he Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tshwane, released a statement urging members of society to report any animal cruelty to them.

This comes after the centre received an emergency call recently, from Moruka Dibetso,

informing SPCA’s Inspector Andrew Kekana about a badly injured medium size donkey near his property. The location was identified as Pitswane Section, GaSeabe at Dr J.S. Moroka Municipality, which is near Bella Bella.

“I arrived round about midnight at the given location. Upon arrival at the tavern, I found the donkey, and assessed it. The donkey was still alive, lying on the street, but with both of the hind legs missing.

rate residents of Soshanguve in Ward 26 are calling for the MEC of Social Development in Gauteng Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe to place ‘the captured’ Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa Child and Youth Care Centre under administration.

This as they continue to make damning allegations of corruption, money-laundering, sex for jobs, child neglect and mismanagement of SASSA funds meant to take care of the needs of orphans, abandoned and neglected children against officials at the centre.

The residents of Block KK are accusing two senior officials (Tshwane Bulletin has their names) at the centre of working in cohorts with a local businessman to driving a sophisticated network of corruption.

“Jobs and contracts are sold, if you’re a female you have to offer sexual favours to get a job. Workers salaries are deducted by an unregistered employment agency ran by the so called ‘Business Forum’ which we as community don’t recognize.

“The so-called ‘Business Forum’ is like Gupta’s of our ward they seize every business opportunity in the centre. It controls every department in terms of procurement and awarding of small contracts which are supposed to benefit small business in the ward,” said community leader Sabelo

“Due to the fact that the donkey was in pain and suffering, a decision was taken to put the donkey down, as to stop the pain and suffering. The carcass was then removed and brought to the Society,”

Ntuli said they want an immediate suspension of two officials; “We demand immediate suspension of the two. Then the Hawks must investigate and arrest anyone who is found on the wrong side of the law. We want to know what happened to the investigations of the missing R 7 million.

He said the centre needs to provide a safe, protected and stable environment for children outside their families but they find themselves on the opposite end.

“The kids go to bed having eaten soya and bread and by chance they get a proper meal. Fridges that stores food for our children are empty. The so called Business Forum threatened and barred the Ward Councillor from entering the facility.

“We are aware that R 1 000 has been deducted from the security guards employed at the centre every month by the Business Forum. In order to get a business contract you need to pop out a certain amount of money,” said Ntuli.

They are accusing the Business Forum of selling a municipal land earmarked for a library and erection of a telecommunication facility.

“While we are prohibited from occupying land illegally, there is a certain individual who are selling municipal land. Today that land has been sold and turned into a scrapyard. The City of Tshwane served then with eviction notice but to this day nothing has happened.

Kekana told Tshwane Bulletin.

Kekana said: “We are still investigating the matter, and appeal to the public to assist us, should they have any further information related to the person who could have committed this act of cruelty. The Animals Protection Act no. 71 of 1962 clearly states that any person harms an animal shall be guilty of committing an offence. SPCA Tshwane will not tolerate such heinous crimes and they will be taken seriously in getting a conviction against the perpetrator(s).”

shwane Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance Mare Lise Fourie, said the city will fill the vacancy gap in their call centres in order to render quality service to the residents of Tshwane This comes after municipality informed its customers about the ongoing challenges on its Customer

Relations Management (CRM) system. This has affected occupational health and safety, human resources and ICT systems in turn affecting the operational efficiency of the call centres.

“These challenges have resulted in delays in answering calls, high call volumes, dropped calls and email backlogs”, said Fourie.

Plans are underway to address and resolve on these challenges.

This includes the relocation and integration of all three call centres,

filling of vacancies and corrective action to ensure a professional and acceptable turnaround time service to our customers.

The City of Tshwane has noted with great concern the statement made by the ANC Tshwane Regional Chairperson about the intention to visit Hammanskraal and bottle tap water onsite and serve it during tomorrow’s council seating.

The ANC Chairperson, Dr Kgosi Maepa, took to social media earlier this morning denoting his intentions to see if members of the Council would drink the “sampled” water since the City had claimed that the water is safe for human consumption. The City finds these claims as fatuous in character and seeking to incite the community of Hammanskraal to revolt against the municipality as the provider of water in the area.

“Subsequent to the instruction by the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation for the spheres of government to come up with preliminary intervention to deal with the continuing water challenge in Hammanskraal, the City of Tshwane has put measures in place to ensure that the Rooiwal plant has enough chlorine to disinfect water before it is recycled back into the river system”, said the Member of Mayoral Committee for Utility Services, Councillor Abel Tau.

The event featured multiple sporting activities such as aerobics, athletics, netball, cycling and soccer. Even with the Executive Mayor and some Members of the Mayoral Committee in absentia, the participants played their hearts out Firstly the netball game saw Tshwane Councillors ladies team pitted against the Tshwane Bus Services Ladies with the councillors emerging victorious by a score margin of 11-10 proving their mettle as worthy opponent.

On the soccer pitch it was the city’s top management team versus the councillors, the top management players started with a bang with the councillors having to play catch up, after the final whistle the top management walloped the

councillors 3-2.

The Tshwane University of Technology team, with players like former Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Katlego ‘Killer ‘ Mphela defeated the Sport and Recreation team 2-1.

“What the city is doing is really good, in order to keep the councillors healthy, they must do it regularly in order for them to perform at their peak,” said Mphela.

he Millionaire Academy recently hosted its Bitcoin Wealth Seminar at Goldrush Morula in Mabopane recently, introducing locals and those in attendance to Bitcoin, cryptocurrency mechanisms and in the process squashing claims that it is a scam.

Former Accountant and The Millionaire Academy founder Olivia Mushamba explained the intricacies of how it works the basics for a new user, how to get started with Bitcoin without understanding the technical details to the audience who had filled the conference hall to capacity eager to learn more about Bitcoin.

Terms such as Block chain which is a shared public ledger on which the entire Bitcoin network relies. All confirmed transactions are included in the block chain. It allows Bitcoin wallets to calculate their spendable balance so that new transactions can be verified thereby ensuring they’re actually owned by the spender. The integrity and

the chronological order of the block chain are enforced with cryptography.

Mining is a distributed consensus system that is used to confirm pending transactions by including them in the block chain. It enforces a chronological order in the block chain, protects the neutrality of the network, and allows different computers to agree on the state of the system.

“This is not a scam, you can search for Bitcoin on the South African Revenue System to authenticate it legality, if the Reserve Bank Governor Lesenyego Kganyago and former Finance Minister Melusi Gigaba can recommend it then you know that it is legit. The wealthy are withholding information to people but I am passionate about financial empowerment” said Mushamba.

Free Dental Checks to fight tooth decay

entadent P continued their partnership with SADA, volunteer dentists and the Department of Basic Education, by embarking on a two-week school visit outreach to provide learners at schools in Tshwane and Johannesburg with free oral health education and dental checks.

“The drive was a great initiative to promote oral health” Mentadent P believes that every smile matters, and nothing should get in the way of a child smiling. That’s why the brand is on a mission to build stronger teeth for the future, through the National Schools Hygiene and Sanitation programme, where, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, Mentadent P teaches oral hygiene education to over 1 million Grade 1 learners in over 15 000 primary schools, per year.

Over the past 2 weeks, passionate volunteer dentists donated their time and skills to provide free dental checks for children, with each

child who participated receiving a certificate and free toothbrush and toothpaste from Mentadent P. Those who required further treatment received a referral letter to take home to their parents. Promoters at the activations ensured children learned the importance of brushing everyday day and night to prevent tooth decay, which is one of the leading causes of absenteeism in schools.

“Oral hygiene is at the core of what we do, and ensuring that all children have access to oral hygiene education is what drives us at Mentadent P. We decided to conduct Free Dental checks in acknowledgement of National Oral Health Month this year, which is a great occasion to highlight the importance of oral hygiene proving to children across the country that their smiles do matter,” said Roxanne Lanz, Assistant Brand Manager, Oral Care, Unilever South Africa.

“We had a wonderful experience taking part in the Mentadent P #EverySmileMatters drive” said Dr Jacobie Claasen, one of the volunteer dentists from Pretoria.

“The drive was a great initiative to promote oral health. It created excitement amongst the kids, and we hope this enthusiasm will lead to better dental home care.”

In total, Mentadent P completed 655 dental checks and will continue to drive hygiene education through the National Schools Hygiene Programme as well as via the exciting new e-learning platform, Hygienica Castle.

SPCA in urgent need of funding

“Ever increasing month to month operational costs mustbe borne by society,”

he Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tshwane is currently experiencing severe financial difficulties and will have to downscale considerably, within a matter of days, if it does not receive emergency funding.

Notwithstanding prudent financial management, no debt, ongoing fundraising initiatives, and clean audited financial statements every year, SPCA Tshwane have been experiencing year-on-year decline in financial support as charitable giving suffers in tough economic times. “We are desperately looking for alternative sources of fundraising income, as our continued existence becomes more and more uncertain every day” says Jacqui Grove, Chairperson of the SPCA Tshwane Management Committee.

The Society does not receive any funding from government.

“Over the last couple years we have invested in a number of key projects aimed at creating a steady non-donation dependent income stream for our Society and to help us to become more self-sufficient, however, realising the benefits of these projects takes a little time, and while the projects mature our ever-increasing month-to-month operational costs must be borne by the Society, this, coupled with less and less donation income, has now depleted our resources and are in urgent need of funds, otherwise we face severe downscaling of the Society’s operations.

This is most disappointing for us and more so for the abused and neglected animals of Tshwane as we are convinced that our current financial challenges can be overcome and we believe in the future financial viability of our Society.” says Grove.

For months the SPCA Tshwane

has being trying to secure funding through a loan or significant donation to alleviate its short-term cash constraints, however all attempts have been fruitless. Grove says that SPCA Tshwane is now more than ever reliant on the goodwill and donations of the public to assist the Society in fulfilling its mandate,

and keeping their operations and facilities functional.

City of Tshwane rewards top drivers “TBS and other transport modes play a critical role in our economy,”

illiah Zwane, emerged victorious as the winner of the 2019 Bus Driver of the Year Award in the female category, and the winner of the male category, as well as the overall winner, was Jacob Kubeka as the City of Tshwane hosted the Tshwane Bus Services’ Driver of the Year Awards at C de Wet Bus Depot recently to conclude Transport Month.

These awards aim to improve the knowledge, skills and attitudes of professional drivers of heavy vehicles and ultimately to improve the standard of heavy-vehicle driving. The awards are part of the recognition programme by the City’s Roads and Transport Department to encourage substantial performance among Tshwane Bus Services drivers.

The Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Councillor Stephens Mokgalapa, congratulated all the nominees and encouraged them to continue igniting excellence and said “Allow me to start with a quote borrowed from one of the greatest man that ever lived, Mr Martin Luther King Jr. when he

H

is unique designed clothes are eye-catching and hard to ignore, when he hits the pathways, even people from his neighbourhood are in awe and curious to know where to get them and who designed his clothes, only to find out that they are his original creation.

Using mostly denim as his creative medium but not limited to it, 23 year – old Mpho Nkuna is not perturbed by the attention he gets for his designs instead he embraces the opportunity.

The former Information Technology student is the founder and Creative Designer behind the clothing brand “ParshCush” a vibrant and funky label which gaining traction on the streets of Boekonhout in Mabopane and its surrounding areas.

In 2013 while still at Mabopane High School he used to watch his sister create her own clothes by hand before she bought a sewing machine unbeknown to

him that the seed of his talent were being planted. He also started experimenting using his old jeans to hone his craft and hasn’t looked back since.

Using her sister’s sewing machine without her permission, the self- taught designer learned how to sew in order to give his designs a more polished look. He says some of his designs sometimes due to the creative process takes weeks to a month to complete. His clientele leave satisfied and give him freedom to suprise them with his design.

“I am inspired by Reason Vilakazi and Muzi of the clothing brand Konka Republic and also Moscow from Ga-Rankuwa who customises clothing. When I started it was not easy but I got the hang of it. Word of mouth has helped me market my clothes, I also use social media to market my brand and showcase them at events,” said Nkuna.

Sharing his future aspirations Nkuna said “In less than five years I want people all over South Africa recognising my brand, opening my own store and making money.”

outh Africa under-19 head coach, Lawrence Mahatlane, will not be under-estimating the challenge posed by their

group stage opponents, following the release of the schedule for 2020 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup to be held in South Africa early next year.

The host nation has been drawn in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 24-day tourna-

ment that will take place from 17 January – 09 February with Benoni, Potchefstroom, Kimberley and Bloemfontein named as host cities for the 16 teams.

South Africa will go up against Afghanistan in the opening match at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Friday, 17 January, followed by

ndoor Hockey begins its brave new world in South Africa as the Swiss Men and Women head to the home of the Rugby World Cup Champions for the first ever series played under the new rules of indoor Hockey. Under the new rules the matches will be four quarters of 10 minutes and that fundamental change throws up a variety of options for coaches.

Of course, it’s also a new world for the South African Indoor men, powered by Tops at SPAR for this series, as it’s the first time they are playing a home test match in almost five years and their first ever home indoor test series. Its also the first test series with David Joshua as the head coach and the country will be keen to see how him and the hordes of debutants go.

The SA Indoor Hockey Men, affectionately known as the BlitzStoks, have not played an indoor match since the 11th place playoff at the 2018 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup and many of those players aren’t involved in this series. The team have announced Jethro Eustice as their captain, and he will be one of the few that have played Switzerland before in a 3-1 defeat at the World Cup. The Swiss themselves will be preparing for the upcoming European Championship II at home in January with a clear goal on getting

clashes against Canada at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom and the UAE at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. Entry will be free for all spectators.

Upon the confirmation of the groups and fixtures, Mahatlane said his squad is looking forward to getting the tournament underway and points out the competitiveness of their group. He singles out their first opponents.

“This group is going to be a great test for the squad, playing in a home World Cup in front of our loved ones, we will be up for it. It’s

The Swiss side will be looking to bounce back from that series defeat to the South Africans and themselves will also have an eye on the Euro Hockey Indoor Championship 2020 in January in Belarus as they look to secure their spot at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup. going to be an unforgettable moment in these young gentlemen’s careers and I just want them to grab this opportunity with both hands.

gallant Banyana Banyana put up a great performance but were made to pay for two unforced mistakes as they lost 2-0 to hosts Japan in a friendly international match in Fukuoka recently.

Coming on the back of a heavy travelling schedule, Banyana Banyana could have salved this game in the second half but twice star striker Thembi Kgatlana was foiled – first by the upright and second was bundled off the ball when she was going for the kill.

But it is the two mistakes which ultimately cost the visitors who came back in the second half a different proposition altogether as they took the fight to the opponents.

Japan took the lead in the 20th minute, at a time when the game was finely poised when hardworking goalkeeper Andile Dlamini fumbled a harmless looking cross and striker Kumagai headed home the opener into an empty net.

uperSport United FC duo Sipho Mbule and Teboho Mokoena arrived in Cairo, Egypt to add to coach David Notoane’s South Africa’s National Under-23’s 15-man squad.

Notoane expressed his delight over the arrival of these two players, adding that they will certainly add value to his team building up to their second Group B match against Ivory Coast.

South Africa played to a 0-0 draw in their opening Group B match against Zambia, and will now lock horns with the West African on 12 October at the Al Salam Stadium.

That match will kick-off at 20h00.

“I am happy to state that both Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule arrived in perfect health building up to our second Group B match against Ivory Coast,”

Notoane said. “I must also commend my charges on how they played in our opening Group B match against Zambia on Saturday.

“We played really well, created plenty of scoring opportunities, however, goals could not come our way. We will continue working really hard in making sure that we push for a win in our next group match.”

Meanwhile, the coach revealed that both Cercle Brugge K.S.V striker Lyle Foster and Moreirense FC attacking midfielder Luther Singh will join the team this evening.

The coach added that he was looking forward to having these t w o extra players in camp, as they will have a massive impact in his preparations plans

leading to their match against Ivory Coast on Tuesday afternoon.

18-year old South Africa’s National Under-23 debutant Kegan Johannes says he feels honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility representing his nation in a major tournament such as the 2019 U-23 AFCON tournament currently ongoing in Cairo, Egypt.

The Cape Town-born right-back played his first 90 minutes for South Africa in their opening U-23 AFCON Group B match against Zambia, where they played to a 0-0 draw in what was a COSAFA derby held at the Al Salam Stadium on Saturday (09 November).

Johannes, who was exceptional in his role playing alongside the highly experienced and fellow Ajax Cape Town teammate Thendo Mukumela, captain and Olympian Tercious Malepe and former Under-17 and Under-20 international Katlego Mohamme, said this was one experience he would not trade anything for in this world.

The player also applauded his teammates for working together in a match he believes they deserved to win, adding that South Africa was just unlucky not to have walked away with a maximum points in that tie.

“Firstly, I would like to thank Ajax Cape Town for releasing to come and honour my national callu p and also to coach David Notoane and his technical staff for believing and giving me the chance to serve my nation at this level,” Johannes said. “I must be honest in stating that this has not sunk in as yet. I just cannot believe that I played my first match representing my nation at this level.

COSAFA U-20 provides perfect preparation

By Staff Reporter One feature of this year’s COSAFA Men’s Under-20 Championship will be how teams use the competition to provide a platform for their qualification for the 2021 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations that is scheduled to be hosted in Mauritania.

Although qualification for that tour-

nament will only start next year, teams will be eager to put in place the players and systems that they believe will get them to the continental finals.

It is why competitions like the COSAFA Men’s Under-20 Championship are so vital in terms of providing competitive international football for players

and coaches so that they may fine-tune their plans for continental qualifiers.

It is no surprise that South Africa’s success in reaching the last two FIFA Under-20 World Cups is off the back of them winning the COSAFA title for the previous two years.

The finals in Mauritania are

scheduled for February 6–18, which means next year’s COSAFA Men’s Under-20 Championship will also be vital preparation for those teams from the Southern African region who have qualified. Nine of the 14 COSAFA nations have qualified for the continental finals in the past, with Angola (2001) .
