Changing your registration
Need to Change Your Class Registration? Here’s What to Know:
If you’re thinking about dropping a class, it’s important to do it the right way. Simply not showing up won’t automatically drop you, and that can cause problems down the road. Up until 4 p.m. on the Friday of Week 1, you can easily drop a class online and get a full refund on your tuition and fees.
Starting Monday in Week 2, any changes to your schedule, whether adding or dropping a class—will need to be done using a paper form with your signature. If you drop without adding the same number of credits, you might only get up to a 50% refund. And don’t forget there’s a $50 late fee for registration changes during Week 2.
After Week 2 (the 10th day of the quarter), things get a bit trickier. You’ll need to submit a petition to add or drop a class, and there’s a $100 late fee.
But don’t worry, TRIO is here to help!
If you’re unsure about the process or need help making changes, your TRIO advisor is just a message away.
One last thing: If you receive financial aid, keep in mind that dropping below 12 credits could lower the amount of aid you receive. Make sure to check with Financial Aid before making changes!

TRIO Study Tip for Winter Quarter
Welcome back to school, everyone. As you start a new quarter, it may be helpful to spend some time examining a big but underutilized component of academic life: your learning style.
Most of the time we default to the learning style that the teacher or professor prefers. This is quite often the read/write learning style, which passes information through, you guessed it, reading and/or writing. An issue with this, though, is that for some students their preferred learning style is altogether different. Thus, it's helpful for all students to create an inventory to see exactly which learning style, or styles they need in order to be more successful.
First, though, we should run down the learning styles:
Read/write: this one is upfront, as well as being the dominant learning style used in academia.
Auditory: the student learns best when information is passed to them through spoken words. This can be a lecture, a podcast, or one-on-one time with a teacher. It can also mean reading a book or article out loud or recording notes and playing them back to study.
Visual: the student learns best when information is conveyed in a visual form, such as graphs, documentaries, and charts. It can also mean that they use multiple colors to take notes or use images within the notes when possible.
Kinesthetic: the student learns best by "doing." They want to use their senses while learning or act out the actions described to learn it on a different level. They want real life examples in their notes, which help them understand the information better. Another aspect of kinesthetic learning is to use practice tests, so that the student can prepare for the full experience of the upcoming exam.
Consider spending a little bit of time to find your learning style. By doing so, you may unlock an easier way for you to retain information. (And by reducing the stress of studying, you can excel by leaps and bounds.) One way to find your learning style is to take a quiz. There are several out there on the internet, but we prefer The VARK questionnaire. Just remember that you can pick more than one answer per question, as this will give you a better idea of which learning styles work for you.
If you'd like to discuss your learning style further and find out how to change your current style to better fit your needs, please reach out to your TRIO advisor.
