes’ Peteke and Arisnath ‘Spiderwoman’ Makoela were part of the South African National senior team Bakekolo Bakekolo that thrashed the French counterparts 9-0.

Peteke scored 4 goals for the visitors during the encounter.

‘Bazzoka’ Kgomo emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“Since we started playing soccer in 2013 I have to look at what I eat. I only eat what is good for my health, like taking only 100% fruit juice. Since we started playing soccer we do no longer suffer from sugar diabetes, arthritis, high-blood pressure and taking endless pills.I would advise every gogo to play soccer or engage in any

sporting activity of their choice.

After every training session I feel younger, stronger and healthier. The more one exercise the more they get fit and hardly get injured,” said the passionate Kgomo.

The team has already bagged over 9 soccer tournaments in recent years. They have won also Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Highlands Park replica kits.

the 90 year old Francinah ‘Big Stone’ Monegi who continues to run like a teenage girl, encouraged youngsters to take part in sport.

“Playing soccer has kept me fit, I feel like young stars. By playing soccer we want to teach the younger generation about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We always try to teach them about the dangers of engaging in alcohol and drugs,” said Monegi.

Proteas back on court against Malawi

editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za South Africa’s netball Proteas have announced they will be playing a three-Test series against the Malawi Queens at the end of November in Rustenburg.

The matches will see two more international sides returning to court after England and New Zealand faced-off in Hamilton.

SPAR Proteas head coach Dorette Badenhorst has worked with her selectors to name a provisional squad of 30 players.

This group will partake in a three-day training camp from 22 November in Sun City, before a final group of 15 players is confirmed to take on the Malawi Queens.

‘2020 has been a very challenging year for Netball South Africa as we have had to reshuffle and revise our events calendar for the year,’ Cecilia

Molokwane, Netball South Africa president said.

‘Some of the things we had planned on doing have had to fall off due to coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown that came with it.

‘We were all concerned that we may not see our national team compete this year, I am delighted that we will have the SPAR Challenge Series taking place this year against Malawi.’

Due to the current lockdown regulations and restrictions, the 2020 SPAR Challenge Series will be played in a bubble environment with no spectators being allowed.

This will be the first time the two countries have met since the 2019 Africa Netball Africa Cup, which South Africa won in Cape Town last year.

‘As a team, we have been challenged by a difficult year riddled with Covid-19, we are thankful for the opportunity to play an international

netball game this year,’ Badenhorst said.

‘Playing against any African country is never easy, but this will be a great challenge for the players, and we are looking forward to building the team.’
