DARE TO THINK DIFFERENTLY
"I have noticed that two things happen when you live through an era of rapid change, as we are now. Firstly, there is an inevitable surge of artistic creativity
and
second,
the
misfits,
the
contrarians, the underdogs, and the anti-heroes come into their own." - Lorraine Candy As we continue to evolve in unpredictable times, we hope that the tools and lessons contained herein
will
help
you
thrive
continually
throughout the year! We encourage you to not play by the normal rules, flourish, and welcome uncertainty without fear. This new FebruaryMarch issue of PULSE is dedicated to those people as mentioned above by Lorraine Candy the curious revolutionaries who dare to think differently.
02 Leadership mastery
MARCO WILLIAMS
OfF to a good start
After a successful week of open days, our space was filled with excitement as our first few
groups
of
students
began
our
Leadership Mastery course – an exhilarating experience for both students and facilitators. We kickstarted the course with the topic of “Getting to know you", where we focused on helping the participants discover who they are, the strengths they possess and the things that could potentially stop them from reaching their full potential. We saw shy students come out of their shells and gain confidence to speak in front of the entire class. We are so pleased to continue this journey with them and guide them along a path of personal development and enrichment.
03 students tell all
Our new students share their experiences with IAP Hear what Matthew Engelbrecht and Shaunice Waldeck had to say about their first week.
Matthew Engelbrecht My time with IAMPASSION has been amazing. I've discovered a few new things about myself like my strengths and weaknesses and I'm still learning more by the day. In the first class, I was a bit shy but as time went on I got used to interacting and sharing with others - slowly coming out of my comfort zone. Overall, my experience with IAMPASSION has been great and I'm excited about what's ahead.
Shaunice Waldeck
Attending classes at IAMPASSION thus far has been mind-blowing. I discovered so many things about myself especially this past week. It also made me realize that to know yourself you need to be yourself which IAMPASSION taught me on Monday. I am super excited to be a part of IAMPASSION. I know I’ll reach my full potential once I have completed this course.

05 healthy mind, wealthy mind Best practices for Mental Wellness
MEGAN-ANNE PRESS
A world-renowned Author and Neurologist, Caroline Leaf says, “Mental health issues are not on the rise but rather the mismanagement thereof." We have never been in a pandemic before - locked down in our houses, unable to gather with family or hang out with friends, console a loved one or even just hug those closest to us without having to second-guess every move we make and every breath we take. Our minds hold experiences and every experience triggers either a sense of security or insecurity. New experiences, in particular, trigger fear, anxiety, and uncertainty - not knowing what comes next and not knowing how to cope in a space we have never been or experienced before.
06 healthy mind, wealthy mind Best practices for Mental Wellness MEGAN-ANNE PRESS
Our mental health issues may not be on the rise but the reason there is mismanagement thereof could be because we are so used to our daily routine that the slight interruption has led us into a panic. The pandemic must end and a solution has to be found to go back to living without fear. The pandemic has united us all in the sense that the entire world has something in common. How we manage it, will determine the state of life postpandemic. To manage mental health well, we would need to be intentional about accepting the changes that came with the pandemic, as well as create newness in our lives in the smallest ways creating
new
family
traditions,
trying
new
adventurous things, or becoming your boss and letting your passion work for you.

08 well done class of 2020 Prudence Present
We want to celebrate the matric class of 2020 for their perseverance and grit in achieving success
in
their
final
year
of
secondary
education. It was a year to remember and we are so proud that though we saw a decrease in the average since 2019, we also saw great achievements all over the country this past year.
We saw how students had to adjust and adapt their way of learning - creating new ways of ensuring that they do not succumb to unhealthy pressure. We, therefore, want to congratulate every matriculant from the class of 2020 and wish them well with every endeavor they will embark on. Your future is as bright as you so keep on shining!
09 positioned for success Zeekoeivlei learner places third in the grade
My final school year has not been the easiest being caught up in a global pandemic and overcoming the challenges presented with remote learning. My main challenge was all the distractions in the form of movies and games which I had to constantly avoid due to the school work that required the same amount of effort as if I was sitting in a physical classroom. It required a lot of self-motivation and constantly answering the question, “What do I see at the end of all of this?” Moving towards that picture motivated me to complete my final school year successfully. I am particularly proud to have placed 3rd in my grade and it could
not

10 iampassion launches "xposed" Prudence Present
As one chapter ends and another begins, we recently piloted our new high school program on 4 March with a group of Grade 12’s in the southern suburbs. We went in with great excitement and loved every moment as we introduced the class of 2021 to our “Xposed” program. Both the staff and learners of Sibelius High, in Steenberg, received us well and upon reflection, we learned that they are ready to make this year a remarkable one, with lasting impact. We too want to wish them well as they pioneer in different ways - not letting circumstances steer them but rather being driven by their persevering and "gogetter" attitude. Here is to a year of unlimited opportunities and possibilities.
