A Tshwane caucus broke into song and dance after Solly Msimanga survived two bids to oust him as the mayor of Tshwane.

This after the red berets and the ANC tabled separate motions of no confidence against Msimanga amid allegations of maladministration in the hiring of unqualified candidates with fake qualifications, lack of service delivery and corruption.

The move was dealt a major blow when council Speaker Katlego Mathebe disallowed EFF’s motion of no confidence, stating that it did not comply with the council’s rules.

Prompting enraged EFF councillors to leave the chamber without voting in support of the ANC’s motion.

This came hot in the heels of the removal Athol Trollip of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, replacing him with UDM’s Bobani Memela.

Tshwane ANC leader Kgosi Maepa remained adamant that his party will table another motion of no confidence in September against Msimanga.

“As the ANC we will do everything in our power even if it means going to court to ensure that Msimanga vacates his seat. He needs to take responsibility for the controversial R 12 Billion consultancy tender which his administration has entered into under his watch.

“We cannot have a mayor who claims ignorance on everything. He cannot even explain how people with fake qualifications were hired in the municipality. The state of service delivery has also depreciated since the DA ledadministration of the city took over two years back,” said Maepa.

The elated Msimanga said the will of the people has prevailed calling the motion frivolous; “The ANC has failed in its bid to come to power through the back door. We will as the DAled administration focus our energy on serving the people of Tshwane, who have rejected ANC corruption.”

n a shocking sentence, the owner of a popular Soshanguve drinking hole has been sent to effective 2 years jail term after he was found guilty on 26 counts relating to noise pollution by City of Tshwane Municipal Court recently.

The 44 year old Phillip Mafata was found guilty of contravening

section 8, 9 and 15 of the Gauteng Noise Control Regulation of 1999 promulgated under section 25 of the Environment Act, 1989 ( Act 73 of 1989) which is currently used by the Municipal Health Services to enforce noise control in the City of Tshwane.

The regulation stipulate amongst others that noise generated by a device or activity on a property may not be audible beyond its boundary.

The case against Mafata was brought to the City of Tshwane’s Municipal Health Services Section by his neighbour.

The complainant, Kenneth Sithebe said the nature of Mafata’s business caused much anguish in the neighbourhood, as the music was played until the early hours of the morning.

“The torture he inflicted on my family, causing us $ years of sleepless night, will hopefully

come to an end. I am happy with the judgment. I hope it will send a strong message to those who operate their businesses at the expense of others, causing serious psychological harm,” said Sithebe.

Mafata was previously fined R 12 000 for contravening the Gauteng Noise Control Regulations, after he pleaded guilty to all charges.

During the mitigation of the

sentence, the City of Tshwane prosecutor Kagiso Ratlhogo said all charges the accused was found guilty on were a serious offence.

But remember that we cannot force people to join, we can only encourage them. We will keep on encouraging them until our words make sense to them. We are patient,” said Semenya.

itness instructors and groups were honoured as Soshanguve based fitness club, E’kasi Sports Foundation, held their inaugural mini awards ceremony recently. The aim was to encourage fitness and healthy living in the communities in Soshanguve.

The prestigious awards were attended by various stakeholders as well as representatives from all the local fitness and aerobics clubs and their fitness instructors. The initiative which was spearheaded by E’kasi Sports Foundation founder, Mr. Chris Semenya, honoured instructors from Halala Fitness Club, Bumba Signs, Botshelo Private Hospital

Fitness Club, Murphy’s Community Fitness Club, Shad-Ou Fitness Club, as well as legendary professional fitness instructor, Mr. Tshepo Madubanya, who gives free lessons to the clubs whenever he gets a chance.The awards were a token of appreciation to all these local fitness clubs for working tirelessly against all odds to keep communities fit and healthy, this was according to E’kasi’s Chris Semenya, who was speaking after the ceremony at Halala Community Hall.“The awards were a motivation to those fitness clubs and instructors to say we appreciate their efforts and they must never give up. We are planning to host the awards annually

so that people can keep on doing the good deeds for our communities.

“When someone is doing a great job, a gesture of appreciation motives and encourages him or her to continue with the work. By Tshepo Marutha Likened to the biblical journey of Israelites travelling through the desert to the promised land, Soshanguve High School was turned into a hip of activities, celebrating 40 years of academic par excellence marred by hardships which produced countless trailblazers in various sectors of the economy.

Started in 1978 with no place to call home, it had to be accommodated by numerous schools around Soshanguve with the aim of catering the non-Setswana speaking learners prejudiced by the then Bophuthatswana led government.

Previously, Soshanguve High School had to be housed often in one class by Sediba sa Tsebo, Tlamaganyo, Lethabong, Valhnam until its occupancy of Sidlopweni in 1993.

The event afforded the schools alumni’s an opportunity to get together after years to

reminisce about the good olden days.

On the flip side the school had an opportunity to bid farewell to one of its long serving servant, Mrs Victoria Ledwaba who had been the school principal since 1983.

Speaking during the event Ledwaba said she feels that she had achieved her dream of achieving a 90% matric pass rate attained in 2017.

“Today we are celebrating planting the seed of excellence. I remember at the time when I was hired, I never thought that one day I will be its leader. I am happy that today we have produced numerous medical doctors, entrepreneurs, engineers and those who today serve as advisors to the president of the country.

“I hope that the school will continue its strategy of collaborative teaching in which one teacher develops the other. They by showing their passion of developing our learners by being the first to arrive and last to leave the school,” said Ledwaba.

ammanskraal based football Club which ply’s its trade in the ABC Motsepe League is under new management, after it was sold for an undisclosed amount recently.

Despite the sale the club will continue operating under the same name, colours status and homeground. The only substitutions are in managerial positions.

The cost of running a football club from one’s own pocket without financial backing are some of the reason for the sale.

Former owner Mr. Simon Tlhatlha who over the past 11 years since running the club out of his own pockets said “Operational cost of running a team out of one’s pocket are expensive.

Owning a soccer team is more of a social responsibility than a business venture. You have more than 40 people depending on you.”

“It was not an easy decision to make to part ways with the club. I took the decision two years but never implemented the decision as it was a difficult one to make; I will still contribute towards sports development because I am passionate about sports but on my own time and terms. I have sporting projects on the pipeline but will reveal them soon,” said Tlhatlha.

Former Gunners Team Manager Elias Tlhatlha said “I wish the new owner, players and the technical team the best of luck.
