month and another opportunity to reach and impact our community. March is a period of transition – the

month straddles two seasons. As the season changes,

so too does our focus. We’re coming out of the month of love and moving into a month of historical significance.

March is Human Rights Month, a time to reflect on

how far we have come as a nation. Given South Africa’s traumatic past, it is comforting to note the many positive developments over the years.

Human Rights Month is commemorated to remind

South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in our

country. This year we commemorate Human Rights Month under the theme: “The Year of Unity and Renewal: Protecting and Preserving our Human Rights Gains”.

These Human Rights include:

Moving Into March

Equality – everyone is equal before the law and has

the right to equal protection and benefit of the law.

Human dignity – everyone has inherent dignity and have their dignity respected and protected.

Freedom of movement and residence – everyone has a right to freedom of movement and to reside anywhere in the country

Language and culture – everyone has the right to use the language and to participate in the cultural life of their choice. Life - everyone has the right to life.

May we foster greater social cohesion, nationbuilding and a shared national identity as we

ensure that we combat social-ills such as racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, gender-based

violence and femicide, which are undermining our human rights culture.

Whether we are at the workplace, within communities,

at schools, or with our families and children, we all need

to demonstrate the kind of responsibility that we would like to see in our country’s future. May we foster greater social cohesion, nation-building and a shared national identity as we ensure that we combat social-ills such as

racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, gender-based violence and femicide, which are undermining our human rights culture.

Student Testimonial Ever since I've joined the IAMPASSION youth cafe there has been a positive slight change in myself more of my mindset. It has taught me even though I might not be where I want to be as a person it doesn't mean it's unattainable, IAMPASSION has changed my mindset in a way that has made me assure myself that I will reach the goals I have set for myself if in a positive mindset although it's not in the time limit I have set for myself. It has also given me more confidence in myself career wise in where I want to be.I have also taken and instilled within myself the quote "Living life one picture frame at a time-BVR" which I learned from Session 2 :Vision.I am really glad I signed up for IAMPASSION because it is a great stepping stone for a person who is still discovering their abilities and willing to explore and achieve whatever goals they've set for themselves.

Random acts of Kindness The purpose of Human Rights is to incorporate key values in our society such as fairness, respect, equality etc and also serves an important means of protection to all of us.. Our practice of random acts of kindness helps us learn to respect and love people just the way they are . Here are some cool random acts of kindness you can practise for Human Rights Month: -Give someone a compliment -Offer a hug -Write thank you notes to people that are dear to you and even to people you appreciate -Offer to make family members, your parents some tea or coffee. -Keep the door open for someone that is also entering a building Make it an everyday thing to be kind to someone and to show dignity to others . Most Importantly love your neighbour as you love yourself.

Student Testimonial How the Disruptor course has been impactful to me is; Truly an eye-opener at revealing and reminding me to value myself and the value I am and can bring to society around me in all relationship circles, also revealing gifts strengths, and abilities, that I already possess that are in my hands to propel me forward...

A definite take away in my self-improvement is being goaldriven, showing up for myself, that my S.W.O.T weaknesses are actually my greatest strengths and that the valued time and effort I prioritise can lead me to reaping my rewards
