Man robbed R 210 000 by fake traditional healer “Unsuspecting man was accompanied to the bank by the healer”

By Letlhogonolo Mosete editorial@tshwanebulletin.co.za

58 year-old man was conned R210 000 by a traditional healer in Mabopane Station after being told that his pension money was cursed and needed to be prayed for According to the police the victim an old local man was partially healed of complications he suffered after having paid R10 000 to one of the traditional healers.

His ordeal however, had just begun since he was given his money back after it had been prayed and later was told to bring more since he was cursed with the money, therefore the healer required more cash to cast everything out. The poor unsuspecting man went to the bank accompanied by the "healer" to withdraw a whopping R210 000 for it to be prayed for, and he handed it to him for prayers and was told to return the following day and everything will be back to normal and he will have a clean bill of health. The poor man obliged, when he came back the following day the healer was nowhere to be found and his cellphone was off. Rietgat Spokesperson Captain Stephen

Maluleka said; ‘‘As Rietgat SAPS would like to warn the community and visitors who frequents the Mabopane Station about foreign traditional healers who are targeting unsuspecting senior citizens who have just received their pension payouts from their former employers.” Although some senior citizens gets "traditional assistance" the consultation process often results in unsuspecting poor citizens getting conned and milked their hard earned life savings money by these foreign healers. “As the SAPS, we understand that traditional healing processes are often peculiar and very discreet in nature, but we would like to warn our community not

to fall for healers that are too good to be true. It has come to our attention that some victims, visited these dodgy and dingy shacks around the Mabopane Station under the hypnosis that they will get rich quick or be exorcised off evil spells,” said Maluleka. As the police, we would like to reiterate that the community must refrain from dubious practices but instead resort to the old ways of consulting to traditional healers who stays in their own houses and known by the community they live in. It should also be noted though that our aim is not to besmirch loyal and credible healers but to protect the community from charlatans.
