Our Music Students Hit The Right Note In an impressive feat for Toowoomba Grammar School’s Performing Arts Program, eleven of our students have been recognised at national or state level for their musical disciplines. Year 10 student, Ruben Fitton and Year 12 students, Angus Mohr and Hamish Wells have been accepted into the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP). The event was held from 29 September to 2 October at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University and is the highest level of achievement for the Honours program.
to achieve musical excellence under the leadership of a team of internationally recognised Australian conductors. It is an extension of the highly successful State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) delivered in Queensland since 2001. The program includes nine regional, two SE Queensland-based and one statewide program.
Ruben and Hamish were selected for their outstanding vocal ability, while Angus was recognised as a talented cellist. The boys were amongst thousands of hopefuls from across Australia who auditioned for the program, with just over 100 performers selected. To be eligible for selection, vocalists must have an AMEB grade 4 or equivalent, and instrumentalists must have reached AMEB grade 6 or above.
TGS was proud to be represented in the state program by Year 12 students Sean Bain (Viola) and James Crothers (Alto Saxophone) as well as Year 7 students Nethul Manamperi (Clarinet) and Finlay Waring (Clarinet).
AHEP will provide these students and their peers with an intensive environment

SHEP was held during the weekend of 21-23 May. These talented young musicians were thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop their skills with 127 like-minded students from 20 schools across the Darling Downs and Western Queensland regions. They were under the guidance of eminent conductors associated with the Queensland Conservatorium: Jeanette Douglas (Wind Ensemble), Lisa Stevenson (String Ensemble) and Joanne Wright (Vocal Ensemble); Melissa Buchholz accompanied them. To have eleven students recognised at such a high level is a testament to the dedication and expertise of music staff and tutors at Toowoomba Grammar School and our music students’ hard work and commitment.
