According to a score of residents in GaRankuwa, a nursing staff at Phedisong 4 local Clinic demanded bribes in order to conduct Covid-19 testing. This came after the reduction of the Covid-19 test at two leading pathology laboratories in South Africa.

It all transpired after the industry stakeholders welcomed the announcement by the Competition Commission, after having reached agreements with Ampath and Lancet Laboratories to reduce their prices for the Covid-19 PCR tests for the next two years to R500 including VAT. However, this did not ease problems for residents from Ga-Rankuwa, who complained of persistent poor service from clinics in the area.

“A lot of local facilities treat our people badly, and foreign nationals even worse.

They will tell you that they only conduct Covid-19 tests from 7 in the morning to 10, and only for a certain number as prescribed by the government. Then they start turning people away in the queue.

“They eventually agreed to test her, but I know that she is going to struggle to get service from there moving forward, but this is very wrong, this simply means this is how they are treating other foreign nationals in need of tests and it’s wrong.”

The Health Department committed to investigate the claims and act accordingly.

Heavy rainfall dampen Christmas celebrations No loss of life or nor injuries that were reported throughout the incident

ith the heavy rains that persisted from the night of Christmas until the 27th of December 2021, few households around Hammanskraal and Zinthobeni reported incidents of flooding to the Tshwane Emergency Services Department.

Ramotse, Kanana, Marokolong including Mashemong villages are the areas that were affected by the floods. The firefighters assisted by digging trenches to channel water from the affected houses and also assisted in moving an elderly woman from a house where the water was at her knee level while other family of

five agreed to be moved to a sheltered at Sebothoma hall after being issued with blankets and mattresses.

Fortunately, nine houses that were involved in the flooding managed to be assessed by the Disaster management officials and one out of nine households agreed to be sheltered at Sebothoma Hall while others did not agree because of the concerns of their belongings being stolen, and some wanted to be sheltered at Suurman Hall which was not available as temporary shelter.

The situation was confirmed by the Tshwane Emergency Services Departments

Spokesperson Mr. Charles Mabaso, explaining how the Emergency Services tried and finally managed the flood situation.

“The Tshwane Emergency Services Department monitored the low water bridges that are known as hotspots and in Denneboom and also Tshwane Metro Police were activated to monitor the flooded roads and so far there were no loss of life or nor injuries that were reported throughout the incident and cases of the affected households that were allocated in the community and to the Social Development Department for further intervention,” Said by Mr. Mabaso.

Taxi drivers unite to stop robbers T A

axi drivers took to the street at Block KK in Soshanguve recently, to intensify their fight against crime brought by criminals masquerading as taxi operators in order to rob commuters after a number of cases were reported.

It was mentioned that the crime has been a nightmare to the community starting from August this year and the whole situation has brought so much fear to the community as a whole.

Some of the Tshwane taxi drivers joined the convoy at Block KK Park trying to raise awareness.

They made various stops at Batho Plaza Shopping Centre, then travelled to Mabopane Station and ended at Soshanguve Crossing, where they were preaching the awareness to the passengers and the community to be vigilant and also to try to avoid taxis with fake registrations.

Lucky Baloyi who was one of the Soshanguve taxi convoy organizers explained that they are trying their best along with the National Taxi Association (NTA) and South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) to fight against crime that is taking place in the taxi industry and for the safety of the community as a whole. ‘’ People has been complaining about the red venture that is terrorizing passengers. Taxi drivers in Soshanguve took to the streets to alert commuters about a red venture robbing their passengers as drivers because our passengers trust us with their lives and expect to reach their destinations safely. We vow to fight and get to the root of this problem.

SANTACO Tshwane spokesperson, McDonald Makata, mentioned that their members will be deployed on the roads to do stop searches. That’s to make sure that the commuters and operators are safe.

“We want commuters to know that we support them and we are against these

crimes.

Some criminals were arrested in Hammanskraal using a minibus that was not a taxi, but because they were using a minibus, people thought they were part of us. We hear rumors that these things are also happening in Ekurhuleni. People do not trust taxis anymore and they seem to use other modes of transport.

Meaning we lose our business to crime. People are using e-hailing services while we wait in the ranks. These crimes are hurting our business.’’ He added.

CoT warns about fireworks discharge during festive season

By Letlhogonolo Mosete editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za The City of Tshwane would like to inform persons wishing to present fireworks displays to apply to the Chief Inspector of Explosives (South African Police Service) for authorisation. No person may deal in fireworks.

It states that person must hold the required firework licence in terms of the Explosives Act, 2003 (Act 15 of 2003); and has the written authority of the Chief Fire Officer. Any person who wishes to obtain the written authority of the Chief Fire Officer to deal in fireworks, as contemplated in Subsection (1)(b) of the Explosives Act, 2003, must complete an application in the form and manner determined by the Controlling Authority; and submit it to the Chief Fire Officer with the prescribed fee at least 30 days before the authority is required by the applicant.

The following requirements must be adhered to before the application will be considered by the Fire Safety Section for the private discharge of fireworks on the premises. The area where the fireworks are to be discharged must be at least 100 m from buildings, roads and railway lines.The area where the fireworks are to be

discharged must be at least 20 m from telephone lines, telegraph lines, power lines, trees and overhead obstructions.

An area extending 50 m from the front and to the sides of the point at which the fireworks are to be discharged is to be clear of persons.The area to be kept clear for falling residue that is expected to drop from aerial fireworks must extend for at least 100 m to the rear of the discharge point.

The following are the requirements for such applications are as follows a sketch plan (scale 1:500) of the grounds on which the fireworks are to be discharged showing the following: a The position of the following in relation to the area where the fireworks are to be discharged: - The nearest buildings - The nearest road - The nearest railway line - The nearest telephone lines - The nearest telegraph lines - The nearest power lines - The nearest trees - The nearest refreshment area - The position of the area where the fireworks are stored before discharge b) The direction in which the fireworks are to be discharged with special mention of the prevailing wind direction c) The spectator area d) The area to be kept clear for falling residue expected to drop from the fireworks

Criteria used to grant written approval for the private discharge of fireworks • Written approval for the private discharge of fireworks will be given if it takes place on sport fields, agricultural holdings and other suitable open areas.

Local entrepreneur shot on Christmas laid to rest

I

t was a sad day for the Ntoane’s family, as friends and loved ones gathered at Hebron on the 31 December 2021 to pay tribute and their last respect to well-known entrepreneur ‘’Mjereza’’ whose real names are Oteng Jeremiah Ntoane, due to alleged murder.

The entrepreneur was shot to death on Christmas day by a police officer who later handed himself to the police station and remained under police custody until to date. The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

Jeremiah lived with his mother, grandmother, five siblings, and his two children. Family, friends were devastated as they paid tribute to ‘’Mjereza’’ at the heartbreaking affair.

Maria Mogoera who was a business partner and a very close friend to ‘’Mjereza’’ said that meeting someone like Jeremiah was a blessing as he was someone with a lot of brilliant ideas and not being afraid of taking risks. She learned a lot from him. ‘’ Honestly, it still feels unreal, but my friend lived his life to the fullest and I believe his legacy and spirit

That young man was so supportive and loving, he was not just a person, he was my superhero,’’ said his mother Eva Caroline Ntoane as she burst into tears.

His older brother by the name of Baldwin Ntoane continued his mother’s comments by saying that the family wants nothing but justice to prevail.

Shack blaze leaves family devastated Montsho is suspecting her ex boyfriend of having set their home on fire

scathing fire.

According to the devastated Joyce Montsho who is the owner of the burned shack, they were alarmed by a neighbour of the fire when her and three children were attending a Pens Down function at her brother’s place.

Upon arriving at their home, the shack was completely burned to the ground, together with all their belongings which included among others, a brand new bed, drawer, clothes, Identity Documents as well as cash to the sum of R3000.

When asked what may have caused the fire, Montsho revealed that she was suspecting her ex boyfriend of having set their home on fire as they were having continuous fights.

She revealed that the ex boyfriend who is also the father of her children has been allegedly threatening her with death, which makes her believe that he may have set their shack on fire to get back at her.

“I didn’t have stoves inside the shack, I only switched on the lights, so it was clear that the fire was started by a person on purpose. And the person I’m suspecting is the father of my children. Since breaking up with him on the 5th of December last year, he has been threatening me, telling me that something bad will happen to me this December,” she said.

She further added that when one of her children told the ex boyfriend that they would be going to a Pens Down function, he refused for him to

Montsho was grateful for an organization from Mamelodi who came all the way to rebuild her home, and also the support from the community for helping out with clothes and rebuilding of

the shack.

Since the shack was still in the process of being rebuilt, Montsho and her three children have had to stay with family members until their home was completely revamped.

She said, “At the moment we are just scattered, I have three children, so we are four in total. Two of my children had to go and stay with my brother, while me and my youngest child stay with my sister”.

Montsho pleaded with people to

help her as the family lost their Identity Documents as well as Social grants cards in the fire.

“Right now what I’m in desperate need of is to get help in getting new ID documents as my children’s IDs were in the shack, also a bed and blankets would really be appreciated,” she concluded.

Mahlangu scoops Mabopane Square Award

She further encouraged organisers to continue focusing on grassroots level

ounder and leader of Golden Youth Club, Nomatlou Mahlangu was one of the winners at the Mabopane Community Awards 2021, she was rewarded in the Best Performing Arts of the Year category.

Reflecting on the award, Mahlangu praised Mabopane Square for hosting such awards which she believed showed that they cared about the community and their impact in the centre.

“I have personally received a lot of awards on a national level, but never been recognised on a local level, so when we are recognised at home, it means a lot, charity begins at home. It was important, I’d like to thank Mabopane Square for organising these awards to show that they care about their community because it’s part of ploughing back from their side.

“As we are the ones, the locals who are supporting that Mabopane Square, we are bringing money into the Mabopane Square, so it shows that they care about the community by organising these awards so we’ll like to appreciate them a lot for organising these awards,” she said.

She further encouraged organisers to continue focusing on grassroots level and recognize local people who are making a difference in their various communities.

She said, “It is important for people to organise local township awards, even if it cannot be awards, but the recognition of people, not just young people, who are making an impact in the communities,

ARTS & CULTURE Golden Youth Club Founder Nomatlou Mahlangu is elated to be finally recognised on a local level by the Mabopane Square Awards because some of us have been working in the community for years without getting any funding, so when you are being recognised, it shows that people appreciate what you are doing. So the local support is really really important”.

Among some of the duties she does, Mahlangu is using the performing arts to teach children about various issues, including the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to bring peace and prosperity to all people by 2030.

“We reflect on them and turn thoughts into an artistic performance – whether it’s a song, dance or a play. Our aim is to convey that, regardless of where you come from, there is one language we can all understand,” said Mahlangu.

“For us to understand who we are and where we are going, we need to first

understand our history. As African people, our education is presented through the arts, hence our club even teaches the Sustainable Development Goals through the performing arts.”

In another education drive, the club took learners on a 10-day tour of Tshwane to teach them about climate change.

“During the tour, we visited seven regions to emphasise the message of keeping our environment toxin free,” she said.

With a vision of making performing arts more accessible to audiences in SA and across the world, Mahlangu said the club offers a variety of programmes including dance, music, poetry, theatre, visual arts, fashion design and peer education.

It partners with organisations in Germany, Ukraine, Malawi, Brazil,

Uganda, Egypt, Israel and Tunisia, and has travelled to some of these countries to learn about them and engage with their citizens on social issues.

Mahlangu said the arts has an important role to play in changing society and encourages parents and communities to expose children to the arts from a young age.

Her interest in young people was inspired by the African phrase ligotshwa lisemanzi, which, roughly translated, means it’s easier to train a child than an older person.

“We must encourage our children to utilise their talents, as they can be successful when they do so,” she said.

The club also promotes indigenous languages when members travel to other countries.

Dedicated Dr George Mukhari Hospital nurse celebrated

rofessional Nurse at Dr George Mukhari Hospital, Thandiwe Glentory Nene was celebrated for setting a record of 40 years of work attendance and not one day of absenteeism. The dedicated nurse finally hung her epaulets and was hugely acknowledged for her hardwork and dedication in her duties at the hospital.

Aged 65 years old, Nene has made it a norm at the hospital to come to work no matter the circumstances, which has earned her an impressive record of zero absenteeism in her tenure at the hospital.

As Nene bowed down from tending patients, the hospital’s acting Chief Professional Nurse Thandiwe Nene has a record of 40 years of work without absenteeism Executive Officer Tendani Mabuda

acknowledged her immense contribution with a trophy and a certificate.

Colleagues described Nene as a passionate, dedicated and hard working employee who will be missed.

She was appointed in 1981 and holds a Diploma in Child Nursing Science, obtained in 2004.

She once turned a patient’s hospital stay into an amazing experience by adopting the patient who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.

She has extended her helping hand towards staff members as she is currently funding computer training for two nursing assistants.

In 2013, Nene was rewarded with an excellent service award for best Nursing Category 2nd runner up and in 2018, she was rewarded with an excellent service award for best Nursing Category 1st runner up.

Both projects’ main aims were to champion the cause of women in all facets of the society and orphans including street kids. The velvet-voiced songstress is also a caring mother of three kids whose birthday is on 20 August. And every year this devoted Christian celebrates her big day with these homeless people and also visits orphanage centres.

Lady Inferno reflects on her journey as a Female DJ “I really admire myself as a DJ, I am actually the one motivating myself to keep pushing, because I’ve been through a lot as a dj...

While speaking to Tshwane Bulletin, Lady Inferno said, “Being a female DJ is hard. To be clear and honest, some event organisers are perverts, and after rejecting them, you won’t get gigs from them or the other event organisers that they know. It’s sad knowing that as female djs some of us have to use our bodies to get gigs, but even today still I took the hard path, my dignity is more important to me, I would rather have no gig at all than to give myself to a man who I’m not interested in just to score a gig. It happens to a lot of female djs and most of them keep quiet about it”.

Despite the challenges that come with being a female Dj, Lady Inferno said that she has always been passionate about music, further adding that she regarded it as a gift.

“Lady inferno is a brand that has been in the music industry for about 11 years now, I started playing in 2010 , I remember it just like yesterday. Right after my first lesson; DJ Kay9ine (the person who taught me how to play after being rejected by a dj who I won’t be able to mention due to the fact that I wasn’t financially stable to pay for lessons) took me to his gigs and started sharing them with me the first day he started teaching me,” she recalled.

She went on to say, “Few years later I went independent and started preparing my own music for gigs and volunteering at some gigs as it was difficult to get gigs without my teacher, but I still stayed because of the passion that I have for serving music to multiple crowds”.

Asked about the highlights of her journey as a Dj, Lady Inferno pinpointed the interview she had with TV show, Selimathunzi as well as being selected to partake in the DenimDieselFriday competition.

“I really admire myself as a DJ, I actually am the one motivating myself to keep pushing, because I’ve been through a lot as a dj but I’m still pushing so I can see myself achieving a lot from my music career and I have passion for it.

I would like to see myself being an international DJ at some point in my life but I have learnt that its not easy to make it for some of us.

“Being a dj comes with a lot of risks and doubts but staying true to who you are and believing in your talent is the best thing you could ever do for yourself,” Lady Inferno concluded.

Sosha FM presenter Meisie Motaung wins big at the awards

By Tshepiso Makgabutlane Meisie Motaung who is a Sports presenter at Soshanguve Community Radio station walked away with the Sports Presenter of the Year award at the Mabopane Square awards recently.

Born in Limpopo then moved to Pretoria earlier in 1975, Motaung has gone on to be a force to be reckoned in the sports media fraternity.

In an interview with Tshwane Bulletin, Meisie Motaung talked us through on her journey and how she got involved into sports presenting.

“2009 there was a game where abantwana junior national team was playing against Tanzania then I was called by Mahlomola Morake former Sabc employer, he called Rebecca Morotjo to be the announcer Rebecca then called me to be the announcer.

“It was my first game Mahlomola Morake prepared me and showed me what to do, what not to do and I did it perfectly so, after that’s where I realised that I have a talent,” she revealed.

SAFA was impressed with Motaung’s talent and recommended her as the national team announcer for women’s football.

“SAFA started to recommend me when the national teams of female are playing I will be the one to be called to come and be the match announcer for those international games”.

Motaung joined Soshanguve community radio station in 2017 as a Sports presenter and has since never looked back.

She said, “I joined Sosha FM in 2017 where I

was a sports presenter working with Eric , he taught me so much then he left moving to another station, I was left alone as the sports presenter and that’s where I have developed a lot of love and getting to interact with the important people and bringing the best into the studio and yeah that’s where my love as a sports presenter developed”.

Reflecting on winning the award, Motaung appreciated the recognition and said the award meant a lot to her .

“As I have won this award Sports presenter of the year award it means a lot to me cause I felt so much motivated and I was not aware that there are people out who recognise the talent I am having and I was not aware that people are monitoring what I am doing, ” she said.

She further revealed that the award has pushed her to work hard, “ The award has motivated me to work harder than before, I want to be the best sports presenter not ending up at Sosha FM but going to the bigger stations where I will be fully known but not forgetting where I will be coming from Sosha FM”.

Motaung thanked Mabopane Square awards organisers for the recognition and family for the support throughout her journey.

“Thanking Footballing for girls because those are the ones who have started this awards thanking them for acknowleding me, thanking them for seeing the talent that I am having and thanking God for the talent I have lastly my mom and younger sister those are my rocks and Queen,” added Motaung.

She also had some words of encouragement to youngsters out there who dreams of becoming sports presenters.

“When I motivate the young ones I always say follow your dreams and if you doing what you like you need to go beyond the working call so I prefer to be the change I want to see, I don’t want to mislead the people who look up to me,” she concluded.

HALFA hosts Coaching Workshop for local coaches

sport Coaches go through their paces at the HALFA coaching workshop

ne of the most exciting things about coaching is the buzz you get when you are pushed out of your comfort zone to come up with a plan and put it into action.

Hammanskraal Local Football Association (HALFA) successfully hosted a Coaching Workshop at the Mandela stadium club house recently. The workshop aimed at developing local coaches and giving them a platform to improve on their coaching skills.

General Secretary of the association, Joseph Hanyane NEWS revealedCITY why they hosted this workshop and also what they looked to achieve from it.

“The coaches workshop

was part of our year plan that a workshop should be held so that these coaches can understand their role in developing these young boys,” he said.

Hanyane was pleased with the turnout at the workshop talking on the number of coaches they hosted.

“The turnout was positive, there were only two clubs out of seventeen clubs that didn’t attend due to commitments. As the association we were happy how the workshop went, coaches were able to share information that other coaches didn’t know,” added Hanyane.

The association plans on hosting a D license coaching course in March next year and Hanyane revealed both

coaches and the association are excited and looking forward to it.

“The positive thing is that the coaches want to be qualified by attending a coaching course which we agreed to host next year during the whole of March at Mandela stadium.

Application to host the course have been made and submitted to the region. The standard of football will improve locally imagine taking your kids to school were teachers are not qualified,” he said.

He lastly pointed out that having more of these workshops will improve the standard of football locally, further urging coaches outside the association to also be a part of the planned course.

n partnership with Youth Empowerment ambassadors, Winterveldt Netball association hosted its annual Winterveldt Netball Club Tournament at the Winterveldt multipurpose Hall recently, where all divisions teams from different parts of Winterveldt took part in the tournament.

Tebogo Nhlapo, Founder of Winterveldt Netball Association and Youth Empowerment ambassadors organisation revealed in an interview with Tshwane Bulletin the motivation behind hosting the annual tournament.

“What motivated the association to host tournaments it’s that we saw in Winterveldt there are teams that play netball just for fun but as the association we saw that it’s a need to develop kids and teams to become the best in their sporting field,” said Nhlapo.

She opened up on how difficult it was for the association to host the tournament as they had to overcome some challenges.

“All I can say it’s that with God’s grace we managed to pull out good results. It was hard I don’t want to lie

because if you don’t communicate with the teams, some pull out and what you have to do is to update them more,” she added.

Despite the challenges Nhlapo was pleased with the support from the community of Winterveldt during the tournament.

She said, “The support from the community was awesome and I didn’t know that we can get such huge support, parents came to see what their kids are

doing and they were so happy. Kids were well taken care of during the tournament and thanks to sponsors, players were able to get some fruits and refreshments while the winning teams were able to get a trophy”.

“We managed to get trophies, medals and fruits for kids and they came as donation from a stakeholder I can’t mention their name and everything went well with the team I work with,” Nhlapo added.

She further emphasized her satisfaction of how the tournament went, adding that the association was looking forward to host more of such tournaments going forward.

“Now we are aiming to do better next year and host lots of tournaments , do workshops for teams , do mentorship programs for teams and again manage to work with different schools and develop netball,” she concluded .
