Lest We Forget
Old Boys’ Memorial Oval provided a stunning setting for our annual ANZAC Day service hosted by the TGS Cadet Unit. The service runs in conjunction with our biennial Grandparents’ Day, which is always a special occasion for our boys and their families and one of the TGS staff members’ favourite events.
Almost 300 grandparents attended the service, overseen by special guests, Lieutenant Colonel Donald “Andy” Baker and Captain Malcolm Woodside. Past TGS parents, the Zuccoli-Handley family once again provided a spectacular flyover in old warbirds.
In a moving tribute, Year 10 students knelt before a cross in honour of the TGS Old Boys who gave their lives in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan. Year 1 teacher, Mrs Jessica Galbraith, organised her annual memorial for the Junior School students. The younger boys quietly and respectfully placed flowers on the sand lettering as a tribute to our war veterans, both past and present.
When the service concluded, families enjoyed morning tea on the Promenade before the boys proudly took their grandparents on a tour of the School. It was wonderful to see the joy on everyone’s faces, the amazement about how learning has changed with the introduction of technology, the beautiful facilities and the incredible opportunities available for the boys.
It was a magical day to make fond memories and showcase all that TGS has to offer.
