he Rietgat SAPS continued to rid bad elements off the streets of its precinct in Soshanguve by arresting and charging 57 suspects for the commission of various crimes recently.

Amongst the transgressors, some were arrested for the commission of offences inter alia: common assault, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, while others were apprehended for possession of drugs, theft out of motor vehicle, driving without licence, business robbery, theft, contravention of protection order, common assault, pointing of firearm, resisting arrest, rape, burglary at residential premises and drinking in public.

The Station Commander of the Rietgat SAPS, Brigadier Ramakamakama Kekana, lauded men and women in blue for walking an extra mile in ensuring that wanted suspects are apprehended and charged.

The Brigadier went further to extend his gratitude to the community members for their continued support in informing the police about the criminal activities and the whereabouts of wanted suspects in the precinct.

All arrested suspects will soon appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court

he Gauteng provincial Department of Water and Sanitation (DSW) and the City of Tshwane remain at logger heads over the quality of water delivered Hammanskraal.

This as the City of Tshwane

continues to assure the residents of Hammanskraal that the water supplied is per set standard and is drinkable.

DSW spokesperson Sputnik Ratau, continues to voice the department’s displeasure over the quality of water supplied by the municipality.

This comes after Tau joined officials from DWS, South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and community representatives in a follow-up water sampling visit at Temba Water Treatment Plant, Kekana Primary School and Refentse Clinic amongst others.

The visit followed a complaint lodged with the SAHRC in 2018 by the residents of Hammanskraal over the quality of water supplied by the municipality.

“As a City that is committed to the delivery of high quality services, of which the provision of water is but one, it is prudent for us to undertake this visit as part of an on-going process of sampling water throughout the City supplies water.

We would like to assure our residents in the Hammanskraal and nearby areas that the City in cooperation with DSW and SAHRC, will make every effort to ensure that the water quality stays 100% compliant. In addition, the results of the water samples will be made known to the residents, as we are an administration that is open, honest and responsive,” said Tau. In the meanwhile Ratau said only once the investigations are completed they would be able to assure the residents that water is safe to use.

“We can’t take chances or simply listen to anyone on the quality of water supplied. Currently we have to wait for the result of the test to be released. The fact of the matter is that we are not happy with the quality of water.

Tau lashed out at media reports on numerous on-line platforms which seemed to suggest that some monitoring points had challenges with colour, turbidity, ammonia and general microbiological determinants.

“The City disapproves this notion on the basis that officials present mutually agreed that the water colour is acceptable. Officials went to drink and smell the water, once again found it to be suitable for drinking.

The samples are currently at CSIR for microbiological, chemical and physical analysis expected to be released in the next coming weeks.

a-Rankuwa City shopping complex security has warned shoppers to be wary of a scam that has targeted vulnerable women at the shopping centre recently.

The half-price/discount scam is the oldest trick in the book, yet vulnerable shoppers are falling victim to this sneaky criminal tactic. The modus operandi is to approach and inform shoppers that they can get them what they want at a lower price from various stores. Victims get manipulated and get robbed of their belongings.

They hide the fact that they were scammed by people who posed as people who are able to get them discount on certain products. Each day we check our daily occurrence book where we check all the happenings and there has not been incidents reported of toilet robberies.

We encourage our shoppers to be alert to such scams as these activities are prevalent in many shopping centres across the nation,” said Maloka.

One on one with Tshwane MMC for Housing and Human Settlement Cllr Mandla Nkomo MMC, we understand that the City has a backlog of Title Deeds that need to be collected by beneficiaries, but first we need to understand in simple terms what is a Title deed?

It is an official and legal document that proves that you are the rightful owner of a stand or house.

Why must I have a title deed?

This is the document that proves that a house or a stand is yours. It will be needed when you sell your house, apply for a loan to renovate or upgrade your house or even submit housing plans if you are planning to extend your house. This document should be kept in a safe place. Should this document be lost or misplaced financial implications will be applicable for the replacement of this document and you will pay for it.

How can I find out if there is an uncollected title deed registered in my name?

You may visit a Housing Office nearest to you. (the list and addresses of the offices are listed below)

Who should collect a title deed?

Beneficiaries reciving title deeds from the City of Tshwane

The person who has been allocated a house with their name appearing on the title deed. Only a registered person/ owner of a house or stand can collect a title deed.

What do I do when no one has been appointed as the heir and/or executor, what

The registered person should take their green bar-coded ID book OR Smart Card along when visiting a Housing Office (as listed below)

The house was given to my father/ mother/ aunt/ sister, etc. What will happen now?

The first thing is to ensure that someone should be appointed to be the heir and/or executor of the Will of the deceased.

The heir/executor will then submit a letter of appointment issued by the Magistrate office/ Master of the High Court to the same office.

The heir/Executor must also have his/ her ID book/ Smart Card with him/ her and the death certificate of the deceased.

The family member(s) of the deceased must visit one of the Housing Offices. They will be given a letter to take to the Master of the High Court. This letter will request the Master’s Office to appoint an executor/ executrix for them.

They will then submit the appointment letter along with the deceased’s death certificate and the Executor’s ID book/ Smart Card to collect the title deed.

We have so far issued 9800 (Nine thousand eight hundred) title deeds throughout the City.

I understand that you will be issuing title deeds in Hammanskraal on Saturday 29 June, how many beneficiaries are going to receive them?

We have prepared to issue 542 title deeds in New Eersterust if it happens that all the invited beneficiaries honour our invitation otherwise those who, for reasons beyond their control, are unable to come, they can still visit our Housing Office in Temba for collection.

Any message to those who have not collected their title deeds or those who are uncertain as to whether their title deeds are ready for collection or not?

I want to urge all residents of government-subsidised houses throughout the City to visit their nearest regional office to check if their title deeds are ready for collection or not. Remember, a title deed gives you the security of tenure and confidence over your property. The house you’re living in is not your house until you have a tile deed.

Investigation into violation of patient rights not conclusive

he South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) probe into allegations of human right abuses at Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital’s psychiatric unit is inconclusive.

This was revealed by the commissions Provincial Manager Buang Johns, during team’s recent inspection of the facility.

This follows complaint launched by the Public Service Association (PSA) into allegations of overcrowding, shortage of beds, blankets and ablution facilities.

This as some mental health

care patients are said to be sleeping on the floor and red flag raised on the shoddy work by contractors’ tasked with the renovation of the unit.

Jones said the commission will have to get an independent opinion into the impact of the refurbishment on the patients before he could make further pronouncement.

“The hospital is not in a dire straits, but I cannot say I am satisfied with what I saw. We still need to get an independent opinion on the state of the hospital and how the renovations are impacting on the patient’s health. We want the hospital to fast-track the renovations and deal with the shoddy work by the contractor.

We cannot say there are

enough beds for the patients because the hospital was informed beforehand about our visit and had enough time to prepare. As the commission we will conduct an unannounced visit at the facility in the near future to determine if there are enough beds or if the patients care complied with the set norms and standards,” said Jones.

The hospital CEO Professor John Ndimande conceded that that the hospital faced numerous challenges; “We had problems with our psychiatric unit but we are working hard to resolve them. We have also seen improvement with some of the contractors work and believe that it will be complete soon.”

With the winter season on the horizon, it becomes more difficult and scary to go out because criminals have the perfect opportunity to commit crimes unseen,” said Selepe.

Another resident Tebogo Molobi said the metro has turned a blind eye to this issue and many others despite the fact that most of them pay for services. “It is the duty of the municipality to look after these lights.

We don’t know what to do anymore because it seems like our grievances have fallen on deaf ears. We have reported to councillors and the municipality but there’s no assistance. We have lost all hope that things will ever improve on this front,” said Molobi.

Ward 30 councillor Jabulani Rammushi said the non-functioning streetlights have been a problem faced by the City of Tshwane for a while now. “The municipality has begun work on the main roads. They are busy with the Mangope Highway which stretches to areas such as Soshanguve, Winterveldt, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa.

he global intercultural learning and community exchange programme, American Field Service (AFS) recently launched its Soshanguve Chapter of the movement.

The Chapters are the engine room of AFS in which volunteers are able to donate their time, energies to perform acts of goodwill.

Started in America after World War II, the movement seeks help people to act as responsible global citizens who are working towards peace and understanding of the world.

Thus by bringing high school students from over 80 countries to live with families in a foreign country were they are exposed to new customs, values and challenging them to reflect on their own cultural norms.

The Chairperson of the Soshanguve Chapter Ntombizodwa Maphanga said it will enable more participants to not only develop a deeper understanding of a different culture but allows them to develop a deeper awareness of their background.

“The intercultural programmes send and host high school students from

different countries through bilateral contact and community exchange service.

The participants are exposed to new customs, values that challenge their own norms.

This helps one to develop a richer understanding of their culture and help them to strive to work towards global peace. As AFS we believe that by stretching out your hand a person can help change the world for the better,” said Maphanga.

Maphanga has in the past hosted a Grade 11 Italian student who went to Memezelo High School in Soshanguve; “With her I have developed a mother and daughter relationship. She is able to confine in me when she needs someone to talk to.

esearchers at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have urged young people to use their technological knowledge and skills as an advantage to thrive in the digital revolution.

“Nobody understands technology better than us [young people] and that is an advantage. This is the right time for youngsters to show the world that we are ready to lead. Let’s take the opportunity and make it work for us,” CSIR researcher in computer vision, Windy Mokuwe said.

Mokuwe, joined by CSIR Master’s student in robotics Nomfundiso Khuma and CSIR senior researcher Dr Monnamme Tlotleng, briefed members of the media on the impact, opportunities and future skills required by young people to thrive in the rise of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) at the CSIR on Wednesday.

Mokuwe’s research work focuses on machine learning.

She said the 4IR would require complex autonomous actions from mobile machines.

“Technologies that drive change in the machine learning industry include the Internet of Things, additive manufacturing and cloud computing,” Mokuwe said.

The CSIR is working on a number of projects and models for robotic operations. The Intelligent Workcell is one of the projects that uses state-of-theart machine learning methods for object recognition and autonomous pick and place, using a robotic manipulator arm.

The team is also developing the ability for a robot to learn to perform new action sequences that it gets through demonstration.

The CSIR has also developed the Autonomous 3D Navigation, a robot system that can move between indoor and outdoor environments and navigate autonomously in either, without assistance from GPS. The robot performs autonomous exploration and mapping of its environment and transmits the information wirelessly to a remote operator console.

hile embracing their love handles, big thighs, stomachs, stretch marks and cellulites, a group ‘self- loving big of women’ recently marched across the streets of Hammanskraal condemning those who make a mockery out of other people’s body shapes and sizes.

They criticised a societal hierarchical pyramid which position people on social standing based on their appearance sense of self-worth.

A participant in the march Reneilwe Paile said they want to build up women selfworth and accept themselves in the way they were created by God. “We say all types of bodies are beautiful and we need to start loving ourselves whether you are big or thin. Unfortunately society has created a hierarchical infrastructure based on appearance and one’s self-worth. As fat people we have for a long time been placed at the bottom of societal and people have been okay

with this.

“The truth is, as much as society likes to bang on about fat people losing weight for the ‘good health’ if there were to be no such thing as ‘fatness’, ‘normal size’ people would be forced to take a look at their own shortcomings and inadequacies, which would be a ridiculous thought to someone who is ‘normal’ seeing as superiors to others,” said Paile.

They felt that they now had the authority to comment on my weight. I’m still often told that I will be contacting diabetes or joints and limps will start to deteriorate when I get old.

he pursuit of a healthy lifestyle was top on the agenda as Botshilu Private Hospital and its Subsidiary BMR held an open day at Block DD in Soshanguve recently. The main aim was to impart tips pertaining to healthy living amongst residents and services being offered by the health institution.

One of the pivotal tips shared on the day was the emerging trend amongst clients using unregulated supplements as a quick solution to shed weight instead of going the old fashion route of a healthy diet and correct exercising methods.

Different medical service stands from Dentistry, Optometrist, Audiology and Medical were in full swing imparting valuable information to those in attendance.

Dietician Vusi Sape said “We have seen an emerging trend whereby people opt for unregulated supplements as a quick way to lose weight and in the process put their wellbeing at risk.

Weight loss is a continuous process and there is not a quick fix solution to that. We advise people to consult their dietician who can assist them in drawingup a well balanced weight loss program.

Also there is this misconception amongst black people that healthy foods are expensive but that is the wrong notion, because it is not about the food but about how they are prepared.”

“People think having a gym membership is a guarantee to weight loss but forget that hard work is involved in that process and renege to their old habits which lead to weight gain thus rendering

GYC is a young dynamic project with a vision to make performing arts more accessible, to audiences in South Africa and across the world by constantly exploring new creative ways of bringing out the true essence of education in

schools and also in communities.

Explaining the creative process the group goes through Mahlangu said “We always focus on issues that affect our learners on their daily lives. We reflect on them and turn our thoughts into artistic performance, whether it’s a song, a dance or a play, our aim is to convey that, regardless of where you come from, that is one language we can all understand.”

he Society for the Prevention of Cruelty on Animals (SPCA) has issued a stern warning to dog owners, to take care of their dogs, this comes after a nine year-old girl was mauled to death by a pitbull at Serope Section in Mabopane recently.

The failure by owners to secure their dogs, poorly fenced yards and ill treatment of their dogs are some of the reasons attributing to the animals being found roaming the streets freely in the process putting innocent people’s lives in danger Following the unfortunate incident the Mabopane Social Crime division and the SPCA held a meeting relating to incidents of community members being viciously attacked by dogs under the animal protection act 71 of 1962 and animal amendment act 42 of 1993.

Dog owners should take responsibility for their dogs’ action as they are under their care.”

Matlou further said “We advise dog owners to make sure that their properties are well fenced and that the dog is well taken care-off, so that it doesn’t freely roam the streets posing as a danger to people The State Vetenerian Dr. Faculty Baloyi said “If a person gets bitten by a dog they should clean that bite with clean water they can use soap too and immediately seek medical help at their local clinic or hospital in order to be treated for Rabies.

After getting treated for the bite they can contact the State Vetenarian Office and the SPCA so that we can establish the Rabies status of the dog.”

Technological water plant sets roots in Ga-Rankuwa

ith water being a scarce resource in South Africa, bordering on being a national disaster, Aquaair a company utilizing atmospheric water generating technology to produce water and solve the rising water scarcity crisis has set shop at the Ga-Rankuwa Industrial Zone to be part of the solution to the ongoing problem

Atmospheric water generating technology involves harnessing humidity from the air causing condensation and then the water is filtered and UV sterilized, the end results being pure drinking water.

Having refurbished an old t-shirt factory and turning it into a water plant, the company in the process created employment opportunities for locals.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer Ms. Keamogetswe Matsho during a radio interview said;“With numerous unavoidable environmental realities such as growing temperatures and scarce rainfall which have resulted in drying of lakes and river fronts thus causing a shortage of water; we have taken a stance to be part of the solution. We do this by utilizing atmospheric water generating technology to produce water and solve the rising water scarcity crisis.”

“Nearly 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease. Our technology addresses the rapidly increasing potable water shortage that is a result of contamination (pollution of our water sources) and the depletion of our natural water reserves,”said Matsho.

Matsho further said; “From the inception of our company to the commissioning of Africa’s first atmospheric water plant; throughout our value chain, we have placed a strong emphasis on our people and our planet. We have worked with passionate individuals and SMEs who needed the platform to showcase their capabilities through the construction of our factory.”

We have strategically placed our factory in the previously disadvantaged community so that we not only join the conversation of resurrecting forgotten industrial areas; we have come to lead it. We have employed a number of community members and have made use of

the services provided by local small businesses within our community. Our unapologetic stance is driven by the need to look beyond profit and to look at becoming a responsible global citizen that is in touch with other socio-economic plagues such as unemployment.

ewly appointed Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, MEC Kgosientso Ramokgopa has hit the ground running like fish to water, this comes after he visited all corners of the Gauteng province as part of his outreach program and first 100 days in office.

He firstly paid Ms Zanele Thalitha Ntuli from Winterveldt a visit. She is the Chairperson of the YARD in Gauteng Province, She started farming in 2014, currently farming on a 6.2 ha in Winterveldt, has 3 tunnels of 30 m x 10 m. She specialises on spinach, kale, beetroot, green pepper and green beans alternating from one season to another Ramokgopa utilizing the power of social media took to Twitter and wrote “This morning I visited a youth-owned farm in Winterveldt.

The small holding enterprise is owned by Ms Zanele Thalitha Ntuli who is an agricultural studies graduate from Tshwane University of Technology, with a B Tech Animal Sciences qualification plus short courses in crop production and financial management. Ms Ntuli is currently farming on a 6.2 ha piece

AGRICULTURE of land, employing seven people and supplying local businesses with her produce. We are going to increase our support of agriculture in Gauteng, to ensure it contributes significantly to the GDP, food security and employment creation of the province.”

“I will be meeting and engaging the Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni district farmers as part of the harvest day celebration. This is part of my outreach program, as the MEC for Economic Development, Environment,

Agriculture and Rural Development, for my first 100 days in office.”

During this stakeholder engagement meeting, I will be interacting with farmers of various commodities like grain, poultry, piggery and livestock in the agricultural sector. The farmers will also have an opportunity to engage me as the MEC on their successes and various challenges in ensuring food security and job creation for the Gauteng province.

25 children from Sibongile, Phuthaditjhaba, Kopano Nkoketse and Umusa Day Care Centres were educated about children’s rights, child trafficking, child abuse, child labour, rape and abduction as the Rietgat SAPS once again embarked on a road show, to reach out to the younger populace in an effort to observe the 22nd National Child Protection Week.

The station formed part of the National Child Protection Week’s event held at Sibongile Day Care Centre in Block FF Soshanguve recently.

National Child Protection Week aims to raise awareness of the rights of children. The campaign is observed under the theme ‘Let Us Protect All Children to Move South Africa Forward’.

The station Spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said “We were joined by different departments which included Department of Correctional Services, Social Development, and Department of Health together with the Tshwane Emergency Medical Services. The children were also taught to recite and memorise the Crime Stop number 0860010111, so that they get accustomed to it in order for them to blow the whistle as and when danger looms.”

“Furthermore, we visited Kgotlelelang Primary School In Block T, where 178 learners and 78 parents were addressed on moral decay, bullying, domestic violence, unruly behaviour, dangerous weapons and substance abuse. The parents were also urged to get involved in their children’s education not only by buying books and uniforms but by also helping them with school work while observing their change in behaviour and attitude,” said Maluleka.

GCIS remembers learners with special needs

he Chief Director of GCIS Moepeng Tshwane has expressed the 6th administration’s plan to extend a helping hand and reach out to more the most vulnerable members of the society.

Tshwane was speaking during the entity’s program which sought to enable both the physically and visually impaired learners

at Filadelphia Secondary School in Soshanguve to catch the first hand glimpse of President Cyril Ramaphosa inauguration.

Ramaphosa’s inauguration coincided with Africa Day, which marked 56th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity.

“I was encouraged to see that learners were excited to form part of this august occasion in our country. The disability sector feels marginalized, and as the GCIS, we are reaching out to them. They should be privy to the policies of government.

It is the new dawn. Everybody needs to have a sense of belonging. This was evident when in the visuals we watched,” said Tshwane.

‘Matwetwe’ actor Tebatso Mashishi, applauded GCIS for thinking about the vulnerable members of the society; “ It is good that that the GCIS wants to connect learners with special needs with what is happening in the country.

This will allow them to learn who is in power and the decision that are being made by the government.”

expressed gratitude over GCIS organised a big screen for learners to watch the inauguration; “I am very thankful that our kids were given this opportunity, given the fact that they wouldn’t be able to go to the Loftus Versveld Stadium were the inauguration took place.

They would have needed to get transport to take them to the stadium and our buses are currently broken.

TUT student Lydia Makhubela said she was grateful that the learners had an opportunity to learn about the president’s plans for the country.

weeks experienced an increase in the number of robberies on taxis. But since our interaction with owners we have seen a slight decrease in the number of robberies. We applaud the owners for helping us to try and ensure that commuters get home safe.

Their stop and search operations are now bearing fruits as criminals know that there are people waiting for them on the road. They used to target taxis travelling at night because they knew that it will be difficult for the driver to get help. They would point a gun at the driver take all his money while their accomplices would rob their commuters of their money and cellphones,” said Nkoadi.

“We encountered a lot of problems. But we managed to overcome them. For example, when players had to write tests,
