The Toowoomba Grammar School Volleyball program continues to produce national and state standard athletes, with four players and two coaches selected to represent Queensland this year. Thomas Cocks and Andrew Byrnes (Year 12), Sam Noble (Year 11), Hussein Yusaf (Year 10) and Will Smith (Year 8) were all named in the 2021 Queensland Volleyball team in their respective age divisions. TGS Director of Volleyball, Mr Eric Smith was selected as Queensland U15 boys’ Head Coach and TGS coach, Ms Jess Croucher was appointed the State U17 girls’ Head Coach. Unfortunately, the teams won’t have the chance to compete at national level this year due to COVID, but they did the School, and Queensland, proud at the State Championships that were held on the Gold Coast from 2-4 October, with some outstanding results – Will’s team placed third overall, Hussein’s team won silver in a very tight final and Mr Smith’s team were gold medallists. 2021 Volleyball Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup Toowoomba Grammar School was excited to host the 2021 Volleyball Queensland Intermediate Schools’ Cup in May. It was the first time we have had this honour, with our School selected due to the first-class facilities offered here, particularly the Glen McCracken Sports Centre.
volleyballers to play six or seven matches in a short time span and grow as players. Many schools train all year for the VQISC which is the pinnacle of their volleyball competition as it’s regarded as the highest level of school competition for volleyball.
Two hundred teams (approx. 2,000 players) of the state’s best volleyballers converged on Toowoomba for the three-day event. It was a great opportunity for young
