lika Sherawat

literally exploded on the Indian screen in 2003 in the groundbreaking film Khwahish and created history by opening the doors to kissing in the Indian cinema and has gone on to become the original Bollywood Bombshell. She went on to star in “Murder”, the biggest box office success of 2004, which again broke new ground in the depiction of extra-marital affairs. After having graced every cover from Cosmopolitan, Filmfare, Femina, Man’s World and the London based Snoop magazine, she’s gone on to experiment with a variety of roles in Kis Kis Ki Kismat, Bachke Rehna Rebaba, Shaadi Se Pehle and Darna Zaroori Hai. In between she became the first Indian actress to star in a Jackie Chan movie (The Myth), which took her to Cannes and Toronto and her pictures were splashed across magazines and newspapers all across the world including Time magazine. With her 7Up commercials on air, a great line up of films and a variety of roles with new and established directors; Mallika Sherawat is poised to rock the world.

awat Recently she was hanging out with rock stars at the famed Sunset Strip music venue The House of Blues. As a special guest of Donovan Leitch (son of legendary musician Donovan) at his Camp Freddy gig, Mallika met and hobnobbed with Ace Frehely of the band KISS, Duff McKagan of GUNS n ROSES, Dave Navarro of JANES ADDICTION, Billy Duffy of THE CULT and Ozzy Ozbourne. Accompanied by her Los Angeles entourage, Mallika hung out backstage before the show, and then enjoyed her very first rock concert down front of the stage for the full experience. She “tweeted” throughout the night on her Twitter social networking account, saying to her followers “OMG! Ozzy’s on right now! I have no eardrums left!” and that notorious rake of rock Dave Navarro was “very charming and a perfect gentlemen.” When asked what she thought of the concert, she replied “She had great fun. Donovan was the perfect host. For my first rock concert, it couldn’t have been better!”

While having dinner at the famed LA eatery the Ivy with producers of her first American-Indo film HISSS, Mallika met Ric Wake, record producer of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Diana Ross, and Yanni, who talked about working together on various projects with the dynamic duo who are currently on a world tour and are slated to perform at LA’s Nokia Theatre on June 23rd with their current musical tour de force, “Yanni’s Voices.” Hollywood TV reports that Mallika may be attending Yanni’s concert in LA and is in talks with Ric Wake and Yanni for their up and coming trip to India. According to close sources Mallika might be doing a snake goddess dance from HISSS. Hollywood TV spies say that Yanni invited Mallika to his concert Tuesday in LA, to which she replied “Only if you dedicate a song to me.” Yanni has never dedicated a song on stage to anyone before. Will he? Will she be there to hear it?

British born Annaliese Dayes is an International Model and presenter. Her career has spanned from modelling Nike, Adidas, Runway and Britain’s Next Top Model to America’s Next Top Model British Invasion, as well as various presenting and hosting on shows on stage, TV and radio.

y Business e s Woman to

Interview conducted and copy written by Lady K

Annaliese began her modeling career at the young age of 13 with full support from her father. She appeared on many British Day Time shows and Teen magazines modeling. From this her career spiraled. Her extensive experience includes work with beauty and fashion brands, large sports companies as well as other established brands. These include Ponds Skincare, Jemma Kidd, Nichole De Carle, Louis Mariette, Nike, Adidas and Puma. As well as magnificent beauty, there is an intelligent brain; she graduated from University in Media studies specializing in TV broadcasting.

AnnalieseDayes

Putting her academic skills into practice, Annaliese’s passion and drive in hosting and presenting has gained invaluable experience interviewing the likes of Janet and Jermaine Jackson, Kelly Rowland, Kimberly Wyatt, Peter Andre, N Dubz, JLS and Arlene Philips along with others. Annaliese’s introduction to radio began with making it to the final 5 of the Kiss Radio (UK) presenter search in 2011. This was closely followed by her current engagement that is presenting the breakfast show on Bang Radio (UK).

But what gave Annalise’s British National exposure was in 2009 Season 5, as she competed against 13 contestants on Britain’s Next Top Model and was down to the 7th contestant. But this just acted as a springboard to the other side of the Atlantic. Tyra Bank’s team were interested in this beautiful British Model and was asked to compete in America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion (ANTMBI) at the end of 2011. The series was aired in Feb 2012 in the USA and then Sept 2012 in UK followed by 88 countries around the world throughout the coming year. When asked what it was like to live in the house in America’s Next Top Model; British Invasion Annaliese stated, “We had cameras in our face all the time. It took a few days to get used too. But as I had similar experience to this with Britain’s Next Top Model, I felt at ease quicker than the other girls who may have been through this for the first time.” On-screen drama was highlighted throughout the season of ANTMBI, but Annaliese stated, “Yes we did have a few disagreements, but when you are living with a group of strangers there are a few ups and downs, but generally we got on really well. There always needed to be a bit of a push to clean up but I was good; I always cleaned up after myself. The video diary was edited in such a way that we may have appeared to have strong opinions of each other. But that is downside to editing. Overall I had fun in the house.”

‘She is beautiful and inspirational. We met a few times in a group. My only regret is that I would have loved to have spent more time with her and sit with her to have a one-on-one chat and get her advice on things.’Annaliese on Tyra Banks

AnnalieseDayes

“I knew it was my time to go at that point. Some models who left before me were really upset. But when I was eliminated, I was pleased that I had made it that far and what a great opportunity it was for me.”

Annaliese did the UK proud being one of the final three. She was graceful and poised when she left the show and is looking forward to new exciting challenges in the future. Annaliese loves to model but has great skills at presenting and hosting shows. Hosting a TV show on National TV is one of her ambitions. But this International Model has already started a fashion business venture: Frills by AD.

One would think dresses or maybe lingerie…but its neither...its frilly socks!! Annaliese was questioned, ‘Why socks?’ She simply responded, “I love socks! I got with a seamstress and then I experienced a light bulb moment and FS by AD was born!”

Annaliese is a successful supermodel, host, presenter and now businesswoman, but the most enduring quality about her is her passion and drive to succeed and the humbleness about her. annaliesedayes.com frillsbyad.bigcartel.com ladykmedia.com

e’ve all seen Charlie’s Angels. They’re that gorgeous, crime-fighting, cinematic Super Trio of the 20th century that you used to see on TV all the time. But here and now, fresh into the year 2013, Steven Paul and his team of beauty experts puts a new spin on that concept... Introducing the masterminds behind Steven Paul’s “Angels” beauty shoot: First up, hair stylists Darren & Sasha Bay, who were mentioned in last issue’s “Poison Ivy” article. Sasha and Darren, twins from New York City, are happy to be back working on another project with Steven. The feeling is mutual: “Sasha and Darren are in high demand. They are extremely creative, incredibly talented, and they bring our projects to a new level,” says Steven of the duo. “And the girls are drawn to them, so relaxed when they’re around them. They all want a Sasha/Darren image of their own.” New to the team is Makeup Artist Kirsten Sylvester, also from NYC. “Kirsten is a very accomplished artist. She does fabulous work, is frequently published in the industry, and she’s a great addition to the team.”

he session begins with a communal meeting; one in which smiles break the ice as jokes are spilled and everyone gets to know each other. Next, the topic of conversation shifts to goals: What’s the story? Who’s the hero of the story? How will she be portrayed through face, hair, mood, and gesture? What is the appeal and what are we trying to accomplish? As ideas dance around, these questions become the foreplay to the main event.

& Beauty Oh the release of endorphins and the feeling of being on cloud nine. The late night phone calls, ‘I miss you’ and I can’t wait to see you all felt so great. It was everything Sheila imagined love would feel like. She felt as though things could not be better between her and Greg. Six months down the road, the phone calls stopped and ‘I miss you’ was no longer a common phrase. Endorphins were no longer being released and what was once cloud nine seemed to become a gloomy place. She thought as BB King would say, “The Thrill is Gone”. Sheila decided one morning to express to Greg how she felt. She said to him, “I just don’t feel like we have anything between us anymore. I don’t feel the sparks that we once had”. Greg couldn’t believe his ears. He thought everything in the relationship was fine. “What do you mean?” he exclaimed. “I don’t see our relationship going anywhere. I think we should see other people”, she replied. Greg was shocked and saddened by her decision, but decided he had no choice but to respect it. And thus, Sheila’s search for love

what

love really is

by Cupid

continued. “Will I ever find true love?” she thought. Sheila went to visit her longtime mentor over the weekend. When she arrived, her mentor Sarah could tell that something was different. “What’s wrong?” Sarah asked. Shelia began to tell her what had happened between her and Greg. She said, “I miss him so much, but there just wasn’t a spark between us anymore.” Sarah didn’t chime in immediately, but only listened. When Shelia was done expressing her feelings, Sarah asked her the big question, “Are you looking for love, good companionship or for a feeling?” Sheila replied, “I’m looking for love.” “If you are looking for love, it is important to distinguish it from feelings, which are often described as infatuation. Love is eternal, but feelings can change with the wind.” Sarah said. Seeing that Shelia was eager to hear more, Sarah continued to elaborate. “Love is difficult to describe. In fact, if someone can tell you why they love you, that’s not love. What’s being expressed is the reward or feelings they receive

and are you in it?

If someone can tell you why they love you, that’s not love. What’s being expressed is a reward or feeling they receive from being with you.

from being with you. This is merely a chemical reaction to outside stimuli. Rather than looking for love or temporary feelings, I would suggest looking for good companionship.” Sheila seemed puzzled so Sarah started in again, “A person can love their brother, sister, mother, daughter or even a pet. Love is a Universal force we often mistake for mere feelings. While love should exist in any relationship, what you really want to focus on is good companionship. Good companionship can be more easily defined. Does this person bring joy into your life? Do you bring joy to theirs? Does having that person around make your life better and vice versa? Will they be there for you through thick and thin and do you offer the same. It’s really that simple.”

Sheila left that weekend with a newfound perspective. She had a different outlook on love, feelings and good companionship. For the rest of her life she vowed to base her relationship on the quality of companionship rather than changeable feelings. She knew it wouldn’t mean that she would live happily ever after, but this enlightenment helped her to find the right person and that is made her happy.

Travis Lee Ferguson

Growing up with dreams of becoming an elite athlete,

he began to live a life revolving around fitness and health at a very young age. Travis also developed a passion and dream of becoming an actor, but due to a lack of opportunities in Iowa, he focused on athletics. Excelling in football, basketball, and track, Travis has essentially spent his whole life turning his body into a machine. This hard work paid off after his sophomore year of high school when receiving a full ride scholarship from Iowa State University to play football. While there, as a student athlete, he managed to get his degree in sociology, graduating in 2009. While still in college, Travis was blessed with an opportunity to follow his dreams of becoming a model/actor, when approached by a local modeling agency. Travis began building his portfolio by booking photo shoots with local photographers and learning to perfect his craft as a new model. Still focusing on school and football at the time, his availability was very limited. Immediately after his graduation from Iowa State, he was able to kick his career into full throttle, by booking shoots throughout the entire country, working with over 100 photographers, designers, and producers. Travis has also had the opportunity to begin growing his acting career by taking acting classes, and being casted in numerous commercials, including a lead role in an advertisement for Veridian Credit Union in 2012. While print and runway modeling consume the majority of his experience, Travis is slowly breaking ground into the acting industry, and steadily looking for other opportunities. Travis’ experience has caught the attention of a very loyal fan base that has supported and followed his career extremely closely. Travis says that his fans are the reason that he does what he does, and loves to get to know and interact with the people that have gotten him so far in this business. Travis is constantly finding new ways to show his appreciation to his supporters through social media, appearances, and other events. Travis’ physique has graced the cover of Sensual Horizon, a romance novel by well known author Langston John Blaze. He has also been featured in publications, such as Seriously Sensual, Juice Magazine, Tightrope Magazine, Underground Joyride, Diamond Lifestyles, and Gloss Magazine Online along with other publications. Adding to his extremely lengthy resume as a known print model, Travis has begun to break into the runway market nationwide. He has recently blazed the runways as a featured celebrity model for numerous runway projects, and recently the XY runway show, and iCandy 2 in Chicago IL, both produced by the legendary Blake Martin. In addition to molding himself into a nationally known entertainer, Travis has begun using his teaching skills to help new and aspiring models follow their dream. Travis has worked with numerous aspiring models to learn the business side of the industry, and start or add to their portfolio with amazing images. Travis Lee Ferguson is becoming more and more a hot commodity in the fashion/ modeling world. Each day, he is making progress toward maximizing his full potential, gaining experience in print modeling, runway, editorial, event hosting, and acting. Traveling from coast to coast, Travis Lee Ferguson is becoming a familiar name, and face in the entertainment industry!

While in college, Travis welcomed the most influential part of his life: a baby boy. As a new father, Travis had a sense of urgency to fulfill his dreams and set an example to his son on how to follow his goals relentlessly. The birth of his son taught Travis the importance of managing his priorities and staying grounded to what he believes in, which has propelled his career to new heights in this fast moving industry.

Boyfriends Come and Go, but FASHION is Forever My l i f el o n g o b s e s s i o n By Alaina Brandenburger

From the moment I trie d on my first pair of my grandmother’s shoes ,

I knew that one day I would fill them. My grandma was a classy, elegant woman with refined taste. She never had a hair out of place and always left the house with her face on. I remember playing in her closet for hours. Be it shoes, makeup, scarves, purses or jewelry, I passed time at my grandma’s house making mental notes of what kinds of accessories she had, and how she put her outfits together. When I was little, I took scraps of fabric from whatever craft project my mom was working on and creatively draped and taped them into Barbie clothes. (I never had the Ken doll or the dream house. My Barbie lived in Manhattan and edited magazines.) These days, I tend to use fashion as an escape. While I do not possess a Kardashian-style shopping budget, I do like scouring consignment shops, boutique stores and fast fashion retailers for new outfits. I also stream New York Fashion Week on my computer, and regularly read Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to see what’s new. Some people consider this to be superficial. Contrary to my social circle, some women couldn’t care less about what they are wearing. They are fine walking out the door in ripped jeans and a Rush concert tee. They also routinely turn up their noses at haute couture and conceptual fashion shows.

“I feel like I can take over the world when I am wearing something I like. It makes me feel more confident and powerful.” -Lilli

“My favorite outfits are the ones that make me feel young and beautiful! When I dress up, I want the whole world to stop and stare at me.” -Colleen I don’t consider a love of clothes to be superficial. For me, fashion is the ultimate form of art, because you can see it anywhere and everyone has a unique spin. I understand the process that goes into designing and showing a collection, and it’s no different than making a series of paintings for a gallery installment. For some reason, going to an art opening is considered “cultured” while going to a fashion show is considered “snobbish.” Fashion is just as much an art as photography, painting, sculpting, etc. Seeing a truly awe-inspiring piece walk the runway moves me as much as a painting by one of the greats. Who can forget the angels and demons-themed collection that would be Alexander McQueen’s last? Though there was a bittersweet quality to it, it was a moving tribute to the late designer. The collection was inspired by Byzantine-era art, which could be seen in the details of each and every piece. Much like art, fashion has the power to be very uplifting. Most of the people I know have that go-to piece in their closet that makes them feel like a sexy vixen, or a confident person, or a serious person. I have a pair of 5-inch stilettos with a colorful, fun print that I can swear make me walk like a supermodel. People always compliment them, and it makes me feel good. At the very least, I feel like I’ve provided a moment of joy in someone’s day. Maybe they will be inspired to take a fashion risk simply by looking at my shoes.

I know that I am not alone in this. Women everywhere use fashion as a way to perk themselves up. My friend Lilli says, “I feel like I can take over the world when I am wearing something I like. It makes me feel more confident and powerful.” Colleen has certain clothes reserved for days when she needs them. “My favorite outfits are the ones that make me feel young and beautiful! When I dress up, I want the whole world to stop and stare at me.” Clothes that fit correctly and flatter get you noticed. The right pair of jeans can lift up your butt and make you feel perfect in your own skin. Shari also likes shopping for items that make her feel good about herself. “My favorite outfit makes me feel like a million bucks! It’s a wrap dress, and I wear it with knee high boots in the winter and open toes pumps in the summer. I always get compliments on it and it looks like I took a lot longer to get ready that I actually did.” Like me, Shari also window shops when feeling bored or blue. “It’s so fun to look and feel.” Friends of mine think that I’m crazy when I go to the mall without money. I don’t buy anything. I just think it’s fun to people watch or try new makeup products to buy later. I also like looking at people and window displays to see how outfits are put together. While sitting in a plush chair eating a pretzel, I may see someone walk by who is wearing an outfit that I never would have come up with on my own. I can put it in my memory and draw on it during future outings. I appreciate people with all different styles. You don’t have to be a Jackie O or an Audrey Hepburn. I appreciate people who take their fashion cues from Sid Vicious or the National Western complex too. It’s all in the way they carry themselves.

“I like buying items that are classic but unique. I would rather invest in items that I can wear for a long time.” -Krystal

Fashion is all about finding what works for you and working it. My friend Krystal and I are like minded in shopping habits. She usually gravitates toward more high end merchandise than me. “I like buying items that are classic but unique. I would rather invest in items that I can wear for a long time.” Gretchen also makes trends work for her. “I buy clothes that are on-trend but with my own style. They make me feel confident and attractive. I do shop when I need to ‘reward’ myself for working hard or having a bad day.”

When it comes down to it, even people who don’t consider themselves to be trendy find comfort in fashion. My sister reminds me of Anne Hathaway at the beginning of ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ but only because I can imagine myself giving her the cerulean belt lecture. She is not entirely in the dark about fashion. She gravitates toward clothing that makes her look cute. Every woman holds her head a little higher when wearing a flattering outfit. We all have those go-to items that make us happy when we put them on. Some people even hang onto clothing for sentimental reasons. Although you probably won’t wear your wedding dress again, you will always remember how it made you feel. And that feeling is priceless.

A Touching “Thank You” From Honduras

Emily Briceland (of Travel4Souls), received a small package in the mail. After eagerly opening it, her heart melted. Inside, she found a hand-written letter from Mr. Reynolds. He assists Travel4Souls when it comes time to ship shoes to Honduras for our distribution trips. He was recently in the country when he came across a little boy who desperately needed a pair of shoes. He wrote:

“These were the shoes worn by a young boy when he arrived at Orphanage Emmanuel. He was given new shoes from Soles4Souls. Thank you for improving the lives of so many children in Honduras.

Our Mission

Soles4Souls collects new shoes to give relief to the victims of abject suffering and collects used shoes to support micro-business efforts to eradicate poverty. Soles4Souls’ other two divisions, Clothes4Souls and Hope4Souls, provide the same relief and support through clothing and other necessities.

Our HISTORY

Soles4Souls has a simple concept: we procure shoes and get them to those in need. In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami that hit Southeast Asia, Wayne Elsey, the Founder of Soles4SoulsÂŽ Inc., felt compelled to do something. Like many of us, he did not know what to do. He was at home one night, watching TV and he saw a picture of a single shoe washing up on the beach. That triggered a few calls to some other executives in the footwear industry and the subsequent donation of a quarter of a million shoes to victims in the devastated countries. A few months later when Katrina hit, Wayne called the same group of friends, and through our continued support, we have sent over a million pairs of shoes down to the gulf coast communities affected by the hurricane. In all honesty, he admits that he did not expect such an immediate and successful turnout. This left him wondering, why not start a non-profit and do this all the time? One year later, Soles4Souls was formally created. It has been that simple: changing the world one pair at a time.
