Homecoming Tailgate at the MSU Chapter House
The active chapter welcomed seven new brothers in the Fall 24 semester. We look forward to seeing them grow as leaders and make an impact on the chapter!
This year, new scholarships will be available for current active brothers. The Triangle Education Foundation (TEF) has approved the chapter’s proposal to use the Chapter Endowment Fund (CEF) for three scholarships to be available to current active brothers.
ACTIVE CHAPTER UPDATES
Fall 2024 Initiation Class
The Academic Excellence Scholarship, Sean Powers Leadership and Excellence Scholarship, and Service to the Community Scholarship offer brothers the necessary financial support for their hard work and dedication in and outside of the fraternity.
The chapter has also recently brought back the tradition of Sunday meals. In order to spend more time as a brotherhood, we are offering a donations-based meal to all brothers before chapter.
Most important, we are very happy to announce that brother Evan Bean (msu21), who on January 4, 2024 was diagnosed with B-cell acute leukemia, is now in remission as of October! Evan has shown tremendous strength and vulnerability in his recovery, and we would like to thank everyone who showed support and hope to welcome him back when he is ready.
Splitting the Alumni Association & Active Chapter
Last year, the Alumni Board decided to separate the Alumni Association from the active chapter Previously, the actives and the alumni organization were considered the same entity. As a result of this change, the Alumni Association now has its own EIN and separate IRS requirements to maintain nonprofit status. Recently, the Alumni Association officially submitted paperwork to regain its nonprofit tax status
Changes to Alumni Association Structure
Over the summer, a vote was passed to restructure our Alumni Association by consolidating the number of elected positions. The Chair of the Housing Committee role was merged into the President's responsibilities, making the President the primary point of communication between the active chapter and TBHC. Since TBHC often worked directly with the President on various issues, this change was a logical step
This change allows us to separate financial assets from the active chapter. Now, our focus shifts to the active chapter and the process of regaining its nonprofit status. Since reinstating nonprofit status for an existing organization is more complex,
The President will now oversee the Housing Committee, providing opportunities for other alumni interested in supporting the active chapter’s housing efforts to get involved.
The rest of the board remains unchanged, with four elected positions: Vice President, who continues to oversee alumni events and engagement; Treasurer; Secretary; and Chair of the Membership Development Committee (MDC). The MDC offers another opportunity for alumni to take on a role by directly supporting at
securing nonprofit status for the Alumni Association was our first priority. Throughout this year, we will work closely with the active chapter to gather the necessary information to regain their nonprofit status. This organizational separation does not affect the relationship between alumni and actives. Supporting the active chapter remains our priority, ensuring they have the resources to succeed, build bonds with fellow brothers, and create lasting memories just as we all once did.
least one active e-board member in the chapter. There are many opportunities to get involved, whether through an elected board position or a committee role, allowing you to make an impact in ways that align with your interests.

Consumers Energy
I joined Triangle for the balance of social, professional, and academic aspects. I also enjoyed being around so many people in the same field as me to navigate the challenges of school together. Currently, I am a project engineer for Consumers Energy on the Transmission Pipeline and Storage Engineering team. Triangle helped me develop leadership and communication skills that I still use today in life I am still involved in Triangle as Chairman of the Membership Development Committee, advising the undergraduate executive board members, Vice President for the Council of Emerging Leaders (CEL), and an advisor to the Grand Valley State University Colony

Computer Science Major Japenese Minor
As a first-generation college student, I found myself worried coming into the school year at a university like Michigan State I was worried I’d have trouble settling in and finding the right people to be around When I rushed Triangle, I found myself in an environment filled with brothers who were willing to look out for me and help me at all times From sinking at the start of the semester to ending with a 3.8 and a spot on the Dean’s List, Triangle has helped me academically, socially, and with the relationships I’ve fostered and continue to foster. This has helped me improve as a brother and as a person

I’m a junior studying mechanical engineering at Michigan State University, getting ready to start my second internship with Marathon Petroleum at their Detroit refinery. Triangle has been more than just a support system it’s given me the confidence to explore career opportunities and the tools to succeed in them. Message From the Alumni President
B y S e a n P o w e r s m s u 1 5
Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard to revive the MSU Alumni Association, facing challenges from supporting the actives during COVID to defining the roles and responsibilities of our board. We’ve come a long way, but there’s still work to be done to ensure the success of both the active chapter and our alumni network for years to come.
Our goal is twofold:
To ensure actives have the support they need to focus on the most important aspects of being a Triangle brother.
To create a strong alumni network where members can stay connected and get involved in ways that match their passions.
One recent update to the chapter house was the reupholstering of the common room furniture, giving it a fresh feel without the need for all-new pieces.
While there have been no major renovations since the 2023 conversion to 16 single rooms, the Alumni Board continues to work with the TBHC on long-term plans for the house. If you’re interested in getting involved with the future strategy of the active house, we’d love to hear from you.
I hope you find value in these updates, and I appreciate your support of our fraternity
