Lana Takori is the creative mind behind the exclusive knitwear brand, Tak.Ori Italy. What Is Positive Energy?

ALEX AND ANI products are infused with positive energy. Ancients referred to this precious energy as “chi” and “prana,” whereas modern science refers to it as vital force. It is the natural energy that supports life.

How Does ALEX AND ANI Utilize The Power Of Positive Energy?

We embrace the power of positive energy as our core company belief. Each product is infused with positive energy in three important ways. First, the products themselves are manufactured (and infused) with positive intention in carefully selected American factories. Second, the symbols featured in our designs carry their own energy and are accompanied by thoughtfully crafted and meticulously researched meaning. Last, each design is positively intended to empower the wearer and reflect the unique qualities of the individual. Some pieces carry sentimental meaning; others are talismans of protection, power, or intention. The beauty of each collection is that you are the designer. Mixing symbolic pieces with your own alchemy makes ALEX AND ANI completely and uniquely yours.

The concept of MeDusa came to life in 2009, when Israeli designers Gili Rozin Tamam and Adi Gal searched for a way to bring innovative textiles into the fashion and accessories industry. They were driven by the desire to create something completely new in the fashion accessory market, to take a relatively wellknown material and use it in a groundbreaking and innovative way. Immediately drawn to the unique look that resulted from sculpting a compound of industrial plastic in vibrant hues, the designers found the basis to their signature style of bags, purses, and clutches. MeDusa seamlessly blends vintage shapes with modern textures, designing contemporary urban styles with a knack for the edgy details. Beyond style, MeDusa takes pride in the fact that all its designs are cruelty-free, ecofriendly, and incredibly durable. Named after the infamous Greek deity, and the Hebrew word for “jellyfish”, MeDusa is dominantly influenced by the all the beautiful colors and patterns found in sea life.

3-D PRINTING is the new BLACK By Jeni Tetamore

The wheel may have been the first of the greatest inventions of all time, the printing press the second, and the 3D printer could be the third ultimate invention in history. It is responsible for the creation of toys, body parts, cars, and even homes! But the most ingenious developments are still to come with innovations to the fashion industry already in place. The fashion industry is the third largest consumer of water, making it also the third dirtiest industry in the world behind the likes of big oil and corporate paper. Cotton is quite possibly the filthiest of all the fabrics in that it not only takes the most water to produce, but the largest amount of insecticides to protect. Sustainability in fashion has become a conversation centered on organic or recyclable materials, conscientious shipping, and fair wages for those who make the garments. It’s time to change the conversation.

42  FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

|

APR2015

3D printing techniques now use a biodegradable plastic – bioplastic – made from corn. MakerBot, one of the largest 3D printing houses based in Brooklyn, NY, explains that the PLA (bioplastic that they use to build each item layer by layer with a technique called additive manufacturing) is also reusable where it can be melted down and recycled as the user sees fit. This has tremendous connotations in the fashion industry where the cloth could be made and re-made to meet current trends while producing zero waste in addition to creating prototypes and then melting down the failures for future use to experiment with again! How it works: The 3D printer uses ultraviolet beams to fuse layers of powdered, recyclable thermoplastic into shape, leaving behind virtually no waste. It works in and through, weaving the thermoplastic together into the size and shape that was put into the computer.

What about a Fabric Pen that took the place of your sewing kit? At the Electrolux Design Lab competition in 2014 this is exactly what was submitted by Ingrida Kazenaite, a student at VDA Kaunas in Lithuania. This handy little tool is a wand-like fabric particle delivery system that creates fabric by printing a patch that is automatically attached to the damaged area of your clothing!

But maybe you’re still thinking, but this still requires plastic and electricity and everything. True, but on a much smaller scale. Here are some ways 3D printing is changing the face of sustainable fashion: 1. Smaller Carbon Footprint – Designers begin well in advance before a product ever hits the retail market. 3D printing allows for as much trial and error as necessary, deciding on materials ahead of time, which not only saves time but gobs of vendor samples that inevitably wind up in the garbage at the end of the season. Additionally, they don’t have to ship out for the production of their samples since most 3D printing occurs domestically, saving the time, money, and the fuel exhaust puffing its way into the atmosphere. 2. No Production Waste – Designers can limit their production minimum to a count of one and, if they are happy with it, melt it down and try again. This also allows designers to produce items to custom fit to individual customers. This eliminates waste and extraneous costs, saves space and reduces the need for storage. 3. Using Recycled Materials – It’s phenomenal what can be used as printing material! Nylon filaments, plastics, metal, silk, the list goes on and on. Will. I. AM and Coca-Cola teamed up to market the Cube 3D printer for home users where their cartridges use filament processed from discarded plastic soda bottles! Cheers! 4. Biodegradable Materials – Bioplastics made from corn such as the one created and implemented by MakerBot is at the top of the list, but there are many who are experimenting with ways to “cook” your own bioplastic from a mixture of starch, glycerin, vinegar, and water. Who knows where this may lead, but I hear the beauty industry may be considering 3d printed cosmetics!

5. Extending the Life of Existing Products What would you do if you had the power to manufacture your missing button, a replacement heel for your favorite pumps, build your own watch band? Upcycling is already trending and this is just one more to keep your favorites in your wardrobe longer. Some of this is still theory. The technology isn’t there yet to create true fabric, yet, but 3D printing is already changing the face of fashion. Shoes, jewelry, fake nails, and other accessories are already being created using 3D printing and are on the market for your enjoyment! Designers Who Use 3-D Printing: *Jiri Evenhuis * Janne Kyttanen (Freedom of Creation) was among the first to try creating textiles with 3D printing * Hot Pop Factory/printing jewelry * New Balance/printing shoes * Ron Arab/printing sunglasses

Why EARTH wood sunglasses? Buying sunglasses combines style and safety. Shopping for sunglasses can be an enjoyable experience; however the selection can be very confusing. Will a $300 pair of sunglasses be better than a $10 pair from the flea market? What type of lens represents lasting quality? How will the sunglasses protect you and present yourself to the world? EARTH wood sunglasses must offer more than a fashion look. Below we have listed the important questions to ask when buying nonprescription sunglasses. First, does the cost of the sunglasses represent the quality of sunglasses? No! Many companies have expensive advertising budgets to convince the consumer the value of their product. Regarding quality, there are 4 main factors.

46  FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

|

APR2015

Sunglasses provide protection from ultraviolet rays in sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) light damages the cornea and the retina. EARTH wood sunglasses eliminate 100% of the UV rays. Sunglasses provide protection from the sunlight. When too much light hits the eye, it naturally closes the iris. Once the iris closes you will start to squint. Too much light, as there can be when sunlight is reflecting off of snow, the result is

damage to the retina. We do not suggest wearing EARTH wood sunglasses when snow skiing; as specialty lens are needed. However EARTH wood sunglasses will protect your eyes from excessive sun in normal situations. Sunglasses provide protection from glare. Select surfaces can reflect a great deal of light, and the bright spots can be distracting or can hide objects. EARTH wood sunglasses can completely eliminate this type of glare as all EARTH wood sunglasses use polarization. Sunglasses can remove specific frequencies of light. Some light can blur vision, and others can enhance

contrast. Selecting the correct color shade allows your sunglasses to work better in specific situations. EARTH wood sunglasses are shaded dark enough to remove the majority of the frequencies of light. Polarization is a common phase when buying sunglasses. Many sunglass brands claim polarization however they fail to meet the definition. Polarization can be tested. Find a reflective surface, and hold the glasses so that you are viewing the surface through

one of the lenses. Slowly rotate the glasses to a 90-degree angle, and the glare will diminish. All EARTH wood sunglasses provide full polarization. Scratch-resistant is not scratch proof. All sunglasses can become scratched however EARTH wood sunglasses via the 100% UV protection offers increased protection. When the glasses are not being used, please place sunglasses in a soft protective pouch. All EARTH wood sunglasses come with a protective cloth pouch to act as a cleaning cloth and protector of the lens.

CORK is an exciting and unique leather alternative. The production of cork material is exceptionally environmentally friendly thanks to the sustainability of the cork oak, the harvesting process and the industry’s concerns with maintaining a light environmental footprint. “I started Wills with a passion to provide animal and human friendly shoes with high-street styles and prices. My dream is to bridge the gap between everyday people and ethically produced vegan shoes. Wills is about getting the latest fashions out there at fair prices, while not hurting animals or people in the process. No matter who you are or where you’re going in life,

Wills are there for when you want to make a positive choice.

The entire range is free of animal products while workers are paid in accordance with European guidelines. Wills really is an animal and human friendly company. My contemporary designs echo the high street trends, packed into four seasons giving you a year round alternative. Wills are designed with quality in mind. The range is created with microfibers that look, wear, breathe and resist water just like leather. I believe buying something well made saves money, provides something to cherish and is better for our environment. Best of all my shoes match the high street prices dropping the barriers to living an ethical life.” -Will

Elvis & Kresse have been reclaiming heroic materials ever since we fell in love with London Fire Brigade’s decommissioned firehose. After a distinguished career fighting fires and saving lives the hoses were destined for landfill. We started to rescue it in 2005 and never looked back. 62  FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

|

APR2015

More materials soon followed, Kresse has always had an obsession with waste and likes nothing better than discovering and intercepting something new. The challenge is the same every time - what can we do to prove value, change perception, and respect these resources. We dream of a time without landfill, when everything is recycled or composted. Between now and then we know there are far too many incredible materials that will either languish under ground or suffer the indignity of incineration; when that happens we lose, we lose quality, narrative, and the opportunity to do

something great. So we intercede, choosing story laden materials of incredible character, and do everything we can to ensure their second life is as long as possible. We are constantly searching for more materials to grow our range of bags, belts and wallets, and have rescued over 200 tonnes so far. Design traditionally begins with an idea, for Elvis & Kresse, design begins with a problem. It is the material and the scale of the problem which dictate what we will make and how we make it. In the case of the hose, we scrubbed away the soot and grease that builds up after 25 years of active duty and

MESSENGER £230.00 | $342.00

discovered a truly remarkable, truly green textile. We wanted to honour this tough, life saving material, hence our focus on quality craftsmanship and classic, timeless design. We build as much value as we can into each piece and style them for use beyond single seasons. All Elvis & Kresse products are hand-made and unique. It would never be enough to give an old fire hose a somewhat useful life, we must transform it, make it desirable or useful in and of itself; something you would want even if it were not recycled, even without the ethics. He spent five years perfecting a billfold wallet - ensuring malleability, strength, and classic, practical styling. And although it is here, and it is wonderful, he is still working on it. This same dedication is applied to everything we do, from how we collect and prepare our materials to how we finish and package the pieces.

Our process emulates kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. The refurbished pieces are worth significantly more than their new, undamaged counterparts. Our materials are shown this same level of care, they are cherished. Elvis & Kresse make honest, genuine, practical pieces; from the belt you leave on your favourite jeans to the bag you couldn’t leave home without. Elvis & Kresse is tradition re-engineered.

e seek to highlight and unify present real world practices for creating, structuring and sustaining creative networks. With the explosion in communication technology ‘the creative power of networks and communities’ is becoming more and more apparent and a much talked about direction for all industries, especially the Creative industries. And while creative networks gain more involvement and relevance in the creative industries, therefore suggest they ‘support innovation in a variety of other industry sectors’ affecting an economy’s innovation performance’. It is of clear benefit to identify existing models for networking and to obtain a clear overview of how they support their individual members.

To belong is at the core of us, one of our deep human needs. Maslow’s ‘A theory of human motivation’ has entertained a unique place within Sociology and puts belonging as a basic requirement in the pursuit of self-fulfilment. It is an integral part of human existence and the ability for Networks, through shared experience and shared knowledge, to provide community, connections, positive feedback and support in understanding and developing our talent means that networks are an immensely effective and powerful setting for personal and social growth. With natural capacities we are all born with, true talent comes from hard work developing those capacities; in a group of supportive people (near or far, past or present) with shared goals it becomes uniquely possible to work towards this development and ‘self-fulfilment’, described by Gerwith (1999) as “Carrying to fruition one’s deepest desires or one’s worthiest capacities”. How do creative networks provide a sense of belonging and fulfilment?

GET A LYFE! Article By: Tosha Cole Clemens

I’m sure everyone can agree on one thing, everyone wants to look and feel better! Most of us try diets only to end up frustrated because we can’t maintain the extreme limitations on our favorite foods. Others join a gym and try to get disciplined to a workout schedule and yet again we realize we have to also watch what we put into our bodies. When in reality, everything is about a balance. Exercise, diet, and maintenance are the keys to creating a healthy balanced life.

What do I mean by maintenance? Well, think about it this way, your car would not run unless you change the oil, add gas, replace the tires, etc. Our bodies are also a machine. So why do we think our bodies are different than a car? We have to invest in ourselves, be proactive to take care of the one body we have. The maintenance I am referring to is cleaning out our bodies or better known as detoxing. Detoxing is a way to rid yourself of harmful chemicals that you are exposed to on a daily basis. If we don’t take the time to clean out our system, it becomes hard on our organs to handle this load. Think of it in terms of a clogged drain. A drain cannot function properly if it is clogged. However, once a product is added to release the clogged drain, it is free to function normally. The same is true with our bodies. I am always on the lookout for natural products that aid in helping maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lyfe Tea offers a natural way to eliminate the toxins in our bodies. We develop toxins whether it is from the environment we are in or the food we eat. It is important for our well-being to cleanse ourselves from these harmful factors. Not only will you lose weight, you will boost your metabolism and improve your digestive system. Are you the type of person that hesitates to try new products until you see proven results? Well, I’m sure you will be convinced once you see how thousands of people have transformed their bodies by using Lyfe Tea. Once I discovered Lyfe Tea’s website, I took a look at their instagram page and was blown away with all the celebrities that have used their products. They have also been voted the best product to eliminate toxins by Dr. Oz. Now if that isn’t convincing then I don’t know what is! What I love most about this brand is the fact that their products are all natural and include vitamins, minerals, vital proteins, antioxidants, omega oils, and other added benefits. To see before and after transformations, as well as all the celebrities using Lyfe Tea, go to: https://instagram.com/lyfe_tea/ Let’s transform our bodies from the inside out!

We are proud to use only the highest quality vegetable-tanned leathers in all HARE+HART products. Vegetable-tanning is an ancient practice in which the leather is tanned using natural tannins and other materials found in vegetable matter, such as tree bark, roots, leaves and fruits. The resulting leathers are thicker and more durable than standard chrome tanned hides, and the process is significantly more environmentally friendly. Approximately 90% of our hides originate in South America (the rest are sourced from other parts of the world) where they are cured with a salt brine. Much like pickling, this preserves the hide and prevents bacteria from growing.

80  FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

|

APR2015

The hide is then cleaned by a process called liming, in which the hides are soaked in drums containing lime liquors. This is followed by de-liming, which is not ‘un-cleaning’, but, rather, priming the leather for the vegetabletannins by removing the lime agents. But before the tanning occurs, each hide goes through a sort of spa/yoga experience called bating, which makes it softer and more flexible. Finally, each hide is tanned using vegetable based tannins and dried.

But the journey doesn’t end there. Our leathers are then shipped to our partner finishing facilities near Hong Kong. Here the hides are colored, conditioned and buffed to give them our desired color and finish. We usually use the natural grain texture, but we are also beginning to experiment with new embossing techniques. Once the leathers primped and perfect, they are ready to be crafted into your new handbag.

DYING FOR Article by Jeni Tetamore

In Medieval times only prisoners, clown, prostitutes, hangmen, and the condemned wore stripes. That pattern itself was seen as evil, no one knows for sure why, but a French cobbler was sent to his death because he was caught wearing striped clothes! Ummmm… Kind of makes you think twice about what you might having hanging in your closet, doesn’t it? French social historian Michel Pastoureau states that it was during European Middle Ages that striped cloth took on strong connotations of deviance and abasement. That the contrasting bold stripes seemed to convey an ambivalence, ambiguity, and a realm of unclear and violated boundaries. This is the reason why the traditional clown, with its broad color and clashing stripes, could derive his humor from transgressing the boundaries of orderly society. However, the wearing of stripes soon became something that became associated also with leisure and fun and lost its immediate death sentence.

Andy Warhol, 1965 wearing Breton Shirt

In the Victorian Era, Queen Victoria dressed her fouryear old son Albert in a sailor suit, complete with the striped pants, and ever since people have been enamored with children wearing stripes of any kind. It was because of Napoleon that the French navy began wearing blue and white striped shirts, 21 stripes to be exact, one for each of Napoleon’s victories. Stripes became most popular for swimming suits – again mimicking sailor’s suits. It was Coco Chanel who eventually brought the bold navy and white stripe shirt – or Breton, named for the Breton workers who most wore them in the latter half of the 19th century - mainstream for women after visiting the French Rivera.

background: galleryhip.com

Slightly later in the 20th century, did men begin taking back ownership of the Breton shirt with artist such as Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. Thus, the wearing of stripes became the most asexual fashion choice in history. To complete this look, though, seems to require a certain contrast...

Yin for its Yang. Enter in our love affair with polka dots circa 1926 when Miss America was photographed in a polka dot bathing suit. If stripes were rebellious then polka dots were subversive! They were playful, dizzy, daring, and darling with Minnie Mouse leading the charge in 1928. But how in the world did we start calling them “polka” dots? The word “polka” is Polish for “Polish woman” while in Czech it translates literally into “little woman or girl”. In the mid-19th century the polka was a dance that became hugely popular throughout Europe which then coined the phrase “polkamania” in order to describe its own excitement. The “polka” craze headed west and enthusiasts created items such as the polka jacket and polka hat (neither has spots), but the dots may have been truly inspired by the dance which has regulated, short bursts of energy.

Taking stripes and polka dots together, mixing these contrasting patterns, allows the wearer to be bold, daring, rebellious, and subversive. They are fashion forward and trendsetting. But there are rules! First – one of the prints should always stand out more than the other. Big, oversized stripes with teeny, tiny dots or huge dots with thin stripes. You don’t want your prints fighting for focus. Secondly – black and white goes great with everything. If your dots and strips are black and white and you’ve paired it up with another color, you are looking chic and monochromatic. Remember, only wear one, at most two, base colors if you’re going to go for this stunning style. Third – Stay within the guidelines of your color scheme. If your choosing red, black, and gray, striped sweater, go for polka dots in the same hues as the sweater. (The exception is seen in rule #2). Fourth – Big and little of the same pattern. Mixing polka dots or stripes but of two different sizes in the same outfit. This can be tricky, so stay in the same color scheme and one pattern must be larger than the other. But have fun with it, don’t be afraid to experiment and dresscorilynn.com try something new. You never know. You may be the next trend.

PURE GROWN DIAMONDS ARE THE EARTH’S BEST FRIEND

During the Valentine’s Day engagement season, when diamond prices are skyrocketing, Pure Grown Diamonds announces a scientific breakthrough with the unveiling of the first-ever, world’s largest, laboratory-cultivated white diamonds that are indistinguishable from mined diamonds, even under a microscope, yet cost 30 to 40 percent less, according to the International Gemological Institute. The world’s largest laboratory Pure Grown Diamond was cultivated in November 2014. It is certified by the International Gemological Institute. It is a near colorless 3.04 carat, round stone, I color, SI1 clarity, very good cut. It sells for $23,012 on www. PureGrownDiamonds.com.

diamond starts at $5,000 and can cost more than $10,000. - Most Pure Grown Diamonds are E-H color and VVS1-VS2 clarity certified. The highest colorless rating is D. The highest clarity rating is VVS1. The company has been quietly growing and harvesting thousands of white, yellow and pink diamonds and making earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings for the Valentine’s Day 2015 global launch of its e-commerce website: PureGrownDiamonds.com.

- A mined diamond of near identical characteristics sells for approximately $40,000 at some of the best-known jewelry retailers in America. - One carat round diamonds are the most popular for engagement rings in the U.S. - Pure Grown Diamonds quality one carat stones are priced from $1,000 to $3,000. A one carat earth-mined The Federal Trade Commission confirms that these diamonds have the same chemical, physical and visual properties as earth-mined diamonds.

Academy Award Best Supporting Actress Winner Patricia Arquette unveiled a global scientific breakthrough just before the annual Oscar ceremonies -- the first-ever, world’s largest lab-cultivated Pure Grown Diamond, which is indistinguishable from an earth-mined diamond, even under a microscope, yet costs 30 to 40 per cent less, according to the International Gemological Institute.

“Pure Grown Diamonds are the reasonably-priced, eco-friendly, conflict-free preference of shoppers seeking value; for consumers concerned about the environmental impact of mining; for people troubled by the history of human rights violations and greed-motivated violence in the mining regions of developing countries,” says Bissell, a seasoned diamond business executive – among the few women CEO’s in her industry. Many of the company’s jewelry pieces are priced as low as $300. The difference between earth-mined diamonds and Pure Grown Diamonds are detectible only by highly sophisticated spectroscopic equipment and from Pure Grown Diamonds’ laser-scribed identifications on the stones’ girdles that read, “Laboratory Grown.” This is a voluntary policy of transparency that clearly identifies the source of the diamond. “Pure Grown Diamonds are not artificial; not synthetic; not cubic zirconium; not costume jewelry. They are diamonds,” emphasizes Bissell.

PUREGROWNDIAMONDS.COM

“This is a true 21st Century technological achievement that is the eco-friendly and conflictfree solution in diamond mining,” says Arquette, who emphasized the extensive environmental damage caused by mining and the history of human rights violations associated with so-called ‘blood diamonds.’

She continues, “There is no blood involved with this diamond, which is why it is beautiful in its own-right, but it is especially beautiful because no children died for this diamond; there were no slave wages paid to people for this diamond; there was an actual working wage paid to create this diamond and that’s about love.” 2015APR | FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

FASHION HELPING OTHERS IN THE NAME OF

ONE STITCH CLOSER 2015APR | FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

THE STORY

Ix Style was founded by Francesca Kennedy, whose family is originally from Guatemala. Francesca was always motivated by the poverty, violence, lack of opportunities for education, and the alarming need for clean water in Guatemala.

On a flight to visit her grandfather in Panajachel, Guatemala, Francesca read Start Something That Matters by TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie.

Founder/Designer Francesca Kennedy

During that trip, Francesca saw children drinking contaminated water in Lake Atitlan. She knew had to do something to help. Inspired by the local Mayan textiles and leather craftsmanship, Ix Style was created.

WHY WOMEN?

Typically, women are the ones who run a household, care for children, and provide them with food and drinking water. According to the WHO, women invest 90% of earned income into their communities and families, compared with 30% for men. Women spend this money on nutrition, medicine and housing; consequently their children are healthier. Investing in women is a great way to invest in communities.

WHO MAKES OUR SHOES?

ONE STITCH CLOSER

The artisans who weave Ix sandals come from a variety of communities in Guatemala. Most are from the Lake Atitlan region that inspired Francesca to start Ix Style. We’re about empowering women to overcome poverty and become agents of change in their communities. Our artisans are part of a nonprofit organization in Guatemala comprised of over 800 women!

WHY GUATEMALA?

In Guatemala, around 2 out of 3 children go to bed hungry. But by empowering fair trade with artisans in Guatemala, you are helping empower those women in their communities who work with us to reduce child-malnutrition. Now with your help we’re helping women lift themselves out of poverty so their kids don’t go to bed without a nutritious meal! And just for doing so you’re also receiving a product with all the love & care that goes into each pair - felt by everyone who wears them. All of our sandals are

carefully handmade by these amazing artisans who put their heart & tradition into each and every pair.

WHY WATER?

Unsafe water and lack of sanitation cause more deaths each year than all forms of violence, including war. Children should be attending school instead of walking hours a day to collect contaminated water.

OUR GREEN COMMITMENT A tree has been planted in Guatemala for each pair of shoes purchased through our donations to AIRGuatemala (www.airguatemala.org). Since 1993 AIR has planted nearly 4 million trees in severely deforested areas of Guatemala which help improve soil quality and prevent soil erosion and mudslides. They have earned another top spot on the prestigious Top-Rated Nonprofit List! Less than 1% of eligible nonprofits won a place on the 2013 Top-Rated List.

JOIN A WATER MISSION

We’re all skeptical of charitable companies - are they really helping? That’s why we invite EVERYONE to join us on a water mission in Guatemala. We also invite everyone to meet the artisans we work with! It will change your life - the artisans (above) are great! Please apply by sending an email to fkennedy@ixstyle.com. 2015APR | FASHIONAFFAIRMAGAZINE.COM

OUR MISSION

To provide clean drinking water to children and communities.

HOW DO WE HELP??

By supporting and working with our non-profit partners. By empowering our artisans through commerce and production. By paying a premium on each pair to make sure each purchase is ethical. And while our focus and heart is in Guatemala, we coordinate with our partners that do work internationally, as well. Because, ultimately, no child is more important than another.

HOW DO YOU HELP??

By buying a pair, you help provide clean drinking water to children through water filtration systems, rain collection units and wells. Each purchase makes a difference in freeing up time for kids.

Children who normally would walk miles a day to collect water for their families can instead spend that time in school. Education is the single most effective way to break the cycle of poverty.
