A look at events and activities in Portishead as we approach the period of Remembrance
This year marks the 80th anniversary of momentous battles and turning points of the Second World War
The D-Day landings of 6th June ? the largest seaborne invasion in history ? marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe
The period of Remembrance runs from Thursday 24th October to Monday 11th November, when poppies will be on sale across the UK The red poppy is a sign of both Remembrance (remembering those who lost their lives in conflict) and hope for a peaceful future
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion?s biggest fundraising campaign, held each year during the period of Remembrance Every poppy purchased goes towards making a difference to the lives of the armed forces community Poppy donation points will include Waitrose and Sainsburys supermarkets, Gordano Motorway Services and various Portishead businesses that support the Poppy Appeal
Portishead cadets - Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corp - will also provide donation points along Portishead High Street on three Saturdays 26th October,2nd and 9th November
Organisers of the Portishead Remembrance Parade are hoping the town?s hero,World War II veteran Arthur Oborne, will take part in this year?s parade Arthur, who celebrated his 100th birthday at the beginning of this year,is the last surviving World War II member of the Portishead Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) Arthur was wounded on 9 June 1944,three days after the D-Day landings in Normandy
Berkeley Harris, chairman of Portishead RBL,has asked Arthur to be involved in this year?s parade and the veteran has already agreed to read out the names of those lost lives in World War II
Berkeley said:?We?re really hoping Arthur will be able to get involved in this year?s parade in more ways than one, however this will be dependent on his health at the time and if Queen Camilla doesn? t whisk him off to London to join the Remembrance
events there, which is a realistic possibility Queen Camilla and Arthur became friends after spending time together on a number of occasions during this year?s marking of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day and the Normandy Landings Arthur was one of only three veterans invited to an audience with the King and Queen as the anniversary date approached and this was televised during the commemorations
"Arthur also spent time separately with Queen Camilla in Normandy when we remembered those who gave their lives so we could live ours
?I believe Arthur is requested to make an appearance at the Festival of Remembrance which will be on Saturday 9th November and televised by the BBC,if this is the case we will have to get him back from London on the Saturday evening ready for his involvement in the Portishead Remembrance Parade on Sunday 10th ?
Residents of Portishead lined the streets in January when Arthur, accompanied by his daughter Elizabeth Gibson, walked unaided to a special birthday breakfast organised for him by his friends at the RBL to celebrate his 100th birthday At the time he told them he didn? t see himself as a hero and he had enjoyed his life in the army He also said he thought the secret to his long life was a daily glass of red wine!
On Remembrance Sunday - 10th November ? hundreds of people will join the Portishead Remembrance Parade, with many more lining the parade route
The parade will fall in at 10 30am at the Stoke Road and High Street junction and the Act of Remembrance service will take place at the junction at 10 45am, with audio provided along the High Street A two minute silence will be observed at 11am while parade groups and members of the public remember those who gave their lives The last post will be played by a bugler from Portishead Town Band before the parade sets off at approximately 1105am heading along the High Street The salute this year will be
taken outside Tudor Garage before the parade continues on to Church Road South and into St Peter?s Church for the Remembrance Day service starting at 1130am,to which all are welcome
On Monday 11th November an open service will take place at Waitrose piazza starting at 10 45am during which a two minute silence will be observed ? this is on the 11th day of the 11th month at the top of the 11th hour
Local artist and craftsman John Osborne, who runs Industrial Modern Furniture with his wife Karen, has handcrafted these distinctive decorative steel poppies Ideal for any garden, these poppies are also raising funds to support military families as 10%of all sales will be donated to the Royal British Legion
To see these poppies up close,Reeds Rains estate agent, which has an office at the juction of Stoke Road and the High Street where the parade will fall in on the 10th,is currently hosting a display of them as part of its Remembrance Day window display
The poppies, which can also be bought from Etsy or collected direct from Modern Industrial Furniture in Portishead, make ideal gifts and cost just £15 each

nce again this year I have the absolute honour of hosting the Portishead Christmas Lights switch on It?s an amazing feeling to be part of something the whole town seems to love and support so much and seeing everyone?s happy smiley faces staring back at me on that November evening is totally worth being freezing cold for!
This year is a really special one too as we celebrate 50 years of Portishead Christmas Light switch ons and we have a very special guest switching them on to celebrate
The history of Christmas lights in the UKdates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when candlelit trees were introduced into homes With the invention of electric Christmas lights in the 1880s by Edward H Johnson,a friend of Thomas Edison, the practice of decorating trees with lights became safer and more widespread In Britain, electric Christmas lights became more common in the 1920s,but it wasn? t until after World War II that they gained widespread popularity due to advancements in technology and the increasing availability of electricity
By the mid-20th century, the tradition of illuminating high streets and public spaces with festive lights began to take hold This started with simple decorations and small strings of lights in cities like London, which in 1954 saw the first major outdoor Christmas light display along Regent Street Over the following decades, other towns and cities embraced this trend and lighting ceremonies became a popular way to mark the start of the festive season
In recent years, lighting up high streets has become a beloved tradition across the UK,often coinciding
with community events and drawing large crowds
The displays have grown more extravagant, incorporating thousands of lights, intricate designs and themed decorations
High street Christmas lights not only create a festive atmosphere but also help boost local economies by encouraging shoppers and visitors to stay longer in town centres
Here in Portishead we have become especially famous for our Christmas lights display ? ?The Best In The South West?! What began as a local effort by the community has become one of the most spectacular light shows in the region Our switch on attracts visitors from across Somerset and beyond!
The lights are now a major feature of the town?s festive calendar, with the high street transformed into a twinkling wonderland This year?s switch-on event on Monday 25th of this month will feature live music, special guests and of course,a visit from Santa!
See you there!
Our lights really do create a strong sense of community and celebration, bringing people together, spreading joy and boosting the local economy I really am very proud to play my small part in kicking off Christmas I?ll see you there from 5:30pm!
50 years on and still they?re still improving year on year!
After a year of checking stock, ordering new items, carrying out repairs, fundraising and extensive planning, this month volunteers in high visibility jackets will be climbing their ladders and scaffolding towers to ensure that Portishead once again has one of the best Christmas Lights displays in the South West
The Portishead Christmas Lights are organised by a group of volunteers and cost more than £25,000 each year to operate They are paid for by a vital grant from the town council, donations, sponsorship and fundraising activities
You?re likely to start seeing volunteers on their ladders in the High Street over the weekend of 16th17th November when they will be erecting Christmas trees above the shops These are sponsored by individuals, groups and businesses, the funds from which all help keep our lights shining The lights themselves will go up on Sunday 24th,when the High Street will be full of volunteers helping to get the
lights in place, test them and ensure all are in working order ahead of the big switch on the following day Please,if you?re in the High Street that day,pop your loose change in to the collection buckets to support our illuminations The delightful Posset Singers will be singing live in the High Street during the day to help keep spirits high and encourage donations from passers-by
One of the big fundraisers for the lights is the annual Posset Christmas Market, formerly known as the Victorian Evening On Sunday 8th December Portishead High Street will be closed to vehicles between 2-6pm to allow for the street to be lined with a variety of stalls showcasing everything from handmade crafts and art,to toys and gifts There will be an array of food and drink available; charity stalls will offer fun, games and tombolas, plus you will find street entertainment and fairground rides This event is ideal for all the family
Each year the Portishead Christmas lights committee runs the Tree of Light Campaign Lights on the festive tree above Iceland,in The Precinct, will sparkle in memory of loved ones throughout December and in to the New Year To take part all you need to do is complete the form on the facing page and return it with a minimum donation of £5.Every single penny donated will go towards the lights and the names of all those remembered will be published in the North Somerset Times just before Christmas In addition, details of those remembered will be displayed on a screen in the window of Oceans estate agent in the High Street Photographs can be included and should be emailed to lorraineschneider23@gmail.com, provided on a USBor as hard copy attached to the form, which you will find on page 7 The forms should be sent to Tree of Light c/o 23 Heron Gardens, Portishead BS20 7DH

This year?s switch on event will take place from 5 45pm on Monday 25th November outside Masterkey in the Precinct on our High Street
TV and radio presenter,Ian Downsy Downs, will entertain with music and banter before leading the countdown to the switch on,alongside Santa and other guests. This will be followed by a firework finale.
Santa, who will be escorted through the High Street from Clarence House by our local fire fighters, police and coastguards,is expected to arrive at The Precinct, accompanied by his trusted helpers,at around 6 15pm They will be happy to take letters for
Santa from children before and after the switch on and there will also be a Santa post box in Goodman and Lilley estate agents opposite the stage
Parents and carers please note ? children should include their name and address on any letters they have for Santa if they would like a reply,he and his elves like to reply to every single one.
It?s worth noting the High Street from the Wyndham Way to Stoke Road, will be closed during this event
For those new to the event the crowds are huge so if you want to get up close you?ll need to arrive early

My dog Bruce, who is six,and I like to take a long walk most afternoons This is one of my favourites and it usually takes us around two hours, but it really depends on how often we stop off for refreshment!
We begin on Nore Road which is near to where we live and head towards the water, via the green open space that used to be a small golf course,so that we can join the coastal path We walk along the coastal path towards the Lake Grounds and then along the Esplanade and up on to Battery Point, where Bruce has a good run around on a long lead before heading in to the woodland you can see clearly as you stand on Battery Point with the Bristol Channel behind you
right and walk along Old Mill Road which leads us to the High Street, which has plenty of dog friendly shops, bars and cafes
Places like CoffiLab even have a dog menu in addition to one for humans!
We begin our return after a few treats and head back to the marina, but this time we walk on the opposite side of the water, past the leisure centre where there are a couple of grass areas before we hit the paths that run alongside the water
We walk through a little of the woodland to let Bruce have a good sniff around and then down on to Woodlands Road, surrounded by trees which provides Bruce with more areas to explore along the roadside We head towards the Royal Inn and the town?s marina, walking carefully down the steps that lead to the lifeboat station From here we stroll towards the marina, crossing the bridge at the lock gates, walking towards the town centre There are plenty of dog walkers en route, many of which we exchange pleasantries with We cut through the Home Bargains car park and take the path which goes to Sainsburys At the end of the path we turn
When we get to the Royal Inn we take a path down on to the beach so that Bruce can explore again Back on Woodlands Road now,we head in to the woodland for a little bit of an adventure before we make our way back towards the Lake Grounds If the Lido Café is open,we might stop off for more refreshment as this is also a dog friendly cafe, however if we are approaching early evening at the end of the Esplanade we head in to Kilkenny Fields, where the Windmill Inn is beckoning in the distance You will always find a fresh bowl of water here and plenty of outside seating, dogs are also welcome in the first part of the bar From The Windmill we head back up on to Nore Road and home
Notes:Make sure you take water for you and your dog, along with poo bags to clean up after them
If your dog is social, the Lake Grounds and marina are great places to meet other dogs and people

Jess Herbert grew up very much in the heart of a Portishead community spirited home As part of the Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club, her grandfather Ray Herbert helped organise a rescue service which became the Portishead Lifeboat and he was then a trustee when the Portishead Lifeboat Trust was formed Her father was also part of the lifeboat crew
Both the lifeboat and the sailing club were among many local organisations Jess and her family were involved in
Obsessed with dolphin as a youngster,Jess was sure her career would involve marine life, however, now looking back she realises engineering was in her
Fascinated by dolphins Jess Herbert always wanted to be a m arine biologist, until she discovered engineering!
blood She said:?I think I annoyed my parents by always asking ?why?and I distinctly remember having a knack for taking things apart but never quite managing to get them back together in the right way I was also always enthusiastic to help my dad out when he was working on DIYprojects,so when I became interested in electronics at school I think things started to fall in to place and the poor dolphins were quickly abandoned!?
Today Jess travels the world as an Experimental Vibration Engineer and is about to embark on a sponsored PhD at Imperial College London
Jess Herbert talks about her engineering career with a multinational aerospace and defence organisation
At the age of 27 Jess Herbert?s engineering career has already taken her on global travels.
As she prepares to embark on a sponsored PhD in Motion Amplification (a technique that uses high speed cameras to visualise vibrations normally invisible to the humans eye),she talked to Enjoy editor Tracey Fowler about her journey
I left school right after completing my GCSEs when I was 16 to start an apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce This was a three year course where I spent time at college learning to mill, turn and weld as well as spending time on site completing placements across the company I spent time in the manufacturing areas, assembly, test and some of the support roles including quality and logistics
DID YOU STAYWITH ROLLS- ROYCEAFTERYOUR APPRENTICESHIP
Yes,when I finished my apprenticeship I got my first full-time role working for an area of the company that was developing composite fan blades and casings I was responsible for the quality of the external supply chain and spent a lot of time working across a wide range of suppliers around the world
During this time I was fortunate to receive sponsorship to begin a part-time Masters degree in mechanical engineering Over six years I worked one day a week on my studies and the remaining four in the office One of the modules I studied covered dynamics, something that really captured my attention and I found a huge interest in At that time a job role on the vibration engineering team was advertised I applied and got the job
Vibration engineering is a specialist area that looks at understanding the dynamic behaviour of components and structures We want to know how things vibrate and whether it lines up with our computer programme predictions. When things vibrate they have frequencies where they resonate,
if we shake something for long enough and hard enough at these frequencies it will eventually break This is what happens when someone sings at a wine glass and it shatters - they are simply singing at the right frequency of the resonance! So I work to understand the resonances of components, make sure they are behaving as expected and make sure we never encounter a situation where we will excite them long or hard enough to cause any damage!
This is still my current job role and through the past five years here I have completed my MEng and have somewhat developed into a company expert in some of our measurement techniques I?ve had some fantastic opportunities including spending a summer camp working on key research alongside top global universities and more recently being given funding to embark on the PhD at Imperial College London I love my job and feel very lucky to have had the career journey I?ve had so far
Having been introduced to The Nursery in Portishead by her sister Sarah, who worked there,Katie was delighted to be given ?bank?work at the early years childcare setting during college holidays She was used to being with young children as there were plenty of babies and toddlers in her extended family and playing with the children came naturally
?Of course there was much more than playing involved?said Katie,?but I was lucky enough to have qualified members of staff to guide me every step of the way in my work I know it was only a holiday job but I really enjoyed it It felt so rewarding; it felt like I was making a difference to the lives of these children who seemed to find so much wonder in many of the activities we did
Soon enough though, the holidays would come to an end and I would go back to college.
When my course came to an end I was ready for a bit of an adventure and Jackie who owns The Nursery told me about a childcare facility at a ski resort in the French Alps that she had worked with I applied to work for the company and got the job, spending six months in the ski resort caring for young children and helping them learn snow sports!
When I returned to the UKsix months later Covid hit and everything seemed to come to a standstill, especially in the travel and tourism world This made me think very hard about what career I wanted I had loved working at the Nursery and I had loved working with young children and so I asked if The Nursery would consider employing me.
In the summer of 2020 I was employed full-time by The Nursery and worked in the toddler room It was
really hard work but the children were wonderful, the staff were amazing and I quite liked working three and a half long days and then getting the rest of the week off It gave me a really good work/life balance
In 2021I was promoted to lead practitioner on the condition I studied early years childcare to get my qualifications. The Nursery is really hot on professional development so I also did courses in paediatric first aid and learned a lot about being responsible for a team I passed my exams and am now level 3 qualified which has allowed me to continue my career progression I?ve worked with the toddlers and babies and I love every minute
Despite loving my job I still have a bit of the travel bug in me and wanted to travel to Australia Luckily for me The Nursery supports a good work/life balance for all its staff and so I have been given two months off to travel with my job waiting for me when I return in the New Year.
I love working in early years childcare and I love working at the Nursery,so I?ll be back soon!
Before I go on to the exciting things that are happening in Portishead High Street it is with great sadness that we see Freemans, which has traded in Portishead since 1967, is closing its High Street shop In the December issue of Enjoy we will take a look at Freemans over the years and talk to the team behind the business
Also on the downside, we are devastated that North Somerset Council is still pursuing its quest to introduce parking charges in Portishead, despite the public and our traders making it very clear they are very much against the idea We hope all those opposing the scheme, like us, will to continue to fight against it
Now on to more positive news? with many High
The Big Kitchen at 100 High Street is a bake-ware and kitchen-craft shop,it was also the first to introduce bubble tea to the town, but the changes recently made have taken this local venue to new heights
Streets in decline across the country, we are lucky that many businesses in Portishead?s High Street continue to thrive Local independent business owners are thinking outside the box to help keep Portishead High Street a destination of choice
Alongside our coffee shops, bars and restaurants our traders continue to make exciting changes to keep our town centre interesting and subsequently busy.
It?s good to see Raine and Mae moving from their first floor premises above Robert John Barbers in to the former Bootwater Bathrooms unit in Stoke Road, just off the High Street, next to Impero Lounge
Here are a few more things we?ve discovered this month:
In addition to outdoor tables and chairs the inside has been transformed in to a small, bright and airy café so that you can sit down and relax, chat with friends while enjoying the best hot chocolate for miles around! Homemade cakes and a range of teas and coffees are just the tip of the menu on which you will also find gluten free and dairy free items The homemade ice cream is to die for and that too comes in a dairy-free variety In addition, topical and seasonal themed food and drink are a speciality not to be missed along with special occasion cakes made to order Of course, while you?re sitting enjoying your tea and cake, you can view the vast array of bake ware and gifts available in this shop packed with surprises and quality goods from Cornishware to Emma Bridgwater collectables and from cupcake making kits to cake stands, there?s far too much to list The Big Kitchen is well worth a visit!
We are delighted to see that a bookshop remains in the heart of Portishead High Street Following the closure of Max Minerva?s earlier this summer, the shop reopened as Hartmanns Books in August, owned by Hayley Mildren Welcome to Portishead Hayley! Hayley?s route here is somewhat unorthodox - she was a police officer for 12 years, then completed a law degree and entered the legal sector, however owning a bookshop had always been Hayley?s dream,to be surrounded by beautiful books and talking about books - making connections through stories So,when Hayley was made aware that the Portishead branch of Max Minerva?s was for sale, she says she just had to take a look Hayley is from Bristol, but, like many, fell in love with Portishead Her offer for the shop was accepted and the rest,as they say,is history Please do pop in to say hello to Hayley and the rest of the team,to talk all things books ? they look forward to seeing you
Since Tom took over at Careys this summer there have been many positive changes Carey?s continues to stock household items, wool, cottons and all those haberdashery items we love Careys for; the picture framing department remains in full swing, the art department has restocked and the ?back shop?also remains open So what?s new?

Agata Pyzik moved to Portishead earlier this year, she is the Polish partner of Tom who now runs Careys in our High Street Agata brought with her to our town ? her vintage fashion boutique, which you will find on the first floor at Careys, alongside the art department and picture framing
Agata talks about her shop with pride She told Enjoy: ?My shop is about falling in love with clothes really; it's about beauty in your everyday life Life's too short to wear glum, grey stuff, which doesn't make you happy My shop is also about accessibility and sustainability - I prefer things that have already been in use and are made of natural fabrics that can breathe I'm always looking for big sizes too,so that everyone can enjoy vintage and I price everything cheaper than what I see online
I think, especially after Covid,we need to experience good things in our lives Self care has become more important because we've all experienced how fragile our lives might be and how life is about the here and now One might say that it's just clothes, but we spend most of our life in clothes,so why not make them something special? I put real love in to how I
choose my items which you can check daily @careysvintageportishead on Instagram
I invite you to come and pay us visit! I specialise in ladies wear at present, but I?m hoping this will change and we?ll soon have vintage home ware and crockery too Please come and say hello I will be very pleased to meet you as I get to know more about the Portishead community ?

Cognitive hypnotherapist and counsellor,Trina Gazzard, looks at the conditions and issues she has successfully helped clients with over the years
Hypnotherapy is a changed state of awareness and increased relaxation that allows us to improve focus and concentration It typically makes us more open to suggestions and helps us gain control over our behaviour,it can also help us to cope better with anxiety or pain.
Many people turn to hypnotherapy for help with mental health issues such as stress and anxiety, panic attacks and post-traumatic stress syndrome; also to help overcome phobias and for habit changing like giving up smoking or losing weight Did you know, however, there are so many other things hypnotherapy can help with?
I have been helping clients improve their lives for many years and here are some of the issues they have successfully overcome as a result:improving sports performance, grinding their teeth, coping with
grief, intimate issues affecting performance in the bedroom, needing to urinate too frequently (including bed wetting and not leaving the house due to the worry of needing the toilet),problems sleeping, gaining confidence to help in areas including job interviews and passing exams, alcohol and drug abuse, lowering stress levels to aid fertility, fussy eating and saying no!

Helping you improve your balance, posture, strength and flexibility
Hi,I'm Gemma and I?ve been teaching Pilates for more than 12 years I started my journey as a personal trainer, but when I discovered Pilates I knew I wanted to specialise in it
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that focuses on strengthening muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, this method emphasises core strength, stability and controlled movements It has gained immense popularity over the years, not just because of its numerous benefits but also because of its versatility - it can be adapted to suit all from complete beginners to advanced and can suit your health goals, regardless of age, health status and fitness level
Pilates is a holistic exercise - some of the principles that guide it include concentration on each movement, use of the abdomen and lower back muscles, flowing, precise movement patterns and controlled breathing Whether you are seeking rehabilitation, injury prevention,or simply a new way to stay active,Pilates is a fantastic option that can lead to lasting improvements in your overall health and quality of life It certainly helped alleviate my back pain which developed following years of working in an office and a hobby that involved weight lifting!
I absolutely love teaching and doing Pilates myself,it
is a real passion I teach mat work Pilates at Walnut Grove and love to add small equipment to my classes to keep them fun and challenging
People often avoid Pilates because they don? t know what to expect Let me show you a couple of exercises, they really are suitable for all fitness levels
This is a good exercise to stretch your back and help reduce back pain.
Begin in a neutral position on your hands and knees like a cat or cow ?as the name suggests From your bottom/lower back start to articulate the spine into an arch, imagining you are an angry cat when they flex their back, pull in your abdominal muscles then fold the head down to look at your knees It should feel like a gentle stretch to your lower back.Don't over-arch your back; keep it comfortable, unless your therapist guides you otherwise Then gradually release back from the tail bone to the head moving in the opposite direction, like a happy cat stretching out I love this as it really mobilises the spine
This is a great exercise for strengthening the back muscles, glutes and shoulders, all while using the core to stabilise the spine
On your hands and knees again with tummy muscles (core) engaged, shoulders strong and stable, stretch the opposite arm and leg out, making sure you don? t collapse to one side or dip the back in the middle Hold and keeping as steady as you can then gradually return that arm and leg to the starting position and repeat using the other arm and leg All the while keep your trunk as still as possible
Take your time when doing this and before lifting the leg, squeeze the opposite glute to help keep your pelvis stable
These are just examples of some of my ?go to? exercises, but obviously there are many more great strengthening and mobilising exercises I teach in Pilates classes
I like to encourage freedom of movement and unpredictable and spontaneous movements which are not always controlled I also love using small
equipment like tennis balls and foam rollers for massage
If you would like to know more about Pilates and how it can help you, please come and try one of my classes and find out for yourself how the benefit of movement and Pilates can help alleviate aches and pains, improve your balance, posture, strength and flexibility that in turn will assist you in everyday life

IEnjoy?s Tracie Fry reports on her visit to the launch of an exciting new aesthetic laser clinic
was delighted to receive an invitation to the launch of The Clinic Rooms in Clevedon, run by Portishead mum Naomi Saunders Until fairly recently Naomi ran beauty rooms at Sheepway but has since moved her business to nearby Clevedon where she runs Envy Hair and Beauty on one side of the road and The Clinic Rooms directly opposite on the other
You can tell on meeting Naomi that her business is born from a deep passion for the skin and aesthetics industry Her vision for The Clinic Rooms was to bring in-depth knowledge and the most advanced beauty equipment and technology to the local area and this is exactly what she is now doing,in a space that is safe, clean, inclusive and beautiful
and they are seeing fantastic results after just one treatment ?
The Clinic Rooms?piste de résistance is the recent introduction of the Motus AYLaser, the world?s most advanced laser treatment for hair removal and skin rejuvenation
Naomi explained to me how she had carried out extensive research on the types of laser, searching for what could best deliver the results she was looking for When she learned about the amazing results the Motus AYLaser was producing for health services and clinics around the world, she was happy to invest in it and she hasn? t looked back She said: ?We chose to partner with Lynton Lasers, distributors of the Motus AYLaser, because not only are they top of their game when it comes to awards for training and technology but their machines are safe and effective and are used within the NHS Another big plus for me is that this particular laser is suitable for all skin colours, whereas not all laser treatments are I will only ever choose the best for my brand! The results are already speaking for themselves Clients are reporting the treatments are virtually pain free
As Naomi introduced the laser machine to the guests attending her launch we heard more about the technology and were shown some of the remarkable results Not only does this machine offer permanent hair removal and treat leg and facial veins it also addresses skin pigmentation We were all particularly moved by the image of a child's facial birthmark which had been removed by the NHSusing this equipment A demonstration in the treatment room followed, whereby a volunteer from the group was offered skin pigmentation treatment, for damage possibly caused by the sun A small patch on her face was treated, which took less than a minute The volunteer reported the experience had been pain-free and her big smile and thumbs up suggested she was delighted with the result
I decided to ask more about pigmentation concerns and this is what Naomi had to say:?Pigmentation concerns, such as dark spots and sun damage, can deeply affect how we feel about our skin These patches of discoloured skin can make you feel self-conscious or frustrated when makeup just doesn? t seem enough to cover them, whereas laser pigmentation removal helps you regain clear, even-toned skin The laser treatment targets and breaks down excess melanin in the skin, allowing your body to naturally clear away the pigment This technology not only helps reduce the appearance of dark spots but can restore your confidence and bring back a youthful glow to your complexion Each session works to lighten the pigmentation, often with minimal downtime, giving you the freedom to step out feeling radiant and revitalised For many,it?s more than just a cosmetic fix? it?s about reclaiming control over how you feel in your skin
Whether laser treatment is right for you or not may depend on your skin type and the severity of your pigmentation, but for countless people it?s been life-changing We offer free consultations to discuss whether or not the treatment is right for you ?
I then asked Naomi about the other main treatment delivered by the Motus AYLaser - permanent hair removal She said:?Laser hair removal is one of the most common cosmetic laser procedures but the Motus AYsets itself apart pretty significantly from other laser hair removal treatments It is the world?s first and only laser hair removal technology to deliver two gold standard lasers ? Alexandrite and Nd:YAG
By using pulses of laser light it damages the hair follicle for permanent hair reduction providing a pain-free solution with long-lasting results in a way that can be safe for all skin types?
Naomi says she searched high and low to find the right practitioners to work with at The Clinic Rooms and has developed four luxury treatment rooms to allow the clinic,in addition to the laser treatments,to offer aesthetics including dermal filler and wrinkle relaxation; body sculpting; facial rejuvenation, skin boosting,semi-permanent make up and a number of other wellbeing treatments
Consultations and patch tests at The Clinic Rooms
are free, they are a great way to discuss your needs, find out more about the different treatments available and get to know the person who will be delivering your selected treatment
Candy Minshall from Walnut Grove CIC looks at how the community interest company, dedicated to providing wellness facilities for all in the Portishead community,is growing

After several meetings Walnut Grove CIC was born with our first major funding coming from Portishead Town Council We launched a ?Senior Strong?class and it was full within a few hours We launched another and we now have three Senior Strong classes running with plans to start a fourth in the coming months

It's official the clocks have turned back,it's getting darker earlier and the temperature has dropped Once the family are all safely home it's a race to grab the best seat in the house - to the log burner! That warm glow is so inviting, the flickering flames relaxing and listening to the gentle crackle is enough to lower anyone's stress level, that is until the wood runs out and someone has to venture outside This winter I decided to create an indoor wood store that would not only hold enough wood for an entire weekend, but also fit in with the decor and look clean and stylish My search revealed some interesting and unusual solutions, here are just a few
This genius log store is on casters so you can wheel it nearer to the door to refill! Made from plumbing pipes with a solid wood base to hold the weight, this industrial design would look fantastic in a rustic setting I have seen very similar designs to purchase on popular websites but if you fancy yourself as a bit of a DIYer check out thecavenderdiary com where I found simple instruction on how to build one of these beauties to a size that suits your home - this one's big enough to save you a few cold trips to the wood pile!
I also loved this gorgeous natural willow wicker basket from Dibor com which comes with a durable hessian lining, and heavy duty carrying handles This timeless style makes it the perfect companion for a wide array of firesides, whatever your interior design tastes from classic and rustic to modern and contemporary Again this one has castors making it 'wheely easy' to move to and from the fireplace, but at 72cm wide and 52cm tall you will need some space to accommodate this one! I considered buying a large basket second hand and adding the casters, but my research took me down another rabbit hole
3. Tx
As I searched market place for large baskets I came across an old oak cupboard for sale locally We had room for the length of a large basket but not the depth and this cupboard was coming in at only 40 cm deep bingo! Once home I removed the doors, shelves and feet gave it a light sanding and then a couple of coats of eggshell paint, leaving the top natural and waxed I was really pleased with the end result and to be honest it could probably hold enough wood for a week! So, sometimes it pays to think outside the proverbial box, this lovely and very useful piece of furniture came in at a fraction of the price of any of the above; it?s also handy for a side lamp,a plant and a place to rest my glass of wine Cheers!

Portishead funeral directors make generous donation to the town?s Christmas lights
Portishead Christmas Lights have received a terrific boost thanks to FH Halliday & Son,the family-run funeral directors that has been serving Portishead for more than 140 years The company, based in Portishead High Street, has donated £1,000 once again this year to support the festive illuminations
Glyn and Helen Lawrence, who are part of the Halliday family that started the business in the 1880s, are avid supporters of the annual lights display and the business has been donating to the lights for many years
Glyn said:?I can remember my father Edward Lawrence actively helping to put the lights up each year
"In the 1960s we used to allow the electricity board to park in our yard when they erected the lights and we are very pleased to still be supporting the fantastic display today "
As Helen and son Harvey, who also works for the firm,
handed lights treasurer Bryan Pycroft a cheque for £1,000,he said:?At FH Halliday we feel it?s important to give back to the community we serve and donating to the lights is one of many ways we do this,I?ve even volunteered to help put the lights up if they need any more volunteers
"We are very grateful to all the members of the lights teams who ensure we have a mile or more of coloured bulbs shining throughout December each year - they are a credit to all involved ?
Bryan thanked Helen,Harvey and the FH Halliday team for the generous donation He said:?It costs more and more each year to keep the Portishead Christmas lights shining and we are only able to do this thanks to donations like this,a vital town council grant and our fundraising activities A big thank you Hallidays and to everyone who contributes in any way "
