n incorrect statement to the effect that social grant beneficiaries using paypoints would be paid on 11 May instead of 06 May 2019 was circulated last week. To correct this, SASSA wishes to inform beneficiaries who were originally scheduled for Monday 06 May 2019 payment date that the date has not changed.

All SASSA cash paypoints scheduled for 06 May 2019 will be opened and beneficiaries will be able to collect their grants on that day.

Beneficiaries will also be able to collect their grants from shops, ATM’s and all post offices nationally will be open for grant payments on the 06 May 2019.

The EFF Tshwane Regional Chairperson Moafrica Mabongwana said “This whole mess reeks of the ANC; it is their thuggery acts responsible for the whole protest.”

Soshanguve family is desperately seeking information on their missing 65-year-old family member.

It has been more than a month since Mazondo Khumbula [pictured] went missing. Khumbula was last seen by his sister Joyce Ngobeni at Soshanguve Block R

on Monday, 18 March where he spent that day with his sister.

One of the family member, Khutso Khumbula who is sick with worry told Tshwane Bulletin that it has not been easy for the family. “We lost my grandfather [my mother’s father] late last year, so he is the one I call ‘grandfather’ and is the eldest in our family.

So with him gone missing, it’s just very painful for us. But we are hoping and praying that we will find him unharmed,” said Khutso.

She said: “So far there is a lead. My mother received a call on Saturday 20 April, telling her that they saw Khumbula at Glen Marais, in Kempton Park. They went to the place on Sunday to search for him.

The people they came across with said they know him and have seen him around but unfortunately he was nowhere to be found on that day. We exchanged contacts with those people and they said they will let us know if they see him.”

Ga-Rankuwa resident are slamming the City of Tshwane for the poor state of the roads, high municipal bills, unemployment, high crime rate, drug abuse, lack of recreational facilities amongst others.

Community leader Itumeleng Bochele said it is time now that the residents of Ga-Rankuwa should stop being arm chair critics that moan incessantly while the enormity of their problems continues to rise while they are doing nothing to find a solution to them.

“Nothing is happening in GaRankuwa in terms of service delivery.

We have to bear in mind that this is as an old township and most the infrastructure is aging. The municipality is failing to attend to the forever clogged sewer system, leaking water meters, erroneous billing system based on estimates, street lights that are not working.

When residents ask for the municipality to attend to their complaint’s they are always told that the there is no money. It is unfortunate that we have to stand up and fight before the authorities could listen to needs pleas for help,” Bochele.

Ward 35 Councillor Jabu Rammushi blamed the DA led City of Tshwane administration for the lack of service delivery in the area; “Since the new administration things have gone from better to worse. Their priorities are elsewhere and not with the people. For instance Ga-Rankuwa is left with only one TLB to service the entire township and this will impact on the quality of services rendered.

A

custom-built car by Grade 12 learners stole the show during the official launch of Soshanguve Engineering School (SoS) of Specialisation with focus on automotive recently.

Characterized by its distinctive looks and features, Thuma Mina as it has been branded by the learners was assembled at the school’s state of the art work-shop.

The impressive piece of machine was modified from a written-off 2003 BMW sedan that was donated to the school, turning it into sporty bakkie ready for action. The

performance inspired bakkie exudes superior strength and power like no other.

Displaying their piece of machinery the learners said it took them three months to build the car; “To make our work easier we worked in a number of groups with each one assigned a special role. While others focused on things like engine, others dealt with things like gear-box, while some made from scratch things like bolt and nuts,” they Samito Hlonipha.

Flanked by Gauteng Premier David Makhura, CEO of BMW SA Tim Abbott, the elated MEC of Education in the province Panyaza Lesufi said the education of a black child has taken a corner for good.

“As the department we are building a skills revolution, we are saying we cannot have a one dimensional education system.

With this SoS in different key disciples (automotive, nuclear-energy, maritime) we want to prepare our learners so that they can be participants and not just by-standers in the 4th industrial revolution.

We want to create a generation that will

not want to earn salaries but the one that creates employment for others. The highly skilled leaner’s who can be absorbed into workplace environment and perform at an optimal level even if they do not have a Grade 12 certificate,” said Lesufi.

As partners in the project BMW donated one of its new X3 models to the school to assist leaner’s with educational purpose.

To strengthen the already existing relationship with the resident of Soshanguve Abbott said the leading German car manufacture will provide their workers children with learnerships, artisanship’s at its Roslyn plant.

Makhura said the SoS are intended to respond to the skills shortage and unemployment in the country; “We believe that they will equip learners with skills and knowledge to give them a best chance of success in life. As the provincial government we acknowledge that these objectives cannot be realised without industry and private partnership that will provide leaders with skills, training and job opportunities.

Aspirant nurses warned by SANC students deposit large sums of money

ith May 12th the World Nurses Day and to find a suitable prognosis to the social ill by unscrupulous health institutions, the South African Nursing Council (SANC) issued a warning regarding certain institutions that are offering the Community Health Work programme purporting that it is an entry requirement into nursing education programmes.

These institutions lure students, who do not meet the minimum entry requirements into nursing education programmes, into their programmes with promises that it will

provide them with an opportunity to bridge into nursing education Registrar of the SANC Ms Sizo Mchunu said “We should make it clear that this is not true. Entry requirements into nursing education programmes are legislated and the Community Health Work programme or any “pre-nursing” programme will not assist students to bridge the gap.

The SANC strongly warns students and potential students against these institutions that offer the socalled ‘’pre-nursing” Ms Sizo Mchunu They will be paying a lot of money for the programme only to find out

at the end of their studies that the SANC cannot allow them, according to legislation, to register as student nurses.”

The SANC requests all students to be mindful of institutions that are recruiting and promising them that if they don’t meet requirements for entry into the nursing profession, they must do the community healths course as a bridging programme. Of even bigger concern is that apparently these institutions are expecting the students to deposit huge sums of money into their accounts as an entry fee.

The SANC strongly warns students and potential students against these institutions that offer the so-called ‘’pre-nursing”programme, purporting that it is an entry requirement for any nursing programme.

oshanguve High School recently entered into a new era in its history, a tenure set to be characterized by the absence of one of its longest serving figure who helped steer the ship during tough turbulence times.

MaVictoria Ledwaba as she is affectionately known recently announced her retirement, bringing to an end her relationship to the school that spans to over a quarter of a century. .

She is credited for having brought credible leadership and stability at the school at the time when it faced threats of closure.

She joined Soshanguve High School in 1993 from Hans Kekana High School in Hammanskraal to teach Mathematics and Physical Science.

Speaking during an event held to bid farewell to her, the school’s former SGB Chairperson Joseph Tshabalala described Ledwaba as extra ordinary woman who kept ship afloat during difficult times “She has throughout the years proven people who thought that she was bound to fail. I remember when she was appointed as the acting principal of the school in 1996 people used to think a woman cannot be a principal of a high school.

“They thought woman could only lead primary school. But through her hard work, dedication and passion for the craft she has produced some of the best Grade 12 results in the province. We will miss her love for music which helped turned the school into a force to be reckoned with nationally,” said Tshabalala.

Although she was the principal she used to spend most time in the classroom than in the office. Nationally she was known for being one of the best choral master with her team winning trophies year in year out,” said Tshabalala.

Dr. Nomonde Maboya (former student) sang praise of Ledwaba’s love for education; “Although she was the principal, she spent most of her time in the classroom teaching than in the office.

It was her love for education made her difficult job look easy. This helped her to buy into her vision and share a common goal. This helped the school to be one of the best in the province,” said Maboya.

Deliberate decision to build in-house capacity

W

hen Incumbent Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa took reigns, his immediate plan of action was on tangible service delivery as he also visited the capital city’s seven regions, in order to familiarise himself with projects currently being implemented by the city of Tshwane.

With that done and dusted his view needed to change as he delivered his maiden State of the City Address at the Tshwane House Chambers recently. Pivotal points of his address focused on aspects of economic growth service delivery and job creation.

Adopting the policy of the Economic Freedom Fighters he said the municipality was in the process of hiring 3000 security guards to guard the city’s assets “We have taken a deliberate decision to build in-house capacity with by establishing the Asset Protection Unit, which aims to hire 3 000 guards to guard assets against theft and vandalism. As much as I would love to take the credit for this, the move has to be attributed

to the EFF,” said Mokgalapa.

To prove his point Mokgalapa said “When we took over office in 2016, we made a promise that we would prioritise job creation. We set ourselves a target of R10 billion in investment and I am happy to report that we have achieved 66% at R6 billion. These numbers may not mean anything to some, but most importantly, they actually translate to jobs.”

The City has set itself a massive task of creating 104 000 jobs and to date it has managed to account for 60 000 which is another achievement of 67%. I am pleased that at midterm both our targets for investment and for job creation have been over exceeded We will get it right, as long as we prioritise the right things: fighting corruption, creating jobs and delivering better services to the people of Tshwane Residents will be pleased to know that the mayor asked council for the allocation of R22,5 million to the Mabopane Station modal interchange, R23,1 million to internal roads in the northern areas of our city, and R460,6 million to BRT infrastructure and the extension of BRT to Mamelodi and Atteridgeville.

“I personally wrote to the mayor and wrote ‘Hi Mayor’ but he didn’t honour his invitation and that is disrespectful to me and the community as a whole. We need to set aside our political differences on issues that are beneficial to the

community. Today’s event is for the benefit of the community and it is not politically motivated,” said Cele The Minister further said “Maimane is busy running his mouth saying that we don’t do anything for our communities yet when we do good they keep mum, even the mayors failure to attend is a clear indication that they don’t care about the people. We will not be scared as we need to rid the streets of illegal guns.”

Community Safety and Liason MEC Sizakele Mal+ubane who was also in attendance shared the ministers sentiments and said “We need to be sensitive when dealing with victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse and the police station has facilities for those victims. Never allow yourself to be abused irrespective of your background.

The police station is for the people and don’t burn it when you protest because we are not going to build another one for you so take care of it of it and use it wisely. So far the minister has opened about 39 police stations countrywide in order to ensure a safe environment for all” Ward Councillor Malebo Rasegwete said “ I am happy that the minister saw it befitting to build a state of the art police station.”

Winter crime blitz warning to joggers and the community SOSHTIMES

inter season apparently is criminal’s happy season as they operate under the cover of darkness, so to ensure the safety of community members the Rietgat SAPS has issued a warning to joggers to be vigilant and refrain from using their gadgets while jogging.

Captain Stephen Maluleka said“Since the winter season is around the corner we would like to urge the sport enthusiasts to be more careful on the side of the road against any criminals who might take advantage of the darkness.”

“We also call on to the commuters to try to go to the bus/taxi stops in groups and also avoid isolated areas during the winter season. Commuters are also advised to avoid using headphones since they can

be distracting to even hear a hooter or imminent danger from behind,” said Maluleka.

The station also in collaboration with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) took to the streets to sensitise the community about the scourge of crime plaguing the area.

The campaigns aimed at reducing high volumes of crime through community involvement. The two partners distributed over 2500 pamphlets to pedestrians, shoppers and motorists alike.

The crime fighters dished out pamphlets at Batho Plaza, Pick n Pay Plaza and the Mabopane Station traffic circle respectively. The campaign further strengthened the rapport between the police and community through personal interactions where, members of the community, asked police related questions and were pleased by the responses they received.

The community was also urged to spread tips that they received on how to prevent house robberies, carjacking, burglaries as well as general mall and ATM tips.

he Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) preparation for the 2019 logistically election includes 60 million ballot papers, about 300 000 ballot boxes, 45 000 voting compartments, 25 000 voting station arrow signs as well as 56 255 stationery packs.

For this year’s elections, the IEC has granted 774 094 special votes. These votes, dedicated to citizens who cannot cast ballots on voting day due to work commitments and old age and illness, will be cast on Monday, 6 May and Tuesday, 7 Wednesday during home visits and at voting stations South Africa’s 26.7 million registered voters have been urged to flock to the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) 22 000 voting stations to cast their ballot in the National and Provincial Election

Addressing reporters at the National Results Operation Centre (ROC) in Pretoria on Thursday, Deputy IEC Chairperson Janet Love said “The record number of 48 parties contesting these elections has placed additional demands and pressures on the Commission, as well as on voters. The longer ballots have placed additional financial and logistical demands on the Commission including requiring more ballot boxes, redesigned Universal Ballot Templates (UBTs), and a refined focus on balloting education.”

Each political party is also permitted to deploy two party agents at every voting station to oversee and monitor voting and counting. Sixty-six observer organisations that have been accredited by the commission will also be deployed to voting stations around the country.

There are on average eight election officials per voting station, which include the Presiding Officer, Deputy Presiding Officer and officials to perform the various aspects of the voting process.

The Commission added that once the voting stations close, the counting of votes begins immediately at the voting station. The counting is conducted by election officials and is witnessed by party agents and observers.

“The results slip for each voting station is completed by the Presiding Officer and is signed by party agents who are also encouraged to take a photograph of the results slip to allow them to compare it to the final result captured on the results system,” she said.

“One copy of the results slip is posted on the door of the voting station while the second copy is taken back to the local IEC office where

is it scanned into the results system and the results data captured through a doublecapture process to reduce any human error.”

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo said Election Day will be a culmination of two years of preparing, planning and training and it was now down to the voters to cast votes.

“An election is a dynamic confluence of varied core functional components, such as legal, infrastructure, logistics, human capacity and security,” he said.

The IEC has recruited 189000 volunteers to conduct the counting processes.

“In connection with the various state security institutions, including the South African police services, we have arranged for security at each voting stations and critical infrastructure.

The group accused the mayor of failing to properly and officially informing them about the opening of the interchange, the group then hurled insults and threatened the mayor’s security detail, members of the media and the police.

The group leader ward 37 African National Congress Youth League committee member Thapelo Mampho said “Today issue is not about electioneering but failure by the office of the mayor to follow proper procedure engaging the community about a project that involves them. We were involved and consulted when the project started, now when they open it they don’t consult us we cannot tolerate that. “ “You cannot come to someone house and tell them what to do. We don’t even acknowledge whoever he is as the incumbent mayor. ispelling the old gender stereotypical cliché that a woman-place is in the kitchen is Soshanguve born Queen Chuene, who is proving her mettle by excelling in what is deemed a male dominated profession.

A Facilitator at Furniture World Private College(FWPC), she is Level 2 upholsterer by note having learnt the skills at the very institution she is now facilitating at, she is proving the

narrative right that everything a man can do a woman can do better.

She is amongst a new breed of women, who are not scared of getting their hands dirty, at her leisure time to augment her salary she gives new lease of life to old furniture by revamping it re-upholstering it.

In 2014 she heard that FWPC was looking for learners she took the leap of faith not knowing what the future had in store for her, she had to juggle attending classes in the morning and selling perfumes to put food on the table, the married mother of two persevered and her

determination is finally paying dividends.

“The road hasn’t always been paved with gold as she had to overcome gender stereotyping as her field was seen as a male industry “My work sometimes is questioned by elderly males who are my students because of the age gap and being a female they feel emasculated,” said Chuene.

Laying down her future plans she said “I my spare time I do private work as I am building a client base I want to own my own business in the future would create employment in the community.”

ven though the South African government continues in its efforts to introduce programs for the elderly, non-government organisations (NGOs) across the country are playing a key role in addressing the socio economic and health problems faced by older people and service users in society.

Ga-Rankuwa View based NGO, Thusong Care and Support Home offers community-based care as means of promoting good health and wellness all round. The project has been working for the welfare and empowerment of addicts as well as the elderly since 2005.

Project coordinator, Jerome Moagi said they are committed to providing love, nurturing, care and protection for the elderly and service users in the area. “Senior citizens are pillars in our communities because they are filled with wisdom and valuable skills which we can use to our benefit. It’s important to acknowledge them and the contribution that they have made in society,” said Moagi.

He said: “We are proud to be playing our role in implementing integrated services for the quality care counselling and support to the community to reduce vulnerability of drug and substance abuse within the society.”

Although funding remains a huge obstacle in the everyday operations of he centre, Moagi says they are working with what they have for now.

“We would like the municipality,

local businesses and the community at large to put a hand in this good cause.” The old RDP house, in which the centre is operating at, has been turned into a welcoming facility for people affected by substance abuse and assists the elderly with support groups, needlework skills, gardening, and exercises.

Gogo Florah Mogomotsi (62) told Tshwane Bulletin that she loves the support group because they share ideas. “This is where we help each other to grow and become wellestablished,” said Mogomotsi.

For service users the centre offers a helping hand to them through an integrated approach. It has joined forces with the local [Ga-Rankuwa View] clinic, and the Department of Social Development – which supplies a social worker to assist users with information and support.

A chiropractor’s main concern is the spine the nervous system and how well both are functioning. It works on the premise that good health is partially dependent on a normally functioning spine and nervous system.

esidents will have to cross their fingers that their musician sons and daughters will do them proud and bring back the gold statuette at the 2019 South African Music Awards One of the artists representing the township is gospel artist Paul K an abbreviation for his surname Kganyago a born again Christian who has been nominated in the Best Traditional Faith Album category at the awards Born in 1982 at Attridgeville Pretoria then later relocated to Soshanguve North of Pretoria. His musical journey started at a very early age, having worked with so many artist in the

industry before going solo, he released his first proper recorded professional album in 2009 titled ‘Ngiyosabela’.

The album did very well in the market followed by UNGU’JESU and introduced and opened new listenership markets in provinces such as Durban, Mpumalanga and Swaziland.

He made a strong relationship with the late Sfiso Ncwane and performed at Ncwane communications annual events in Durban. Paul K’s 3rd album was titled ‘On my Journey’ and the first to have proper distribution in stores under licensing deal at Spirit Music after creating very big demand to the public.

The album was recorded live at Pretoria State and features artists such as Winnie Mashaba on one song among other artist. The cd contains of 12 beautiful songs new composition and few traditional Gospel songs. The album

was released under Barona Trading and Events Management it’s the first live project with the hit song Ntshware ka Letsoho.

This will be Paul K second SAMA nomination and he said “I won my first award for best live recorded cd at the 3rd INGOMA AWARDS that was held on the 27 of August 2016.

The album title On my Journey was shortlisted for nomination at the SAMA AWARDS 2017. The album got to be played at all top SABC radio stations such as Thobela FM, Motsweding FM just to mention few. I am elated to be nominated it means Gods work through me is recognized.”

Secondarily, we established a rapport with pastors within our community in order to help us spread the crime combating messages in churches and to the entire community. During this launch we prayed for among other things, the national elections and crime in particular, and we are optimistic that through inviting the Lord in everything we do, success is guaranteed.”

Bishop Michael Modipa said “What the station is doing has to be done across all police department because as Africans we are religious people and we need divine and spiritual guidance from certain foreseen elements. Tshwane Executive Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa officially opened two Modal Transport Interchanges in Soshanguve recently. Despite an incident that wanted to put a dent on the proceedings that was quickly dealt with by the police, it was all systems go.

Flanked by Members of the Mayoral Committee Roads and Transport, portfolio head Sheila Senkubuge and Economic Development and Spartial Planning MMC Isak Petersen cut the ribbon to address commuter woes.

Both projects cost an estimated R123 Million to complete and integrate all three

vastly used modes of transport being trains, buses and taxis in one place for commuter convenience.

MMC Senkubuge said “We are happy that we are offering our people innovative solutions to their everyday problems.

Commuters can now access all modes of transport vastly used in one place for their convenience.

The Kopanong Modal Transport Interchange took 2 years to complete and cost R33 million to complete.”

The four team netball tournament was played at Lesolang Primary School in Zone 5. Euphoria Netball Club from Theresa Park, Pretoria North scooped first place finish after beating Ga-Rankuwa’s Golden Panthers 14 – 11. They went home with a trophy, gold

medals and netball kit. Third-place match was played between 24 United NC who walloped Blue White NC 26 – 3. With sport participation slowly fading away in the townships, the non-profit organisation (NPO), Faith and Hope Foundation is doing all they can to try and revive youth participation in sports. The NPO commemorated Freedom Day by staging the under-17 netball games.

The main objective of sport is to create enjoyment, excitement and promote healthy living, but in this day and age, sport plays a pivotal role in keeping youth away from bad influences such as drugs, alcohol and crime which are slowly taking over.

Founder of the organisation Faith Sibeko was very disappointed though, prior to the games.

She said the community must stand

together to fight against the vandalism of sport facilities. “We had to change the venue because of the poles that were stolen,” said Sibeko.

She said: “The games are there to nurture the talent we have. I would also like to see parents being more involved in their children’s talents. Because sport and other recreational activities play a crucial role in the development of the youth as they teach them to be disciplined and to conduct themselves properly.”

Coach of Euphoria Tumelo Mokhutswane said he is proud of his team.

“We want to compete with the best of the best. This was also a good preparation for us because we are preparing for the upcoming Pink Love Netball season,” said Mokhutswane.

Quota selection method set aside Athletics

SA Schools Athletics general secretary Peppi Olevano said they were withdrawing their memos from February 5 and 25.

“SA Schools Athletics will in future align its selection criteria with

the federation (Athletics South Africa),” Said Olevano.

This comes after AfriForum Youth contacted the body after it received a letter stating the following must be implemented to transform school athletics to “reflect the demographics” of SA: At least 40% [participation] for all teams on all levels of competition, “with specific emphasis to girl athletes”; One athlete per event and age group must be from a previously disadvantaged community; The high school athletics quota system allows three athletes per event on merit.

“At least one athlete per event must be from the previous disadvantaged community which can be the fourth athlete in the event (no qualifying standard needed for this athlete).

The primary schools’ athletics quota system allows two athletes per

event on merit. “At least one athlete per event must be from the previous disadvantaged community which can be the third athlete in the event (no qualifying standard needed for this athlete).”

Democratic Alliance MP Darren Bergman commented: "While the DA believes completely in the diversity of our country and its sports, this topdown approach at enforcing change has a number of negative consequences.

These include reducing the level of competition at these events, pushing learners away from the sport if they cannot be chosen on merit and undermining the interest and support of sporting events."

He added: "We need to look at a bottom-up approach where the focus is on addressing resources, training, opportunity and facilities rather than a draconian top-down approach."

nspired by the good run of form his side enjoyed in the latter part 2018/19 season, Soshanguve Cricket Club head coach Thabang Rakgolela believes his side will manage to book a spot for the team in the spectacular Northerns Cricket Union’s (NCU) Premier league.

This as his side has its sight set on continuing with its good run of form in the annual NCU qualifiers. The league structure consists of 20 teams from different areas across Tshwane going-up against each other for a chance for a chance to play in the national platform.

The Soshanguve lad’s notable 2018/19 return to league was characterized by the side’s slow start to the season but managed to pick up the pieces towards the end of the campaign. The team ended season in a respectable position on the log.

He said despite all the difficult challenges his side had to encounter, his players managed to prove their mettle against some of the best team in the league; “Looking at the quality of players that we have, I believe that there is nothing that can stop us from qualifying yet again for the Premier League. The players have through-out the season shown their class, high levels of maturity and commitment to the game.”

He sang praise of his bowler Itumeleng Tsetsewa who had low economic rate and batsman Army Mavusu and Karabo Chilamramuwa’s good performance and consistency.

The side’s previous years meteoric rise throughout the years has given birth to Lions and Protea’s slow-left arm orthodox bowler Aaron Phangiso, Titans Bafana Mahlangu and international umpire Bongani Jele.

He believes the annual Soshanguve Cricket Day will bear good fruits for the side as his side wants to use the side to prepare for the qualifiers. On the day the internationally renowned Phangiso invites some of the best cricketers to do battle with the side on the crease.

“The day gives our players a chance to play and interact with some of the best cricketers in the country. This has done wonders for the side.

The players are able to gauge their strength and identify aspects of their games which they need to improve,” said Rakgolela.

The Soshanguve-based side a number of amateurs who are also making a name for themselves in the Titans colours.
