Youth Month 2021 SA's 2021 Youth Month Key messages

Youth have a vital role in fighting the spread of COVID-19.

Young people are key to rebuilding and transforming our economy.

While these messages are very promising, it is the implementation thereof that is always questionable. According to the government, many opportunities for youth are created whether through organisations, companies, schools, or tertiary institutions.

We are broadening the frontiers of opportunity for our young people.

The government is creating opportunities for young people who want to be entrepreneurs.

IAMPASSION is one such opportunity that help youth discover who they are and what they capable of, develop themselves through personal and skills development, and then deploy them to position themselves in society.

Empower yourself by obtaining and developing the right skill set required by the economy.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Our new course aims to increase mental wellness among students

The mental wellness classes have made me aware of how many people are uninformed and merely accept their reality. The 'thought life' of the young people I was exposed to is one of constant worry or fear, they cannot see a way out of their current circumstances.

It now affects everything they do so as an adult, you are always late and you do not value being on time; but what if you intentionally changed to being punctual - because you are no longer a student, but an adult and the opportunity is greater, so is the responsibility. At school you got detention, in life you could lose your job or miss an opportunity. Our class has allowed them to learn how to view their circumstance differently and how to manifest their thoughts into positive change. An example being, as a student, coming late may not be a problem for them.

They then approach everything in life with the thought that every situation they find themselves in, they have no way out. The only way they then cope is by not facing anything.

Megan-Anne Press

Our classes are not aimed to counsel but to renew thinking and discover that we are more resilient than we think we are.

A POWERFUL CATALYST FOR HAPpINESS Our gratitude campaign

I think many can agree that 2020 was the most unexpected year, filled with the most unlikely events. With 2022 fast approaching (only 5 months away), here is a quick reminder of things we all can be thankful for amidst the unpredictability we are currently facing:

The good health of our families: So many have been overcome with Covid19 – if anything, with the resurgence of the virus, the good health of our families is definitely an underrated blessing.

The opportunity to work or have a job – with the current climate of layoffs, the ability to work; no matter how small the task, especially in health care – being able to save lives – in this time is incredibly rewarding.

Teamwork: Dreaded by many, as it often causes so much strain (especially when you have to overextend yourself). However, during this pandemic, I know teamwork has lightened the load of so many including myself – two heads proved to be better than one.

A POWERFUL CATALYST FOR HAPpINESS Our gratitude campaign

The Faculty & Collective Successes of The Coronavirus pandemic: The success of not only the WHO but also various medical facilities and sites equipping us with the correct information. I know during this time we have been overloaded with misinformation. These sites truly allowed for peace of mind during uncertain times. If you have not yet, it is never too late to check them out as soon as possible.

Charline King

Finally, the support, presence and engagement of family and friends: Do not be surprised by how the support of close family and friends can lessen the load or weight of anxiety during these peculiar times – even if communication is only through virtual means, support of both friends and family is proven to make it easier for many.

Focus on your strenghts, not your weaknesses

Focus on your character, not your reputation

Focus on your blessings, not your misfortunes

student of the month Elston Stanley

He has shown great commitment and consistency over the past month. Come rain or shine, he was always eager to learn and attend cĺass. He displayed high levels of accountability to his growth and always communicated if he was not able to make a class, which was very rare.

We chose Elston as the student of the month as he has grown immensely over this past month. When he first joined our courses at the Youth Cafe, he did not have much self-confidence but that quickly changed as he began to become more engaged in classes he participates in every class.

Marco Williams

Elston has developed an attitude of learning and is always ready to apply what he learns. It is for this reason that we deem Elston our student of the month.

Wishes of Youth Day 2021

“THE GREATEST SIN IS TO THINK THAT YOU ARE WEAK”

“CONQUER YOURSELF AND THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS YOURS.”

“LEARN EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD FROM OTHERS, BUT BRING IT IN, AND IN YOUR OWN WAY ADSORB IT; DO NOT BECOME OTHERS.” “YOU SHOULD WORK LIKE A MASTER AND NOT AS A SLAVE; WORK INCESSANTLY, BUT DO NOT DO A SLAVE’S WORK.”

“HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF — ALL POWER IS IN YOU. EVEN THE POISON OF A SNAKE IS POWERLESS, IF YOU CAN FIRMLY DENY IT.”
